Pinecone is a managed vector database used to power search and retrieval for AI applications. If you want to move from the free tier to a paid plan, you'll need a payment method on file. This guide walks through subscribing to Pinecone and paying with a Coinepay virtual card, and what to check if a charge is declined. It is a practical walkthrough, not an official Pinecone resource.
What you need before you start
- A registered Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. If you don't have one yet, create your account first, then manage everything from the iOS app, the Android app, or the 24/7 self-service dashboard.
- A Coinepay virtual card with its card number, expiry date and CVV visible in the app.
- Enough available balance on the card to cover the plan you intend to buy, plus any foreign-transaction cost your card provider may apply. Pinecone's agreement states that fees are payable in US dollars and that the customer bears any card-provider foreign-transaction charges.
- Your real billing details — name and billing address — matching the information on your Coinepay account.
- A Pinecone account where you are the organization owner or billing admin, because plan changes require that role.
Services related to virtual assets are not available to residents of mainland China, and some services are not available in every jurisdiction. Use your real identity and billing details throughout.
Pinecone plans at a glance
Pinecone's self-service tiers are Starter, Builder, Standard and Enterprise, with Bring your own cloud (BYOC) listed separately on a contact-for-pricing basis. At the time of writing (October 2026), the public pricing page showed these figures in US dollars:
| Plan | Price (US$, Oct 2026) |
|---|---|
| Starter | Free, with included usage limits |
| Builder | $20/month flat |
| Standard | $50/month minimum usage, then pay-as-you-go |
| Enterprise | $500/month minimum usage, then pay-as-you-go |
The Standard tier advertised a three-week trial that includes US$300 in credits. The public page shows US-dollar prices rather than separate local-currency checkout prices, and country-specific final prices are not confirmed. Prices and plan names change, so always confirm the current figures on Pinecone's official pricing page before you buy.
Step 1: Create or sign in to your Pinecone account
From Pinecone's pricing page, the "Start for Free" and paid-plan buttons lead into Pinecone's app, where you register or sign in. Set up your organization and confirm you hold an owner or billing-admin role, since only those roles can change the plan.
Step 2: Open the billing upgrade screen
Pinecone's documented upgrade path runs through the Console:
- Open the Pinecone Console.
- Go to Settings → Billing → Plans.
- Choose Upgrade on the plan you want.
- Select Credit / Debit card as the payment method.
Pinecone's documentation describes this flow for Standard and Enterprise; the newer Builder tier (announced during the May 2026 launch week at US$20/month alongside new Frankfurt and Singapore regions) was not yet reflected in that upgrade documentation, so the exact Builder checkout screens may look slightly different.
Step 3: Enter your Coinepay card details
- Open the Coinepay app or dashboard and view the virtual card you want to use.
- In Pinecone's card form, enter the card number, expiry date and CVV exactly as shown in Coinepay.
- Enter the billing name and address that match your Coinepay account.
- Review the plan and amount, then confirm with Upgrade.
If a verification step appears, complete it (see the troubleshooting section below). Once the charge succeeds, your new plan becomes active and future charges — including usage above a plan's minimum — are billed to that card.
Alternative: cloud marketplace billing
Instead of paying Pinecone directly, you can subscribe through a cloud marketplace. Pinecone documents three routes: AWS Marketplace, Google Cloud Marketplace and Microsoft Marketplace. You subscribe there, then connect a Starter organization or create one. Marketplace billing terms and the displayed billing units may differ from Pinecone's own pricing page, and the payment method is handled by the marketplace rather than by Pinecone's checkout. For purchases made through an intermediary like this, refunds are handled between you and that intermediary.
Supported payment methods
Pinecone documents credit/debit cards for direct checkout and the three cloud-marketplace routes. Its agreement also allows another payment method if Pinecone accepts it. Specific card networks, as well as bank transfer and digital wallets for direct checkout, are not confirmed in Pinecone's own documentation. Whether any given card is accepted depends on Pinecone and its payment processor. If you need to confirm that your Coinepay card meets a particular requirement before you commit to a paid plan, contact Coinepay support.
Troubleshooting card declines
Pinecone's agreement gives insufficient funds and card expiration as examples of unsuccessful charges, and allows it to retry the charge or invoice you directly. A full list of Pinecone-specific checkout error messages is not published, so the causes below are the common ones to rule out.
Insufficient balance
Make sure the card holds enough to cover the plan amount in US dollars, plus any foreign-transaction cost your card provider applies and a possible small authorization hold. Top up in the Coinepay app and try again.
Billing address mismatch
Many processors check the billing address against the card record. Enter the exact billing name and address associated with your Coinepay card. A mismatch is a frequent, quietly-failing cause of declines.
3-D Secure / verification step
If a 3-D Secure or one-time confirmation prompt appears, approve it through the Coinepay app or follow the confirmation method shown. Keep the app to hand during checkout so you don't miss a time-limited prompt.
Card details entered incorrectly
Re-check the card number, expiry and CVV against the Coinepay app. A single mistyped digit will cause the charge to fail.
Merchant or region checks
Pinecone's agreement restricts access and transactions involving sanctions targets and users in countries subject to a US embargo or designated as state sponsors of terrorism. A complete country-by-country list of where sign-up and payment are accepted is not confirmed. Note too that Starter's region availability is listed as AWS us-east-1 while Builder and higher tiers advertise cloud and region choice — that is a deployment limit, not a confirmation of which countries can buy. If a charge is refused and your balance and details are correct, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card is suitable, and reach out to Pinecone support about any account- or region-level block.
Managing, cancelling and refunds
Under Pinecone's published agreement, an order ends at the end of its applicable subscription term unless its terms provide otherwise, and outstanding usage and committed fees remain payable on termination. The exact self-service cancellation or downgrade controls and their timing per plan are not confirmed, so check your Billing settings in the Console. The agreement allows a prorated refund of unused prepaid amounts only in specified cases — such as termination for Pinecone's uncured material breach — and states there is no refund in other cases. For marketplace purchases, refunds are handled by that intermediary.
Keeping spending under control with Coinepay
Because usage on Standard and Enterprise is pay-as-you-go above the monthly minimum, costs can vary month to month. If you run Pinecone alongside other AI and software subscriptions, you can issue separate Coinepay virtual cards for different projects and set spending limits per card, which makes it easier to track each service's cost. Manage cards, balances and transaction history anytime from the iOS app or Android app. For help, reach Coinepay support or our Telegram channel.

FAQ
Which Pinecone plan should I pay for?
Starter is free with usage limits. At the time of writing (October 2026) Builder was US$20/month flat, Standard US$50/month minimum usage, and Enterprise US$500/month minimum usage, each billed in US dollars. BYOC is contact-for-pricing. Confirm current figures on Pinecone's official pricing page before buying.
Where do I enter my card in Pinecone?
Pinecone's documented path is Console → Settings → Billing → Plans → Upgrade → Credit / Debit card → enter card details → Upgrade. You must be an organization owner or billing admin to change the plan.
Why was my Coinepay card declined at Pinecone checkout?
Common causes are insufficient balance, a billing address that doesn't match your card record, an unapproved 3-D Secure prompt, or mistyped card details. Pinecone also restricts transactions involving sanctioned regions. Fix the details and retry, or contact Coinepay support to confirm your card is suitable.
Can I pay for Pinecone through a cloud marketplace instead?
Yes. Pinecone documents AWS Marketplace, Google Cloud Marketplace and Microsoft Marketplace. You subscribe there, then connect or create a Starter organization. Billing terms and refunds for those purchases are handled by the marketplace, not Pinecone's own checkout.
Can I get a refund after paying Pinecone?
Pinecone's agreement allows prorated refunds of unused prepaid amounts only in specified cases, such as termination for Pinecone's uncured material breach, and states there is no refund otherwise. For marketplace purchases, refunds are between you and that intermediary.
