Azure Machine Learning is billed through an Azure subscription, not a separate Machine Learning checkout. Before you try to use a Coinepay virtual card, there is an important restriction: Microsoft says Azure does not accept virtual or prepaid cards. Contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets Azure’s payment requirements before you buy. Do not assume it will be accepted; if it is ineligible, use a payment method Azure supports for your country and account type.
What you need before you start
- An eligible Azure account: Check that your country appears in Azure’s sign-up options and that Azure Machine Learning and the compute resources you need are available in your chosen Azure region. Use your real identity, phone number and billing details.
- A suitable Azure payment method: Microsoft generally accepts credit and debit cards, subject to country and account type, but explicitly excludes virtual and prepaid cards. Its supported-card table also varies by country. For example, it lists Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards in India, while Brazil and Hong Kong accept credit cards only. Check Microsoft’s current supported payment methods for your location rather than relying on a card being accepted elsewhere.
- A cost plan: Azure Machine Learning has no separate service subscription fee. You pay for compute and separately billed Azure services, such as storage. Review the official Azure Machine Learning pricing page for the region, currency and resources you intend to use; prices vary by region and agreement.
- Coinepay access, if you are checking your card: Register and complete identity verification before using Coinepay card services. You can view your virtual card’s number, expiry date and CVV in the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app. Having card details available does not make the card eligible for Azure.
Eligible new customers may be offered an Azure free account with a US$200 credit for 30 days, at the time of writing (October 2026). Check Azure’s official purchase-options page for the current offer and eligibility. This is an Azure account credit, not a permanently free Azure Machine Learning compute tier. Continuing with paid usage after the credit is used or expires requires moving to pay-as-you-go pricing.
How Azure Machine Learning purchasing and billing work
Azure lists Pay as you go, an Azure savings plan for compute with a one- or three-year spending commitment, and eligible Azure Reserved Virtual Machine Instances with one- or three-year terms. These are purchasing options, not Machine Learning feature tiers. If you are starting out, understand the cost of the workspace’s compute and related resources before considering a commitment.
Do not confuse the current service with Machine Learning Studio (classic): that product retired in 2024, so its old Free and Standard workspace tiers are not current Azure Machine Learning plans. Likewise, references to Machine Learning SDK or CLI v1 and v2 describe development tools, not billing tiers.
Step by step: sign up and create a Machine Learning workspace
- Check payment eligibility first. Read Azure’s supported payment methods for your country and account type. Because Microsoft excludes virtual cards, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the requirement before you buy. If it does not, choose an Azure-supported alternative; do not repeatedly submit an ineligible card.
- Start Azure sign-up. On Microsoft’s Azure site, choose the applicable account or purchase option. Sign-up proceeds through About you → phone verification → card verification → agreement. Enter your actual personal or business details and the billing information associated with your eligible payment method.
- Complete card verification if requested. A temporary card-verification authorization may appear during free-account sign-up. An eligible free account is not charged for usage unless you elect to move to pay-as-you-go. Follow the verification prompts displayed by Microsoft and your payment provider; do not treat an authorization as confirmation that future payments will succeed.
- Open the Azure portal. After your Azure subscription is ready, select Create a resource → Machine Learning → Create. Choose the subscription, resource group and region for your workspace, then review and create it. Creating the workspace is not a second, separate Machine Learning subscription checkout.
- Review costs before running work. Check the applicable pricing for your selected region, compute and other Azure resources. Monitor usage in the Azure portal under Cost Management + Billing; charges depend on the resources you use.
Online pay-as-you-go accounts normally charge their default card automatically. If you have an eligible invoice with a manual payment option, look under Cost Management + Billing → Invoices → Pay now. Invoice or wire-transfer billing is not automatically available to every account; it requires the applicable account arrangement or approval.
Where to check or change an Azure payment method
In the Azure portal, open Cost Management + Billing. For a Microsoft Customer Agreement, the path is Billing profiles → [profile] → Payment methods. What you can view or change depends on your billing permissions and account arrangement. If the control is missing, ask an authorized billing administrator to review it rather than opening another account to work around a payment restriction.
If you are assessing a Coinepay card for a different online purchase, its number, expiry date and CVV are available after issuance in the Coinepay dashboard or the iOS app and Android app. For Azure, check Microsoft’s virtual-card restriction before entering those details.
Troubleshooting an Azure card decline
A decline does not identify its cause by itself. Start with Azure’s payment-method rules: a virtual card may be refused because Microsoft excludes virtual cards, regardless of its available balance or whether its details are correct. Contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets Azure’s requirement before you buy, and use an Azure-supported alternative if it does not.
- Insufficient available funds or an authorization failure: Check the balance available to your payment method and any pending authorization. Microsoft may attempt a card-verification or billing-threshold authorization. If your card is eligible but the issuer declined it, ask the provider to review the attempt. Adding funds cannot resolve Azure’s virtual-card restriction.
- Billing details do not match: Compare the cardholder name, billing address, expiry date and CVV with the details held by the payment provider. Correct genuine errors using your real information; do not enter a different address to make a region check pass.
- 3-D Secure or another verification prompt fails: If an authentication prompt appears, complete it through the method offered by your payment provider and return to Azure. If it times out or never arrives, ask the provider what happened. Successful authentication does not override Azure’s payment-method policy.
- Country, region or card-type check: Confirm that Azure sign-up supports your actual country and that your card type is listed for it. Microsoft’s rules differ by market and account type. A card may also be inactive, blocked, outdated or disabled for international transactions. Ask your payment provider about the specific decline, but do not change your stated country to bypass a restriction.
During sign-up, Microsoft may display “We cannot proceed with sign-up due to an issue with your account. Please contact billing support” or “You are not eligible for an Azure subscription”. Review your profile, card and billing-address details, then contact Microsoft billing support for an account-specific explanation. If the question concerns your Coinepay card or a failed authorization, contact Coinepay support as well.
Managing or stopping charges
Keep track of both Machine Learning compute and other Azure resources, such as storage, in Cost Management + Billing. If you no longer need the Azure subscription, its owner can go to Cost Management + Billing → Subscriptions/Azure subscriptions → [subscription] → Cancel. Microsoft says billing stops immediately on cancellation, with a final invoice for usage already incurred on the usual invoice date. Review any savings-plan or reservation commitment separately before making changes; those purchasing arrangements have their own terms.

Microsoft says Azure does not accept virtual cards. Contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets Azure’s requirement before you buy; if it does not, use an Azure-supported payment method.
Is there a separate Azure Machine Learning subscription to buy?
No. You create a Machine Learning workspace under an Azure subscription and pay for compute and separately billed Azure resources.
Where can I update my Azure payment method?
Open Cost Management + Billing in the Azure portal. For a Microsoft Customer Agreement, go to Billing profiles → [profile] → Payment methods. Access depends on your billing permissions.
Why did Azure decline my card even though it has a balance?
