Booking a Delta Air Lines flight means paying for a specific itinerary rather than a fixed monthly subscription, so the amount you pay depends on the route, cabin and dates you choose. This guide walks through what you need, how to check out on delta.com or the Fly Delta app with a Coinepay virtual card, and how to work through the most common reasons a card is declined.

Before you start

Delta sells several different things, and it helps to know which one you are buying:

  • Flights in experiences called Delta Main, Delta Comfort, Delta First, Delta Premium Select and Delta One, with booking tiers such as Basic, Classic and Extra where they are offered. Basic fare names include Delta Main Basic, Delta Comfort Basic, Delta First Basic, Delta Premium Select Basic and Basic Business.
  • SkyMiles, which is free to join. Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond Medallion are earned status tiers, not prices you pay.
  • Delta Sky Club membership, a separate paid product for eligible members.

Flight prices are not fixed by tier; they vary by itinerary and availability, and online tickets require immediate payment. Always confirm the current total on the official Delta page before you pay.

To pay with Coinepay you first need a verified account and a virtual card. If you have not set that up yet:

  1. Register for Coinepay at the sign-up page and complete identity verification (KYC). Card and fund services are provided by licensed partner financial institutions, and verification is required before you can use card services.
  2. Download the app from the App Store or Google Play, or use the 24/7 self-service dashboard.
  3. Create a virtual card. You will instantly see the card number, expiry date and CVV, which is what you enter at Delta checkout.
  4. Add enough funds to cover the full fare plus any taxes, carrier charges and local ticketing fees.
Services related to virtual assets are not available to residents of mainland China, and some services are not available in every jurisdiction. Use your real identity and real billing details throughout.

Step by step: pay for a Delta flight

  1. Go to delta.com or open the Fly Delta app and search for your route and dates.
  2. Compare the fares shown and select your itinerary and the available experience (for example Delta Main or Delta Comfort) and tier (Basic, Classic or Extra where offered).
  3. Add any passengers and extras, then proceed to the payment page.
  4. Choose to pay by credit or debit card. Delta's flight checkout lists American Express, Diners Club, Discover Network, JCB, UATP, Mastercard, Visa and UnionPay.
  5. Enter your Coinepay card number, expiry date and CVV exactly as shown in the app.
  6. Enter the cardholder name and the billing address that matches your Coinepay profile. Delta's instant online purchase depends on the country where the card bill is received, so the billing country matters.
  7. Review the full total, then select Complete Purchase. If your card issuer uses 3-D Secure, you may be asked to confirm the payment with a one-time code or app approval. (UnionPay cards, for example, prompt for an SMS one-time passcode after you complete the purchase.)
  8. Wait for the confirmation and your eTicket number before closing the page.

Delta also lists other payment options for certain routes, including eCredits, PayPal or PayPal Credit for eligible U.S.-departing flights, Alipay for U.S.- or China-departing flights, and specified instant bank transfers from listed European countries and Singapore. If you prefer to pay by card, stay on the card option above.

Buying a Delta Sky Club membership

Sky Club membership is sold separately from flights. An eligible Medallion member logs in on Delta's membership-purchase page to buy or renew. At the time of writing (October 2026), Delta listed Individual Membership at US$695 or 69,500 miles for one year and Executive Membership at US$1,495 or 149,500 miles for one year, published as USD or mile rates rather than country-by-country prices. These figures can change, so check the official Sky Club purchase page for the current price before you pay with your Coinepay card. Note that Sky Club memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable, effective from purchase.

Managing your card in the Fly Delta app

You can manage saved payment methods through My Profile in the Fly Delta app. If you replace your Coinepay virtual card, remove the old details and add the new card number, expiry and CVV so a future renewal or booking does not fail against a card that no longer exists.

Troubleshooting a declined card

If a payment does not go through, work through these common causes before trying again.

Insufficient balance

Flight totals include taxes and carrier-imposed charges, so the final amount can be higher than the base fare. Make sure your Coinepay card holds the full total. Delta also warns that your bank's per-transaction debit limit can block a charge, so very large itineraries may need you to top up and confirm available funds first.

Billing address or name mismatch

Delta warns that mismatched mailing and billing addresses can affect payment, and users have reported the error "credit card holder's name entered is invalid" (#4114R). Enter the cardholder name and billing address exactly as they appear in your Coinepay profile, with no extra spaces or abbreviations.

Billing country not supported

Instant online purchase depends on the country where your card bill is received. One reported error is "billing country is currently not supported" (#6028R). Delta notes that Colombia and South Africa require a representative to finalize some transactions, and other unsupported billing countries require a ticket office or travel agent. If you hit this, contact Delta about completing the booking through a representative. To confirm your Coinepay card meets Delta's billing-country requirement before you buy, contact Coinepay support.

3-D Secure or verification step fails

If a one-time passcode or app approval does not arrive, make sure notifications are enabled in the Coinepay app and that you can access the device on file. Complete the challenge promptly, as these codes expire.

Payment system temporarily unavailable

Some travelers have reported a "credit card payment system is temporarily unavailable" message on both the website and app. This points to a Delta-side issue, not your card. Wait a short while and try again, or switch between the app and the website.

Other restrictions Delta lists

Delta notes that certain foreign-issued Diners Club cards and one-time-use cards for departures fewer than six days away can also affect payment. If you plan to fly within a few days, allow extra time and confirm your card details are stable before booking.

Cancellations and refunds

Qualifying eTickets booked directly with Delta have Risk-Free Cancellation: cancel by midnight the day after purchase, or before departure if sooner, for a refund to the original payment method. After that window, an Extra or refundable ticket can be canceled before departure for a refund, while a nonrefundable ticket generally becomes an eCredit after applicable fees; an uncanceled no-show usually loses its value. Travel-agency tickets and certain reissued tickets are excluded. Any refund goes back to the Coinepay card you paid with, so keep that card active to receive it.

FAQ

Which card types does Delta accept at flight checkout?

Delta's flight checkout lists American Express, Diners Club, Discover Network, JCB, UATP, Mastercard, Visa and UnionPay. It also offers eCredits, PayPal for eligible U.S.-departing flights, Alipay for U.S.- or China-departing flights, and some instant bank transfers. To confirm your Coinepay card works for your booking, contact Coinepay support.

Why did I see "billing country is currently not supported" at checkout?

Delta's instant online purchase depends on the country where your card bill is received, and some billing countries are not supported online. Colombia and South Africa need a representative to finalize certain transactions, and other countries require a ticket office or travel agent. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card's billing country before you buy.

Can I pay for a Delta Sky Club membership with my Coinepay card?

An eligible Medallion member can log in on Delta's Sky Club membership-purchase page and pay by card. At the time of writing (October 2026) Individual Membership was listed at US$695 or 69,500 miles and Executive at US$1,495 or 149,500 miles per year. Check the official page for current prices; memberships are non-refundable.

Will a refund go back to my virtual card?

Yes. Qualifying Delta eTickets refund to the original payment method, so a refund returns to the Coinepay card you paid with. Keep that card active. Risk-Free Cancellation applies if you cancel by midnight the day after purchase, or before departure if sooner.

What should I do if my card is declined for insufficient balance?

Flight totals include taxes and carrier charges, so load the full amount shown onto your Coinepay card before paying. Delta also notes that your bank's per-transaction limit can block a charge, so top up and confirm available funds, then retry the booking.
