You can send money to Italy with Coinepay Global Remittance. Before you start, ask your recipient how they want to receive the money and collect the details for that payout method. This guide explains what an Italian bank transfer needs, how to review your transfer before confirming it, and what to do if its status changes or the payment is returned.

What you need before sending money to Italy

You need a Coinepay account with the required identity verification completed. In the Coinepay app or self-service dashboard, prepare the amount you want to send, the recipient’s full legal name and their payout details. Use the recipient’s real information exactly as supplied; a shortened name or an account number copied from the wrong account can cause a transfer to be held or returned.

Italy uses the euro (EUR). Select Italy as the destination, then check the currencies and payout methods offered for your transfer in Coinepay. Coinepay supports cross-border transfers to Italy, but the available options for a particular transfer are the ones shown in the app or dashboard. If you are unsure which details a receiving institution requires, ask the recipient to confirm them with that institution before you pay.

Choose how your recipient will receive the money

Bank account deposit

For an Italian bank account deposit, ask for the account holder’s full legal name and IBAN. An Italian IBAN has 27 characters and starts with IT. It contains the Italian bank code, called ABI, and branch code, called CAB, as well as the account number. Ask the recipient to copy the complete IBAN from their account details rather than assembling it from those components. IFSC, CLABE and US routing numbers are not parts of an Italian IBAN.

The recipient may also need to give you their bank’s SWIFT/BIC and any additional receiving instructions, particularly if those fields appear for the international transfer route shown in Coinepay. For a SEPA transfer, the IBAN is the account identifier the sender needs; a BIC is not required from the sender. Do not assume your Coinepay transfer uses a particular route: follow the fields displayed for your transaction. If prompted, enter a truthful payment reference or reason for the transfer so the recipient can identify it.

Ask the recipient to confirm that their account can receive the proposed payment. In Italy, an eligible payment account may be held with a bank or another financial institution. For example, Postepay Evolution has an IBAN that can receive transfers, but whether a particular cross-border payment can reach it depends on the receiving product and transfer route. The account provider can clarify its receiving requirements.

Mobile wallet

Coinepay supports mobile-wallet payouts on eligible routes, but do not assume a mobile wallet is available for Italy. There is no confirmed list of Italian mobile wallets for this guide. Check the payout choices shown after you select Italy in the app or dashboard. If a wallet option appears, ask the recipient to confirm the exact wallet name, their registered legal name and the wallet identifier requested on screen. They should also check that their wallet is active and able to receive that type of transfer. If no wallet option appears, choose another available payout method rather than entering wallet details as bank details.

Cash pickup

If cash pickup is offered for your Italy transfer, select it and follow the location and recipient-detail prompts shown in Coinepay. The recipient will generally need the transfer details or tracking reference and valid identification when collecting funds. Their ID name should match the recipient name you enter. Before sending, confirm that the recipient can reach an available pickup location and ask them to check its identification and collection requirements. Availability and the information needed at collection can depend on the payout partner.

How to send money to Italy step by step

  1. Sign in to your verified account. Open the Coinepay mobile app or 24/7 self-service dashboard. If you have not registered or completed identity verification, do that before starting a transfer.
  2. Start a Global Remittance transfer. Choose Italy as the destination. Enter the amount and select the sending and receiving currencies offered for your route; Italy’s local currency is EUR.
  3. Select the payout method. Choose an available bank deposit, cash pickup or mobile-wallet option, if one is displayed for Italy. The fields you must complete depend on that choice.
  4. Enter the recipient’s details. Use their full legal name. For bank deposit, enter their full Italian IBAN and any bank code, SWIFT/BIC or other information requested for the route. For other methods, follow the specific identifier or pickup prompts. Add an accurate payment purpose or reference if requested.
  5. Review before confirming. Check the recipient name, destination, payout method, account or pickup details and amount. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm the transfer. Review what the recipient is expected to receive and correct any mistakes before proceeding.
  6. Confirm and track. Confirm only when the details are correct. Then use the transfer’s status tracking in the Coinepay app or dashboard. Keep its reference handy if you or the recipient need help.

If a requested field is unfamiliar, pause and ask the recipient or their receiving institution. Guessing an ABI, CAB or SWIFT/BIC is not a substitute for the institution’s actual instructions. Likewise, do not enter another person’s account or wallet details merely because they appear easier to use.

What the recipient should check in Italy

For a bank deposit, the recipient should verify the IBAN and account-holder name before sharing them, then check the relevant account for the incoming payment. They can ask their bank or account provider whether it needs a specific payment reference or further information for an international receipt. A cash-pickup recipient should retain the collection details you share with them and bring valid identification. A wallet recipient, if that option is offered, should confirm the registered details required by the wallet provider.

Receiving money can also raise questions about the purpose of a payment. Keep a clear record of why it was sent, such as family support or payment for an invoice, and provide accurate information if a provider requests it. Italian intermediaries have reporting duties for certain covered cross-border transactions; that is not, by itself, a fee or an automatic tax charged to the recipient. A recipient who needs advice on their own tax or reporting position should consult a qualified local adviser.

Troubleshooting an Italy transfer

  • Wrong name, IBAN or other recipient detail: If you have not confirmed the transfer, correct it on the review screen. If you have confirmed it, check its status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer reference. Do not assume submitted details can be changed or that the payment can be stopped. An incorrect account detail may lead the receiving institution to return the transfer.
  • Compliance review: Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay or a participating institution may ask for documents explaining the payment purpose, recipient relationship or source of funds. Supply accurate information through the requested channel. Missing payer or payee information can result in further questions or rejection.
  • Status has not updated as expected: Check the status in your app or dashboard before sending another payment. Receiving institutions, weekends, public holidays and international processing can affect progress. If you need an update, share the transfer reference with support; the recipient can also check with their receiving institution when appropriate.
  • Transfer returned: Review the status and any explanation provided. Ask the recipient to verify their legal name, complete IBAN and any required receiving-bank instructions before attempting another transfer. Contact support if the reason is unclear. Wait for guidance rather than repeatedly submitting the same incorrect details.

Send with accurate details

Coinepay Global Remittance supports transfers to Italy through the payout options available for your route. The simplest preparation is to confirm the recipient’s preferred method, copy their details directly from a reliable account or provider record, and review the displayed exchange rate and fees before confirming. You can register for Coinepay if you need an account, or contact support if a required payout detail or transfer status is unclear. Transfers cannot be made to sanctioned persons or jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions, and all transfers remain subject to applicable checks.

FAQ

What bank details do I need to send money to Italy?

Ask for the recipient’s full legal name and complete Italian IBAN. Provide the receiving bank’s SWIFT/BIC or other instructions if the transfer route requests them.

Do I need an ABI or CAB code separately?

An Italian IBAN includes the ABI bank code and CAB branch code. Use the recipient’s complete IBAN and fill in separate code fields only if Coinepay requests them.

Can I send money to an Italian mobile wallet?

Check the payout methods displayed for Italy in Coinepay. Do not assume a particular Italian wallet is supported; if a wallet option appears, use the recipient details requested on screen.

What should I do if I entered the wrong IBAN?

Correct it before confirming if possible. If you already confirmed, check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer reference.

How can I check the exchange rate and transfer fees?

Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm a transfer. Review them alongside the recipient and payout details on the confirmation screen.
