Coinepay Global Remittance supports transfers to Nigeria. You can start a transfer from the Coinepay app or self-service dashboard, review the exchange rate and fees before confirming, and track its status afterward. This guide explains what to collect from your recipient and how to choose an available payout method.
What you need before sending
Register for a Coinepay account and complete identity verification before starting a transfer. Have your recipient’s full legal name exactly as it appears on their bank, wallet or identification records. Ask them to confirm their payout details directly rather than relying on details from an old transfer.
Nigeria’s local currency is the Nigerian naira (NGN). Select Nigeria as the destination, then check which receiving currencies and payout methods the app offers for your transfer. You may also need to provide information about your relationship to the recipient, the purpose of the payment or the source of funds. Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations; Coinepay may request supporting documents.
Choose a payout method in Nigeria
Coinepay supports bank deposit, mobile wallet and cash pickup payouts across its remittance service. The options available for a particular Nigeria transfer are the ones shown in the app. Confirm the recipient can use your chosen option before you enter their details.
Bank deposit
For a naira deposit to a Nigerian bank account, ask for the recipient’s full account name, their 10-digit account number and the name of their bank. Nigerian domestic accounts use the 10-digit NUBAN format; the transfer form may also ask you to select the bank or enter its local bank code. Copy the details from the recipient’s bank information and check every digit.
Do not assume a Nigerian recipient needs an IBAN. Nigeria does not have a registered national IBAN format. If the available transfer route calls for an international bank wire instead of a local naira deposit, ask the receiving bank for its current instructions. Those may include the beneficiary’s account details, the receiving bank’s SWIFT/BIC, an address and currency-specific intermediary-bank details. An IBAN in those instructions may identify an overseas intermediary bank, not the recipient’s Nigerian account. Enter each code only in the field it belongs to; IFSC and CLABE are not Nigerian recipient-account codes.
The recipient should confirm that their account is active and able to receive the proposed payment. Nigerian account requirements can depend on the account and its verification status, so the recipient should resolve any account restrictions with their bank before you send.
Mobile wallet
If mobile wallet is offered for your Nigeria transfer, choose the wallet provider displayed in Coinepay and enter the identifying details requested by the app. OPay and Paga Money are examples of Nigerian mobile wallets; their appearance here does not mean either will be offered on every Coinepay route. Ask the recipient to confirm their registered wallet name and phone number, and make sure the wallet is active and eligible to receive the payment.
A wallet’s verification status can affect its ability to receive funds. Nigerian rules require individual Tier-1 accounts and wallets to have a Bank Verification Number (BVN) or National Identification Number (NIN), and Tier-2 and Tier-3 accounts and wallets to have both. If the recipient is unsure whether their wallet is ready, they should check with their wallet provider before you confirm the transfer.
Cash pickup
If cash pickup appears as an option, select the available pickup location or provider as directed in the app. Give the recipient’s legal name exactly as shown on the identification they will present. Once the transfer is ready for collection, share any pickup reference and instructions supplied for that transfer with the intended recipient only. They should bring acceptable identification and follow the pickup provider’s instructions.
Nigerian rules for inbound international money transfer operator (IMTO) payouts provide for naira payment through an account or as cash, subject to the applicable receiving rules. Cash pickup may not be available for every transfer. Check the options presented before confirming rather than assuming the recipient can collect cash.
How to send money to Nigeria step by step
- Sign in to Coinepay. Use your verified account in the Coinepay dashboard or the iOS app or Android app. If you are new, register and complete identity verification first.
- Start a remittance and select Nigeria. Choose the currency you will send and the receiving currency offered for the route. If the recipient needs naira, check that the receiving selection is NGN.
- Choose the payout method. Select an available bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash pickup option. Enter the recipient’s full legal name and the details requested for that method. For a local bank deposit, check the 10-digit account number and bank selection carefully; for a wallet, verify the registered wallet details.
- Review the transfer. Check the recipient, destination, payout method, amount, receiving currency, exchange rate and fees shown in Coinepay before you confirm. Read any route-specific instructions or document requests. If something is wrong, correct it before proceeding.
- Confirm and track. Confirm the transfer only when the details are accurate. Use the transfer’s status tracking in the app or dashboard to follow its progress, and keep the transfer reference in case you need help.
What the recipient should expect
For a bank deposit, the recipient should monitor the account they provided and ask their bank about an incoming payment if the transfer status calls for follow-up. A receiving bank may process the credit after funds reach it. For a wallet payout, the recipient should check the registered wallet and any notices from its provider. For cash pickup, they should wait for the pickup instructions and take the required identification to the specified location.
Details that appear in a bank’s international wire instructions can differ from those used for a domestic naira deposit. Have the recipient confirm which set of instructions applies to the route shown in Coinepay. Do not substitute an intermediary bank’s account or code for the recipient’s own account details.
Troubleshooting a Nigeria transfer
- Wrong recipient details: If you notice an incorrect name, account number, bank, wallet number or pickup detail after confirming, contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer reference. Do not assume a submitted transfer can be changed or recalled. Incorrect details can delay payment or result in a return.
- Compliance review: Check the transfer status and respond to any request for identity, purpose-of-payment or source-of-funds documents. All customers and counterparties are screened against sanctions lists, and transfers must comply with applicable local rules.
- Transfer taking longer than expected: Check whether the app shows an action you need to take. Weekends, holidays, conversion, intermediary-bank handling and the receiving institution’s processing can affect progress. For a wallet, ask the recipient to confirm it remains active and eligible.
- Returned transfer: Review the return notice and confirm the recipient’s details and eligibility before starting another transfer. Ask support about the status of the original transfer if the reason is unclear.
Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions. If you are unsure which details or payout options apply to your Nigeria transfer, check the app before confirming or contact Coinepay support.
