Looking to pay for Xbox Live Gold? It is no longer sold under that name. Gold became Xbox Game Pass Core in 2023, and Microsoft’s current subscription terms call that plan Xbox Game Pass Essential. This guide explains how to choose a current plan, enter a Coinepay virtual card at checkout, and investigate a declined payment.
Choose the right Xbox Game Pass plan
If your main reason for buying Gold was online console multiplayer, start by comparing Essential with the other current plans. Benefits, offers and availability can vary by country, so check the regional Xbox Game Pass page before you subscribe.
- Xbox Game Pass Essential: Includes online console multiplayer and access to 50+ console and PC games.
- Xbox Game Pass Premium: Includes online console multiplayer and access to 200+ games. The former Xbox Game Pass Standard is now Premium.
- Xbox Game Pass Ultimate: Includes multiplayer, select day-one releases and other subscription benefits.
- PC Game Pass: Is intended for PC gaming and does not include cloud gaming. Do not choose it solely for online console multiplayer.
At the time of writing (October 2026), the regular monthly US prices shown by Xbox were US$9.99 for Essential, US$14.99 for Premium, US$22.99 for Ultimate and US$13.99 for PC Game Pass. These are not introductory prices. Taxes and account-specific offers can change the checkout total; check the official Xbox Game Pass pricing page for the price in your region before confirming.
What you need before checkout
- An eligible Microsoft account: Sign in with the account on which you want the subscription. Check Xbox’s country-and-product-specific availability list: having an Xbox account or console does not mean every Game Pass plan is sold in your country.
- A Coinepay account and virtual card: Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. Once issued, your virtual card’s number, expiry date and CVV are available instantly in the Coinepay app or self-service dashboard.
- Enough available funds: Check the card’s available balance against the full amount shown at checkout, including applicable taxes. Consult the Coinepay app or contact support for any card funding details you need.
- Your real billing information: Have the billing name and address associated with your payment details ready. Do not substitute an address from another country to try to access a regional offer.
Payment choices differ by region and may also differ between an account’s Payment options page and a particular subscription checkout. An introductory offer may require a credit card. If the offer states a card-type requirement, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets it before you buy; do not assume a virtual card qualifies.
How to subscribe and pay with your Coinepay card
- Open the Xbox Game Pass page for your country. Find Essential if you want the current successor to Gold, or compare Premium and Ultimate if you want their additional benefits. You can also start from the plan’s Microsoft Store listing.
- Select the plan and choose Join. Sign in to the Microsoft account that should hold the subscription. If you have more than one account, check the displayed account before proceeding.
- Review the offer. Check the plan name, regional availability, price, taxes, introductory-offer conditions and recurring-billing terms. An introductory offer may convert to recurring billing at the then-current regular price plus applicable taxes unless you cancel.
- Select or add a payment method. If the checkout offers a suitable card-entry option, retrieve your virtual card number, expiry date and CVV from Coinepay. Enter them carefully, along with your real billing details. Follow any verification request that appears during payment.
- Confirm only after checking the total. Review the final order details and submit the purchase. A card being available for entry does not guarantee that Microsoft will accept the transaction.
- Check your subscription. Sign in at account.microsoft.com/services and look under Services & subscriptions for the plan, billing date and management options. If checkout did not complete, check whether a subscription appears before trying again.
You can manage your Coinepay card through its 24/7 dashboard or the mobile app for iOS and Android. Microsoft, rather than Coinepay, controls Game Pass enrollment, subscription terms and whether a payment is accepted.
Why was my card declined?
A decline can occur when adding a card or at the final subscription payment. Start with the message Microsoft displays; it may not identify the precise cause. For example, some users have reported “Check the info you entered. It doesn’t match the info for this card” when adding a card. That message alone does not prove which detail caused your attempt to fail.
Insufficient balance or an account issue
Compare the available card balance with the final checkout total, not just the advertised monthly price. Taxes can affect the amount due. Also check your Microsoft account for an overdue subscription payment or suspension: Microsoft notes that an overdue payment can block another purchase. Resolve an account issue with Microsoft before retrying.
Card details or billing address do not match
Re-enter the number, expiry date and CVV exactly as displayed in Coinepay. Check that the card is still valid and review the billing name and address you entered in your Microsoft account or at checkout. Use your real details; changing them to resemble another country’s details can create further problems and does not make you eligible for that country’s offers.
Verification or 3-D Secure does not complete
If checkout requests bank verification or a 3-D Secure authentication step, complete the prompt presented for that transaction. An incomplete, timed-out or blocked verification can prevent payment. If you cannot complete the prompt or do not receive the expected verification step, check the card’s status in Coinepay and ask Coinepay support what happened to the attempted payment. If Microsoft reports a checkout error, contact Microsoft support as well. Do not repeatedly submit the same payment without checking its status.
Merchant region or offer checks
Xbox Game Pass plans and cloud-gaming support are country-dependent. Make sure your Microsoft account, the offer you selected and your genuine billing details are appropriate for your location. Some promotions have additional eligibility rules, including a possible credit-card requirement. Check the terms shown for your offer and contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets any stated card-type requirement before purchasing. A virtual card cannot bypass Microsoft’s regional or payment checks.
If those checks do not resolve the decline, ask Coinepay support to review the card-side attempt and Microsoft support to review any account or merchant-side restriction. Share the displayed error and the time of the attempt, but never send your full card number or CVV in an ordinary support message.
Change your payment method or stop renewal
To update payment on a Microsoft-billed subscription, sign in at account.microsoft.com/services → Services & subscriptions → Manage → Change how you pay. You can add a new method on your Microsoft account’s Payment options page. The methods available there, including cards and other regional options, may not all be offered at a specific Game Pass checkout.
To avoid the next recurring charge, cancel or turn off recurring billing through account.microsoft.com/services or an Xbox console before the next billing date. Microsoft’s Xbox terms generally allow a refund when you cancel within 30 days of the initial purchase, unless the offer was identified as non-refundable; statutory rights are unaffected. For a recurring charge, the Xbox Game Pass FAQ says you can request a refund of the most recent charge if you cancel within 30 days, once per Microsoft account per subscription product. Review the terms that apply to your purchase. If another seller billed your subscription, contact that seller about billing, cancellation and refunds.

Essential, Premium and Ultimate include online console multiplayer. Check the Xbox Game Pass page for the benefits and availability in your country.
Will an introductory Game Pass offer accept my Coinepay virtual card?
Offer rules vary. If an offer requires a credit card or specifies another card-type restriction, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets it before buying. Acceptance is not guaranteed.
Where do I change the card used for my subscription?
For a Microsoft-billed subscription, go to account.microsoft.com/services, then Services & subscriptions → Manage → Change how you pay.
