Coinepay supports transfers from Germany to India. You can prepare the recipient’s details, choose an available payout method, review the exchange rate and fees before confirming, and track the transfer in your account. This guide explains what to collect for an Indian bank deposit, a UPI-linked payout or cash pickup.
What you need before sending
Register for a Coinepay account and complete identity verification before starting your transfer. Use your real identity and accurate payment information. Coinepay may request documents about your source of funds or the purpose of the transfer, so have a clear, truthful explanation ready.
Ask the recipient for their full legal name as it appears on their bank account or identity document. You will also need the details for the payout method you select. Confirm them directly with the recipient rather than copying details from an old transfer: a changed bank account, UPI ID or pickup location can affect delivery.
- Bank deposit: Get the recipient’s Indian bank account number and IFSC, along with their full legal name. Ask for the bank’s name if the transfer form requests it.
- UPI-linked payout: If UPI is offered for your transfer, ask for the recipient’s active UPI ID and the name associated with it. The recipient should check that their bank account and UPI app support incoming international remittances.
- Cash pickup: Get the recipient’s name exactly as shown on the identity document they will present. Confirm the pickup details and identification requirements shown during the transfer.
India’s local currency is the Indian rupee (INR). Check the currency and payout details displayed for your specific transfer before you confirm it.
Choose the right payout details for India
Indian bank deposit: account number and IFSC
For a local INR bank deposit, the key identifiers are normally the recipient’s Indian account number and IFSC. An IFSC identifies a bank branch. It has 11 characters: four letters for the bank, a zero as the fifth character, and six characters identifying the branch. Ask the recipient to copy both the account number and IFSC from their bank’s current records, then check the name for spelling differences.
Do not look for an Indian IBAN: India does not have a registered national IBAN format. An IBAN from the sender’s German account is not a substitute for the recipient’s Indian account number. Likewise, a US routing number or a CLABE is not an Indian local bank-payout identifier.
If a transfer form instead calls for a SWIFT/BIC, follow the receiving bank’s own international-wire instructions. A direct SWIFT wire can require the bank’s SWIFT/BIC, beneficiary account information and, where specified, intermediary-bank details. These instructions are distinct from the account number and IFSC normally used for a local INR deposit. Provide the details requested for the payout route shown in Coinepay rather than adding unrelated codes.
UPI-linked payout
UPI may appear as a local delivery option. A recipient might use a UPI app such as PhonePe, Google Pay or Paytm, but the relevant detail is their eligible UPI ID, not an assumption that money will be deposited into an app’s standalone wallet balance. Supported foreign-inward UPI remittances credit a UPI-linked bank account, and not every bank or UPI app supports them. Ask the recipient to confirm their UPI ID and incoming-remittance eligibility; use the option only if it is available in your Coinepay transfer flow.
Cash pickup
If cash pickup is offered, choose an available pickup option shown for the transfer and make sure the recipient can reach it. Share the transfer or collection reference only through a trusted channel after Coinepay provides it. The recipient should bring the required identification and follow the pickup instructions displayed for that transfer. Their name on the transfer must match their identification. Cash pickup is subject to the applicable local payout rules and checks; review the option presented before confirming.
How to send the transfer
- Sign in to Coinepay. Use the self-service dashboard or the mobile app for iOS or Android. Make sure your account verification is complete.
- Start a cross-border transfer. Select India as the destination, enter the amount, and choose the sending and receiving currencies available for your transfer. Check that the receiving currency shown is the one the recipient expects, such as INR for a local rupee payout.
- Select the payout method. Choose from the methods displayed for this transfer, such as bank deposit, UPI-linked delivery or cash pickup. Availability can depend on the transfer and recipient details.
- Enter recipient information. Use the recipient’s full legal name and the requested account number and IFSC, UPI ID, or cash-pickup information. If Coinepay requests a payment purpose, state the genuine reason for sending.
- Review before confirming. Check the recipient’s name, destination, payout method, currency and details. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm. Read the displayed transfer summary so you know what you are authorising.
- Confirm and track. Confirm the transfer only when the information is correct. Follow its status in the Coinepay dashboard or app, and keep the transfer reference for any support request.
Recipient-side checks and payment purpose
Ask the recipient to check whether their bank or UPI-linked account can receive the selected type of inward remittance and whether it needs any additional information. Receipts involving an Indian resident and a non-resident are subject to Indian foreign-exchange rules and generally pass through an authorised bank or authorised person. A receiving institution may ask the recipient to clarify the payment’s purpose before making funds available.
Describe the purpose accurately. For example, Indian reporting distinguishes family maintenance or savings from a personal gift or donation; a business payment should not be described as a personal gift. If you are paying an organisation regulated under India’s foreign-contribution rules, ask that organisation for its compliant receiving instructions before sending. Do not substitute a personal recipient or an unrelated account for a required organisational account.
German reporting obligations can also apply to certain cross-border payments. If you are unsure whether you need to report a payment, check the current Bundesbank rules or seek qualified advice. Reporting is separate from the recipient details you enter in Coinepay.
Troubleshooting a transfer to India
- Wrong recipient details: If you notice an incorrect name, account number, IFSC or UPI ID after confirmation, check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the reference. Do not assume a confirmed transfer can be edited or recalled. An Indian bank may reject and return a payment whose beneficiary details do not match.
- Compliance review: Identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations apply to transfers. If Coinepay requests information about the payment purpose, source of funds or recipient, provide accurate documents through its instructed channel. An incomplete or incorrect purpose can also delay or prevent an Indian payout.
- Unexpected delay: Check the tracked status before asking the recipient to investigate with their bank or pickup provider. Bank processing schedules, weekends and public holidays can affect a transfer. If the status is unclear, give Coinepay support the reference and ask what action, if any, is needed.
- Returned transfer: Review the stated reason, if one is available, and verify the recipient’s details with them before making another transfer. Contact support about the return’s status rather than sending a duplicate while the original remains unresolved.
Coinepay screens customers and counterparties against sanctions lists. Transfers are not available to sanctioned persons or to jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions. Always complete requested checks and use the payout route offered for your actual recipient.

FAQ
Does an Indian recipient need an IBAN?
No. India has no registered national IBAN format. For a local INR bank deposit, ask for the recipient’s account number and IFSC.
Can I send to a UPI app in India?
Choose UPI if it appears for your transfer. Ask the recipient for an eligible UPI ID; supported inward UPI remittances credit a linked bank account, not necessarily an app wallet balance.
What does a cash-pickup recipient need?
They need the required identification, a name that matches the transfer, and any collection reference or instructions provided for the selected pickup option.
Where can I see the exchange rate and fees?
Coinepay displays the exchange rate and fees for your transfer before you confirm it. Review the full transfer summary before authorising payment.
What should I do if I entered the wrong IFSC?
Check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with your transfer reference. Do not assume a confirmed transfer can be changed.
