You can subscribe to The Times and The Sunday Times through the publisher’s subscription site, subject to the offer and payment options available where you live. This guide explains how to choose an eligible offer, enter your Coinepay virtual card at checkout, and respond if a payment does not go through.

Before you subscribe

Register for Coinepay and complete identity verification before using its card services. Coinepay provides a virtual card number, expiry date and CVV; you can manage your card through its self-service dashboard or mobile app. Check the Coinepay app for your card details and available funds before starting checkout. If you have not registered, use the Coinepay registration page.

You will also need an email address for your Times account and your real billing details. If The Times recognises your email during checkout, log in rather than trying to create another account with it. Direct subscriptions accept major credit and debit cards and PayPal, but that description does not establish whether any particular virtual card will be accepted. If checkout specifies a card-type requirement, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets it before you buy.

Check regional eligibility first. The publisher’s UK subscription packages require an adult resident of the UK, excluding the Channel Islands. Its introductory UK digital offers are for new UK-resident subscribers. The Irish trial offers are for new subscribers living in Ireland. Eligible readers elsewhere may be able to buy a digital-only subscription through the publisher’s global store, subject to its territorial and entitlement rules. Select the store and offer that apply to your actual residence; a card cannot override a publisher’s regional conditions. Print home delivery is limited to selected London-area postcodes and carries an additional charge.

Choose a Times subscription

Start on the official The Times subscription site for your region and read the current offer terms before selecting a plan. These examples show why it matters to check both the introductory price and the later charge:

  • Basic: smartphone-only access on one device. At the time of writing (October 2026), the UK new-subscriber offer was £1 per month for three months, then £20 per month.
  • Digital: access on smartphone, web and tablet. At the time of writing (October 2026), the UK new-subscriber offer was £1 per month for three months, then £30 per month.
  • Puzzles Subscription: a separate UK option. At the time of writing (October 2026), it was £1 for the first three months, then £4.99 per month.
  • Student Subscription: for verified students. At the time of writing (October 2026), the listed UK offer was £9.99 per year for three years, then £9.99 per month for the next two years if still eligible.

The publisher also lists print-and-digital packages, including Weekend Print + Digital, seven-day Print and Digital, and a The Sunday Times print-and-digital option. Print offers can have minimum terms and delivery restrictions. The Irish store has its own digital introductory offers and renewal terms. Check the official The Times pricing page for your region for the price, eligibility, minimum term and renewal amount that apply when you buy. Prices vary by region; do not assume a UK offer is available through the Irish or global store.

How to pay with your Coinepay virtual card

  1. Prepare your card. Sign in to the Coinepay dashboard or the Coinepay mobile app and check your virtual card number, expiry date, CVV and available funds. Allow for the amount shown at checkout and the later renewal price, rather than checking only the introductory payment.
  2. Select an eligible offer. On The Times subscription site for your region, choose the access you want. Review any device restrictions, student-verification requirement, print-delivery eligibility or minimum term attached to that offer.
  3. Sign in or create your Times account. Follow the publisher’s on-screen prompts. If it says your email is already recognised, sign in to the existing account. Use your real account and billing information.
  4. Review the order. Confirm the amount due now, the amount and date of the next charge, and any minimum term displayed before purchase. The publisher says the price and minimum term are specified before you buy and in the welcome email.
  5. Enter the card details if card payment is offered. Copy the number, expiry date and CVV from Coinepay into The Times checkout and enter your genuine billing details. Follow any payment-authentication prompt you are shown. Do not repeatedly submit an order if its status is unclear.
  6. Check for confirmation. The publisher says access begins when it receives the first payment. Look for the subscription confirmation and welcome email, and check your Times account if access does not appear as expected.

This process describes a subscription bought directly from the publisher. If you subscribe inside an iOS or Android app through the App Store or Google Play, Apple or Google handles the purchase and subsequent subscription management. The availability of a Coinepay card as a payment method there depends on that store’s checkout, not on The Times direct-payment flow.

If your card is declined

A failed payment does not, by itself, identify the cause. Review any message shown by the checkout and check whether a charge or subscription was created before trying again. Work through these common possibilities:

  • Insufficient available funds: compare the available amount shown in Coinepay with the full payment displayed by The Times. Check the available amount again before retrying; also plan for the subscription’s renewal charge.
  • Billing details do not match: check for typing errors in the card number, expiry date and CVV, and enter your real billing name and address. The publisher says billing-address changes can be made through the online account, live chat or customer services. If you are updating an existing subscription, check its saved details rather than assuming a new checkout will replace them.
  • Payment authentication is not completed: if a 3-D Secure or other verification prompt appears, complete it as instructed and return to checkout. If the prompt closes or fails, check the payment status before another attempt. Contact Coinepay support about a card-authentication problem, or The Times customer services if its checkout does not finish.
  • Merchant eligibility or region checks: check that you selected the correct regional store and meet that offer’s residence and account requirements. Do not change your address or location to claim an ineligible offer. If checkout lists a restriction on acceptable cards, ask Coinepay support whether your card meets it; neither a virtual-card number nor a successful account sign-up guarantees acceptance.
  • Expired or unavailable card: check the card’s expiry date and current status in Coinepay, particularly if a previously working subscription fails to renew. Ask The Times how to update payment details on an existing direct subscription if you cannot find the option in your online account.

If you see “A subscription already exists for this account” while trying to rejoin, first sign in and check your existing Times subscription. This reported message concerns account status, not necessarily a card decline. Contact the publisher’s customer services if the account shows no usable access or you cannot complete a renewal.

Managing or cancelling after purchase

Keep the welcome email so you can refer to the subscription terms and billing schedule. For a direct subscription, The Times says billing-address and subscription changes can be handled through your online account, live chat or customer services. If you bought through the App Store or Google Play, manage payment details and cancellation in that store instead.

Read the cancellation rules before committing. The publisher says cancelling within 14 days of the subscription start results in a refund to the original payment method and ends access; an email cancellation request is also an option during that initial period. After 14 days, direct subscribers in the UK or Ireland are directed to cancel by phone, while subscribers elsewhere may use live chat or phone. Digital subscriptions and print delivered to the door require at least two days’ notice before the next billing date. Voucher-book subscriptions have a different notice rule: at least 15 days before the 13-week booklet ends. Check the terms attached to your purchase if you are unsure which rule applies.

FAQ

Can I use a Coinepay virtual card for a The Times subscription?

Enter its details if card payment is offered at checkout, but acceptance depends on the publisher’s payment and eligibility checks. If a card-type restriction appears, ask Coinepay support whether your card meets it before buying.

Which Times digital plan works on a web browser?

The UK Digital plan covers smartphone, web and tablet access. The UK Basic plan is smartphone-only on one device. Check your regional store for the offer available to you.

What should I do if The Times says a subscription already exists for my account?

Sign in with that email and check your existing subscription and access. If you cannot use or renew it, contact The Times customer services; the message does not necessarily mean your card was declined.

Where do I cancel a Times subscription bought through an app store?

Cancel it in the App Store or Google Play account used to purchase it, rather than through the publisher’s direct-subscription cancellation process.
