Looking for ChatGPT Team? OpenAI renamed it ChatGPT Business in August 2025. Existing Team workspaces did not need a new subscription. This guide explains how to prepare a Coinepay virtual card, sign up for a Business workspace, pay for seats, and check common reasons a card payment might be declined.

Before you start

You will need an OpenAI account, a location where ChatGPT is supported, and at least two paid Business seats. Business offers Standard and Premium seats; the two-seat minimum can be met with either type or a combination. Decide who needs each seat before checkout, because unassigned paid seats are still billed.

OpenAI says purchases require both a supported location and a card issued by a bank in a supported region. Check OpenAI’s ChatGPT Supported Countries page before buying. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the card-issuance requirement before you buy. A virtual card does not override OpenAI’s location or payment checks. Use your real identity and accurate billing details.

To use Coinepay card services, register and complete identity verification first. You can manage your card through the 24/7 self-service dashboard or the Coinepay mobile app, available for iOS and Android. Once a card is issued, its number, expiry date and CVV are available for you to enter at checkout. Check the app for your available funds and any card details you need; do not assume that creating a card also funds it.

Choose seats and review the cost

At the time of writing (October 2026), OpenAI lists these United States prices for ChatGPT Business. They are per paid seat, and your actual checkout total depends on the seats and billing period you choose.

Seat typeMonthly billingAnnual billing
StandardUS$25 per seat/monthUS$20 per seat/month, billed annually
PremiumUS$125 per seat/monthUS$100 per seat/month, billed annually

Check OpenAI’s official Business pricing page and the checkout total for current prices in your region; do not convert the US figures to estimate a local charge. Select monthly or annual billing deliberately, particularly if you are buying multiple seats. ChatGPT Enterprise is a separate, sales-contracted plan rather than a self-serve Business seat option.

Self-serve Business accepts credit and debit cards. Eligible workspace-wallet funds may cover eligible charges, but a payment method is needed for any remainder. OpenAI does not offer invoice billing, purchase orders, bank transfer, wire, ACH or net terms for self-serve Business. If your organization needs invoicing, discuss a contracted plan with OpenAI Sales instead of expecting that option at card checkout.

How to subscribe with your Coinepay virtual card

  1. Prepare your card. Sign in to the Coinepay dashboard or app and make sure you have completed identity verification. Locate your virtual card’s number, expiry date and CVV. Review its available funds against the total you expect to pay, allowing for the actual amount shown at checkout.
  2. Open Business signup. In a browser, go to OpenAI’s ChatGPT Business signup and sign in to your OpenAI account. Choose Business if prompted. If you previously knew the product as ChatGPT Team, look for its new Business name.
  3. Set up the workspace purchase. Select your Standard and Premium seats, with at least two paid seats in total, then choose monthly or annual billing. Review the seat counts carefully; an empty seat can still result in a charge.
  4. Review checkout. Read the billing currency, payment details and full amount OpenAI displays. Check that the plan and billing period match your decision. Enter the Coinepay virtual card information and your genuine billing details in the payment form.
  5. Complete any payment verification. If an authentication prompt appears, follow the instructions shown by the checkout and the card service. Keep the checkout open until you see whether the payment succeeds; do not repeatedly submit it while a verification step is pending.
  6. Confirm the workspace. After successful checkout, check that the Business workspace is active, then invite members to the seats you purchased. A workspace owner can later review invoices, billing details and payment methods under Workspace settings → Billing.

Personal ChatGPT subscriptions and API usage have separate billing settings. If you cannot find a Business charge or payment method, first confirm that you are in the correct workspace and viewing its Billing page, rather than your personal account settings.

If the card is declined

A decline does not always identify its cause. OpenAI documents messages such as “authentication required,” “card may be invalid or authentication may be needed,” and “3D Secure attempt failed.” Work through the relevant checks below before trying checkout again.

Insufficient funds or a different checkout total

Compare the available funds shown in Coinepay with OpenAI’s final checkout total, not just a per-seat monthly price. Two or more seats, Premium seats, annual billing, or an additional seat added later can change the amount due. If the amount exceeds the funds available for the card, resolve that in the Coinepay app before retrying. For a later seat addition, remember that OpenAI charges an immediate prorated amount.

Card details or billing address mismatch

Re-enter the card number, expiry date and CVV carefully, and check your billing name and address for typing errors. Use your real billing details; changing an address to another country to force acceptance can cause further payment or account problems. If you recently updated billing information, review what appears at checkout and, for an existing workspace, under Workspace settings → Billing.

3-D Secure or another authentication step

If checkout says “authentication required” or “3D Secure attempt failed,” complete the verification request rather than closing it or repeatedly starting new attempts. If no prompt appears, it expires, or you cannot complete it, check your card activity and contact Coinepay support for help investigating the attempted payment. OpenAI also identifies issuer blocks on online or international payments as possible causes of a decline.

Merchant region checks

OpenAI requires a supported purchase location and a card issued by a bank in a supported region. If either requirement is not met, adding funds or correcting an address may not fix the decline. Check OpenAI’s current supported-country information and contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets the card-issuance requirement. Do not attempt to bypass a regional restriction; OpenAI warns that access from unsupported regions may result in account blocking or suspension.

If the payment still fails, note the exact error text, the attempted amount and time, and whether an authentication prompt appeared. Share relevant details with Coinepay support, without sending your full card number or CVV in a message. OpenAI support can help investigate what its checkout displayed, although a decline may not come with a detailed reason.

Manage your Business subscription after checkout

A workspace owner manages Business invoices, billing details and payment methods at Workspace settings → Billing. Review that page before adding or removing seats: added seats incur an immediate prorated charge, while reductions take effect at the next billing cycle. Removing a member is not the same as eliminating the cost of an unassigned paid seat, so check the paid seat count as well.

To stop renewal, a workspace owner goes to Workspace settings → Billing → Manage plan → Cancel subscription. OpenAI says to cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing date to avoid the next charge. Cancellation normally leaves access through the paid period; it does not automatically refund earlier payments. Committed Business seats, including unused seats, are generally non-refundable, subject to applicable law or an approved exception. For a charge you believe is incorrect, ask OpenAI for a review through its Help Center chat and provide your workspace and invoice details.
