Coinepay Global Remittance lets you send money to Cambodia from your verified account, choosing bank deposit, a local mobile wallet or cash pickup. This guide walks through what you need before you start, how to complete the transfer step by step, and what to do if something goes wrong. Coinepay supports transfers to Cambodia, and the exchange rate and fees are always shown clearly in the app before you confirm.

Before you start

To send a cross-border transfer with Coinepay you need a registered account that has completed identity verification (KYC). If you have not done this yet, create your account and finish verification first. You can manage everything from the Coinepay iOS app, the Android app or the web dashboard, available 24/7.

Every transfer is subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay screens all customers and counterparties against sanctions lists, and may ask for supporting documents such as the purpose of the transfer or the source of funds. Collecting your recipient's details accurately before you begin helps avoid delays.

The currency in Cambodia

Cambodia's national currency is the Khmer riel (KHR), but US dollars (USD) are also widely used for everyday payments. When you set up your transfer, check with your recipient which currency they want to receive, since many Cambodian accounts and services handle both. Coinepay shows the rate and any fees for your chosen currency before you confirm.

What you need from your recipient

The exact details depend on the payout method you pick. In all cases you will need the recipient's full legal name exactly as it appears on their bank account or government ID, because a name that does not match the account holder can cause the transfer to be rejected.

Bank deposit

For a deposit to a Cambodian bank account, you typically need:

  • The recipient's full name and address
  • Their bank account number — note that at ABA Bank, for example, an incoming international transfer uses the 9-digit account number, not the 16-digit payment-card number. Always use the account number the bank specifies, not a card number.
  • The receiving bank's name and address
  • The bank's SWIFT/BIC code — ABA Bank's code is ABAAKHPP; recipients at other banks must obtain their own bank's code.

Cambodia does not have a national IBAN format listed in the SWIFT IBAN Registry, so do not try to construct an IBAN. Use the account number the recipient's bank provides. Some banks may also need a payment purpose or, for certain currencies, a correspondent bank — ask the recipient to confirm their bank's own instructions before you send.

Mobile wallet

Mobile-wallet receipt is popular in Cambodia and availability depends on the corridor. Wing Bank, for instance, describes receiving a partner transfer through its app using a Code to Wing function. For a wallet payout you will generally need the recipient's registered name and the mobile number or wallet details linked to their account. Confirm in the Coinepay app which wallets are available for your transfer at the time you send.

Cash pickup

Cash pickup lets your recipient collect funds at a participating agent location, such as Wing agents. For this method your recipient usually needs:

  • Valid government-issued identification
  • A recipient name that matches the one on the transfer exactly
  • A phone number
  • The pickup/reference code you share with them after sending

Step-by-step: sending the transfer

  1. Open Coinepay and start a transfer. In the app or dashboard, go to Global Remittance and choose to send money.
  2. Choose Cambodia as the destination and select the payout method — bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash pickup.
  3. Select the currency (KHR or USD, depending on what your recipient needs) and enter the amount.
  4. Enter the recipient's details for your chosen method, taking care to type the full legal name and account or wallet details exactly as provided.
  5. Review the exchange rate and fees. Coinepay displays the rate and all fees on screen before you confirm — check the amount your recipient will receive and the details you entered.
  6. Confirm the transfer. If Coinepay requests documents such as the purpose or source of funds, provide them promptly to keep the transfer moving.
  7. Track the status. Every transfer has status tracking in the app, so you can follow it from submitted through to paid out.

Recipient-side considerations

Cambodia permits book-entry international transfers through authorized intermediaries, which are required to report cross-border flows to the National Bank of Cambodia. Your recipient may need to complete identity verification with the receiving institution if they have not already — under Cambodia's rules, a receiving entity must verify an incoming-transfer beneficiary's identity for transfers at or above KHR 4 million or the foreign-currency equivalent. Larger receipts (US$10,000 or more) involve additional reporting by the bank; this is a reporting requirement, not a ban on larger amounts.

Note that the US$10,000 customs declaration you may read about applies to cash and other means of payment physically carried across the border by a traveler — it is not something that applies to a normal electronic transfer. Encourage your recipient to have their ID ready and to confirm their own bank's instructions, as individual banks set their own account formats and currency routing.

Troubleshooting

Wrong recipient details

A wrong account number, using a card number instead of the correct bank account number, or a recipient name that does not match the account holder can stop the funds from being credited or cause a rejection. Double-check every field before confirming, and ask your recipient to verify the details against their bank records.

Compliance review

Missing or incorrect sender or beneficiary information can lead the receiving institution to suspend or reject a wire. Identity verification, sanctions screening and fraud checks can also hold a payment temporarily. Respond quickly if Coinepay or the receiving bank asks for more information or documents.

Delays

Delivery times vary by payout method, receiving institution and the checks involved. Use the status tracker in the Coinepay app to see where your transfer is. Never split a transfer, route it through a third party, or attempt to work around compliance checks — doing so can cause further delays or rejection.

Returned transfers

If a transfer cannot be completed — for example because of incorrect details or a failed check — it may be returned. If this happens, review the details, correct any errors and resend, or contact Coinepay support for help. You can also reach the team via Telegram.

FAQ

Which payout methods can I use to send money to Cambodia?

Coinepay supports bank deposit to a Cambodian bank account, local mobile wallets, and cash pickup at participating agents. The exact options available for your transfer are shown in the app when you select Cambodia as the destination.

Do I need an IBAN to send money to a Cambodian bank?

No. Cambodia does not have a national IBAN format. Use the account number the recipient's bank specifies along with the bank's SWIFT/BIC code. For ABA Bank, for example, use the 9-digit account number and the code ABAAKHPP, not a 16-digit card number.

Should I send Khmer riel or US dollars?

Both KHR and USD are widely used in Cambodia. Ask your recipient which they prefer, since many accounts handle both. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees for your chosen currency before you confirm.

Why might my transfer to Cambodia be delayed or returned?

Common causes include a wrong account number, using a card number instead of the bank account number, or a recipient name that does not match the account holder. Identity verification, sanctions screening and fraud checks can also hold a transfer. Respond promptly to any document requests.

What does my recipient need for a cash pickup?

For cash pickup, the recipient typically needs valid government ID, a name that matches the transfer exactly, a phone number and the pickup/reference code you share after sending.
