Apple Ads (renamed from Apple Search Ads in April 2025) lets you promote apps across the App Store and, in the United States and Canada, promote a business on Apple Maps. Because campaigns are billed as you spend rather than bought as a one-off purchase, you need a valid payment method on file before anything can run. This guide explains what you need, how to add a Coinepay virtual card, and how to troubleshoot the most common reasons a card is declined.

What you need before you start

  • A Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. If you have not registered yet, sign up at the Coinepay registration page and install the app from the App Store or Google Play.
  • A Coinepay virtual card with its number, expiry date and CVV, which are issued instantly in the dashboard.
  • Your real business name, address, currency and tax details, which Apple asks for during account setup.
  • An Apple Account to sign in to the Apple Ads dashboard.

Apple sets the account currency during setup and notes that it cannot be changed later, so pick the currency you intend to settle in. Supported billing currencies include AUD, GBP, CAD, EUR, JPY, MXN, NZD and USD, among others.

Which card types Apple Ads accepts

This is the most important step to check first. For App Store ad accounts, Apple states that it accepts Visa, Mastercard (including Apple Card) and American Express. PIN-less and PIN-optional Visa and Mastercard debit cards are accepted as long as their daily limit covers the charges.

Apple also lists card types it does not accept for the App Store ad-account payment flow: Visa Plus, prepaid cards, gift cards and ATM cards, along with PayPal and Venmo. Only one payment method can be active at a time.

Because card program details vary, confirm that your Coinepay card meets Apple's requirement before you commit any budget. Contact Coinepay support to check your card type against Apple's accepted list, or ask in the Coinepay Telegram channel. Do not assume a card qualifies until you have confirmed it.

In India, Apple accepts a UPI app or a credit/debit card issued by a bank outside India, and does not accept a direct payment from an India-issued card. If you advertise with an INR account, plan around this rule.

Step by step: set up Apple Ads and add your card

For App Store ads (Advanced or Basic)

  1. Go to the Apple Ads website and choose Apple Ads Advanced (campaign-level controls, charged per ad tap up to your bid) or Apple Ads Basic (automated, charged per attributed install up to your chosen maximum cost per install, with a US$10,000 per-app monthly budget maximum).
  2. Sign in with your Apple Account.
  3. Enter your business, currency and tax details.
  4. Read and accept the Apple advertising terms.
  5. Open account name → Settings → Billing → Payment Method and add your Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date and CVV, plus the billing address linked to the card.
  6. Create your campaign or Basic promotion. A Basic promotion can start once created and a valid method is present; an Advanced campaign can likewise start when a method is added, unless you pause or schedule it.

Note that App Store campaigns using lifetime budgets were paused in June 2026; campaigns that combined lifetime and daily budgets switched to daily budget only, so plan with daily budgets.

For Apple Maps ads (United States and Canada only)

  1. Sign up for Apple Business, verify your organization and claim its locations. Your organization address and business locations must be in the US or Canada.
  2. Create your ad and set a budget.
  3. Add your payment method. In Apple Business, the setting is at organization name → Settings → Payments & Billing → Ads → Payment Method. For Maps managed through Apple Ads, use the Apple Ads billing settings.

How and when you are charged

Apple Ads is not a single checkout. For card and UPI accounts, charges generally occur after US$500 spent, ₹14,000 for INR campaigns, or seven days, whichever comes first. Qualifying Advanced advertisers may instead receive a line of credit with monthly invoices. Applicable taxes can be added to your charges or invoices and are not counted inside your campaign budget.

When you first add a card, you may see a temporary US$0 or US$1 validation authorization. This is an authorization to confirm the card, not an ad charge, and is usually removed by the bank within 14 days. Keep enough balance in your Coinepay card for both this check and your expected spend.

Troubleshooting common card declines

Apple's billing help describes the scenarios below but does not publish fixed on-screen error wording, so focus on the underlying cause rather than an exact message.

Insufficient balance or daily limit

A debit card is accepted only if its daily limit covers the charges. Top up your Coinepay card in the app and confirm the available balance comfortably exceeds your expected billing threshold, remembering that taxes are added on top of the budget.

Incorrect card details or billing address mismatch

Re-enter the card number, expiry and CVV exactly as shown in your Coinepay dashboard, and make sure the billing address you type into Apple matches the address on your Coinepay account. A mismatch is a documented cause of failed registration.

Issuer authentication (3-D Secure)

Failure to complete issuer authentication can cause a decline. Keep the Coinepay app handy to approve any verification prompt or one-time code during setup and when charges are processed.

Foreign-transaction or region restrictions

Apple lists issuer restrictions on foreign transactions as a decline cause, and it will not reimburse card-issuer foreign transaction fees. App Store ads are available in 91 countries and regions (product-page ads in 90, excluding mainland China), and Maps ads only in the US and Canada; France adds an advertiser-ownership restriction on App Store app promotions. Make sure your target placement and account country are supported, and use your real details—never try to work around a regional check.

Unsupported card type

If the card is rejected outright, confirm it is not a type Apple excludes (prepaid, gift, ATM or Visa Plus). Ask Coinepay support to verify your card qualifies before retrying.

A declined charge can pause your ads, and Apple typically retries within 24 hours. Fixing the balance or details and keeping the method valid usually lets delivery resume.

Pausing, charges after a pause, and disputes

Basic promotions can be paused; Advanced campaigns can be paused or permanently removed, though a paused campaign's ads may stay visible for a few hours. Pausing does not erase amounts already incurred—Basic installs can create residual charges after a pause because attribution runs for 30 days, and terminating the advertising agreement makes outstanding fees immediately payable. Invoice disputes must be emailed to [email protected] within 30 days of the invoice date, subject to applicable law.

A note on prices

These self-service offerings have no fixed subscription price or standard tap/install rate—you set your own bids and budgets, so actual charges vary by region and campaign. Check the official Apple Ads pricing and help pages for current details, and use your Coinepay app or Coinepay dashboard to manage your card balance.

FAQ

Does Apple Ads accept a Coinepay virtual card?

Apple Ads accepts Visa, Mastercard (including Apple Card) and American Express for App Store ad accounts, and does not accept prepaid, gift, ATM or Visa Plus cards. Card program details vary, so contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets Apple's requirement before you add it.

Where do I add my card in Apple Ads?

For App Store and Apple Ads-managed Maps accounts, go to account name → Settings → Billing → Payment Method. For Maps managed through Apple Business, go to organization name → Settings → Payments & Billing → Ads → Payment Method.

Why was a small US$0 or US$1 charge placed on my card?

That is a temporary validation authorization Apple uses to confirm the card, not an ad charge. Banks usually remove it within 14 days. Keep enough balance on your Coinepay card for this check plus your expected spend.

When does Apple actually charge my card?

For card and UPI accounts, charges generally occur after US$500 spent, ₹14,000 for INR campaigns, or seven days, whichever comes first. Taxes are added on top and are not counted inside your campaign budget.

My card was declined and my ads paused—what should I do?

Check for insufficient balance or daily limit, incorrect card details, a billing-address mismatch, incomplete issuer authentication, or foreign-transaction restrictions. Fix the issue and keep the method valid; Apple typically retries within 24 hours.
