Sky Go is the streaming app that lets Sky customers watch their channels on phones, tablets and computers. The first thing to understand before you reach for a card is that Sky Go is almost always included with a qualifying Sky TV subscription rather than sold as a standalone plan. In most markets you pay for the Sky TV package, and Sky Go comes with it. This guide explains what you need, how the sign-up and checkout works, and how to use a Coinepay virtual card, with a troubleshooting section for declined payments.
What you are actually paying for
Because Sky Go rides on an active Sky TV account, the recurring charge on your card is the TV subscription (and any extra tiers), not a separate "Sky Go" line item. The names and prices differ by country:
- UK: Sky Go is included with Sky TV. Sky Go Extra is an add-on (£5/month at the time of writing, October 2026, or included with Whole Home and Multiscreen). Entry TV packages such as Essential TV (£15/month) and Ultimate TV (£24/month) are advertised for new customers on 24-month terms.
- Republic of Ireland: Sky Go is included with Sky TV; Sky Go Extra is included with Multiscreen. Entry TV packages are advertised from €18/month (Essential TV) and €28/month (Ultimate TV) for 12 months.
- Italy: The only current name is Sky Go, included at no extra charge with an active Sky subscription (paid "Sky Go Plus" was merged into Sky Go in November 2021).
- Germany/Austria: Sky Go is included with Sky TV; Sky Go Plus is a paid upgrade for more mobile streams and offline viewing.
- New Zealand: Sky Go costs eligible domestic customers nothing extra, but you need a base package such as Sky Starter (NZ$25.99/month at the time of writing), with optional add-ons.
Prices can change, including during a minimum term, so always confirm the current figure on the official Sky site for your country before you order.
What you need before you start
- A Sky iD (or My Account in New Zealand) and, in most regions, a real residential address in a country where Sky operates.
- A payment method that Sky accepts in your market. In Germany, Sky lists SEPA direct debit, Visa or Mastercard credit/debit cards, and PayPal. In Italy, Sky lists credit cards, bank-account debit by IBAN, and certain PostePay cards. For the UK, ROI, Austria and New Zealand, a complete official list of accepted card brands was not confirmed when this guide was written, so check during checkout.
- A Coinepay virtual card with its number, expiry date and CVV. Register and complete identity verification first at Coinepay registration, then open the card details in the app.
Where a market restricts card types (for example only certain networks, or domestically issued cards), state your card details at checkout and let Sky's system decide. If you are unsure, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets a specific requirement before you buy.
Set up your Coinepay virtual card
- Download the app from the App Store or Google Play, or sign in to the dashboard.
- Finish KYC verification. Card services are only available after verification, and some services are not offered in every jurisdiction.
- Create a virtual card. You will instantly see the card number, expiry and CVV.
- Add enough balance to cover the first TV charge plus any activation fee (for example, some Italian offers list a €19 activation charge). Keep a buffer so recurring renewals do not fail.
- Note the exact billing name and address on your Coinepay account so they match what you enter at Sky.
Step-by-step: order Sky and set your card
UK and Republic of Ireland
- Order your Sky TV package on the official Sky site. Sky Go is included; add Sky Go Extra if you want it (it is automatic with eligible Multiscreen/Whole Home, and eligible Sky+/Sky Q customers can pay to add it).
- During checkout, enter your Coinepay card details and billing address exactly as they appear in the app.
- After ordering, download the Sky Go app and sign in with your Sky iD.
- To change the card later, update the TV-bill payment method online or in the My Sky app. Separate Sky-service bills need separate updates, and payment changes can no longer be made through the TV.
Germany and Austria
- Start the online order on the Sky site: choose the TV package, reception method, add-ons, then create your account and enter personal details.
- At payment, pick card and enter your Coinepay Visa/Mastercard details.
- Add Sky Go Plus later at Sky account → Mein Sky → Mein Abo. Manage or change the method under Zahlung und Abrechnungen, and view bills at Mein Sky → Zahlung und Abrechnungen → Abrechnungsübersicht.
Italy
- Order a qualifying Sky TV offer. Download Sky Go, sign in with your Sky iD and accept the terms.
- Manage payment at My Sky → Gestisci → subscription → Pagamenti e fatture, or Fai da te → Fatture → Pagamenti e fatture → Modifica. Note that online payment-method changes are currently unavailable for Sky Stream customers.
New Zealand
- Register or sign in to My Account and link your domestic Sky account.
- On the Sky Go website, go to profile → My Hub → Add, add your package, enter your four-digit Sky Go PIN and confirm the purchase.
Troubleshooting a declined card
Insufficient balance
Sky's own guidance lists cancelled payments, insufficient funds and failed card collections among common failures, and it says a failed streaming-TV card collection is retried within 10 days. Top up your Coinepay card before the billing date and keep a buffer for activation charges and renewals.
Billing address mismatch
If the name or address you typed does not match your Coinepay account, the bank's checks can reject the charge. Re-enter the billing details exactly as shown in the app.
3-D Secure / extra verification
Sky's payment partner may trigger a 3-D Secure step. Approve it in your Coinepay app or via the one-time code so the transaction can complete. If a payment is queried as possible fraud, confirm it is genuine and try again.
Expired or expiring card
Sky explicitly asks customers to update an expired or expiring card. If your Coinepay card details change, update them before the next collection to avoid a "PAYMENT DUE" status.
Merchant region and card-type checks
Sky TV is sold to residents of the countries where it operates, and viewing is geo-restricted (UK Sky Go is UK-only; ROI downloads are restricted to ROI; Italian subscribers can stream in Italy, San Marino and Vatican City, and temporarily in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway subject to residency checks; German/Austrian and NZ apps are tied to their regions). Use your real identity and address. If a market also limits card networks or issuing country and your payment is declined, do not try to disguise your location. Instead, confirm the requirement with Sky and ask Coinepay support whether your card fits before retrying.
Keep renewals healthy
Because the charge is your Sky TV subscription, cancellation and refund rules follow the TV contract, not Sky Go. The UK generally needs 31 days' notice and has a 31-day cooling-off period on new TV orders (ROI 14 days); Germany allows withdrawal within 14 days; Italy and New Zealand have their own notice periods and possible early-termination charges on minimum terms. Set a reminder before each billing date, keep your Coinepay balance funded, and check the official Sky site for your country for the current price and terms.

FAQ
Is Sky Go a separate subscription I can pay for on its own?
In most regions no. Sky Go is included with a qualifying Sky TV subscription, so the recurring charge on your card is the TV package (plus any extras like Sky Go Extra in the UK or Sky Go Plus in Germany/Austria), not a standalone Sky Go fee.
Will my Coinepay virtual card definitely be accepted by Sky?
Acceptance depends on your market and the card type Sky allows. Germany lists Visa or Mastercard credit/debit cards; some other markets did not have a confirmed public card list. Enter your card at checkout, and if it is declined, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets any requirement.
Why was my Sky payment declined?
Common causes are insufficient balance, a billing-address mismatch, an unapproved 3-D Secure step, an expired card, or regional/card-type checks. Top up your Coinepay card, match your billing details exactly, approve the verification prompt, and keep your card details current.
Can I watch Sky Go abroad after paying with my card?
Sky Go is geo-restricted. UK viewing is UK-only, ROI downloads are ROI-only, and Italian, German/Austrian and NZ access is tied to each region with limited temporary EU travel use where applicable. Paying with a Coinepay card does not change these residency and location checks.
How do I change the card Sky bills?
Update the TV-bill payment method online or in the My Sky app (UK/ROI), under Zahlung und Abrechnungen (Germany), or via Pagamenti e fatture in My Sky (Italy). Separate Sky services may need separate updates, and some flows are unavailable for certain Sky Stream/Glass customers.
