Readly is a digital newsstand that gives you unlimited access to hundreds of magazines and newspapers on one subscription. If you would rather pay with a virtual card than hand over a physical card number, a Coinepay virtual card gives you an instant card number, expiry date and CVV you can enter at the Readly checkout. This guide walks through what you need, how to subscribe, and how to work through a declined payment.
Before you start
A few things make the checkout smoother:
- A verified Coinepay account. Register and finish identity verification (KYC) first, then create a virtual card in the app. You can sign up here and manage everything from the iOS or Android app.
- Funds on the card. Make sure the card balance covers the Readly plan you choose plus any small authorisation hold the merchant may place.
- Your real billing details. Use your genuine name and billing address exactly as they appear on your Coinepay account. Mismatched details are a common cause of declines.
- A note on Readly's card policy. Readly's help pages state that your payment details must work for online payments and be linked to a bank registered in the same country as your Readly account, and its older terms require a locally issued card when paying by card. This is a merchant rule, not a Coinepay rule. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before you buy.
Which Readly plan and price
On the non-Nordic Readly site, consumer subscriptions are offered as three tiers: Readly Premium (one profile), Readly Duo (two profiles) and Readly Family (five profiles). Each shows a monthly and an annual selector.
Prices vary by region. At the time of writing (October 2026), the public offers pages showed:
| Market | Premium | Duo | Family | Intro offer shown |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| United States | $12.99/mo | $15.99/mo | $18.99/mo | One free month |
| United Kingdom | £12.99/mo | £15.99/mo | £18.99/mo | One free month (a separate plan page showed two) |
| Germany | €14.99/mo | €16.99/mo | €19.99/mo | €0.99 for two months |
The Nordic Readly sites work differently: Sweden displayed SEK 149/month after two free months and Norway NOK 199/month after two free months, without the Premium/Duo/Family tier names. Because introductory offers and prices change and differ between pages, always confirm the exact price and trial on Readly's own offers page at checkout before you pay.
Create your Coinepay virtual card
- Open the Coinepay app or dashboard and sign in to your verified account.
- Create a new virtual card. You will immediately see the card number, expiry date and CVV.
- Add or confirm enough balance to cover the first charge and any authorisation hold.
- Keep the card details handy, or keep the app open so you can read them during checkout.
Subscribe to Readly step by step
- Go to the Readly offers page for your country and compare Premium, Duo and Family.
- Choose a tier and the monthly or annual option, then select Subscribe.
- You will be taken to sign in or create a Readly account. Enter your email, set a password and accept the terms. Readly validates your email address as part of sign-up.
- At the payment step, choose card as your method. Readly's terms list bank card, PayPal, Google Pay and Apple Pay, and its help page specifically names Visa and Mastercard credit cards (the German page additionally lists Klarna). Acceptance of American Express or other networks is not confirmed and can differ by market.
- Enter your Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date and CVV, and the billing name and address that match your Coinepay account.
- Review the plan, the introductory offer and the recurring price shown on screen. Where a free trial applies, the first full charge is usually deferred until the trial ends.
- Confirm. If prompted, complete any 3-D Secure verification step (see below), then wait for the confirmation screen and email.
Tip: note the renewal date and price. Readly subscriptions recur automatically at the frequency of the offer you chose until you cancel.
If your card is declined
Readly does not publish specific decline codes, so work through the usual causes one at a time. The most common are:
Insufficient balance
The charge, or a temporary authorisation hold, may exceed your card balance. Top up your Coinepay card so it comfortably covers the plan price, then try again. Older Readly terms note that insufficient balance is a renewal risk and that failed charges may be retried over several days before access ends.
Billing address mismatch
If the name or address you type at checkout does not match what is on file for the card, the payment can fail an address check. Re-enter your billing details exactly as they appear in your Coinepay account, with the correct country and postcode.
3-D Secure not completed
Many card payments trigger a 3-D Secure confirmation. Make sure you can receive and approve that prompt in the Coinepay app, and complete it before the screen times out. If you miss it, restart the checkout.
Merchant region check
Readly asks that your card be linked to a bank registered in the same country as your Readly account, and its older terms expect a locally issued card. If the checkout rejects the card on a regional basis, that is this rule in action. Make sure your Readly account country, your billing address and your card are consistent, and contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets Readly's country requirement before you retry. Do not try to work around a merchant's regional checks.
Card network or type not accepted
Because Readly names Visa and Mastercard and leaves other networks unconfirmed, a decline can simply mean the method is not supported in your market. Check the Coinepay app for your card details and ask Coinepay support if you are unsure, or choose another accepted method such as PayPal if it is offered.
Change your card or fix a failed renewal
To update the card on file, Readly's help describes: Log in → Subscriptions & Payments → Edit or change payment details → Change Payment Method. If a renewal failed and access lapsed, you can reactivate by signing in and selecting Buy Subscription, then entering payment details. Exact menu names can vary on migrated accounts, so follow the route your own account shows.
Cancelling and refunds
If you subscribed directly on the website, the current non-Nordic terms give the cancellation route as My account → My package → Cancel my subscription, with at least 24 hours' notice before the last day of your current subscription month; access then continues until that period ends. Older support describes an alternative My account → Subscriptions & Payments → Cancel route, so use whichever appears for the account actually billed. If you subscribed through Apple or Google, cancel in their subscription settings instead. Readly's older terms state cancellation does not refund the unused paid period; whether an equivalent rule applies to newer purchases is not confirmed, so check the terms shown at your checkout.
A note on availability
In April 2026, Cafeyn Group completed its acquisition of Readly's non-Nordic operations, while the Nordic business remained with Bonnier News. Readly reserves the right to restrict service to certain countries, and some individual titles carry their own regional limits. The plans, prices and checkout methods you see depend on your market. Use your own account and real details, and confirm everything on Readly's official pages.

FAQ
Which card networks does Readly accept?
Readly's help page specifically names Visa and Mastercard credit cards, along with PayPal; the German page also lists Klarna, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Acceptance of American Express or other networks is not confirmed and can vary by market and checkout. Check the Coinepay app for your card details and contact Coinepay support if you are unsure.
Does Readly require a card issued in my own country?
Yes. Readly asks that your payment details work for online payments and be linked to a bank registered in the same country as your Readly account, and its older terms expect a locally issued card. This is Readly's rule. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before you buy.
How much does Readly cost?
Prices vary by region. At the time of writing (October 2026), US Premium was $12.99/month, Duo $15.99 and Family $18.99; UK and German prices differ, and Nordic sites show SEK or NOK monthly rates. Always confirm the current price and any free trial on Readly's official offers page at checkout.
Why was my Coinepay card declined at Readly checkout?
Common causes are insufficient balance, a billing address that does not match your card details, an incomplete 3-D Secure confirmation, or Readly's regional card check. Top up the card, re-enter matching billing details, approve the 3-D Secure prompt in the app, and contact Coinepay support if a regional restriction is involved.
How do I cancel my Readly subscription?
If you subscribed on the website, the current route is My account → My package → Cancel my subscription, with at least 24 hours' notice before the last day of your subscription month; older accounts may show Subscriptions & Payments → Cancel. Apple or Google subscriptions must be cancelled in those stores' settings instead.
