Power BI Pro is a per-user license for Microsoft's Power BI service. If you plan to pay with a Coinepay virtual card, check your organization's purchasing permissions and Microsoft's card requirements before starting checkout. This guide covers the purchase steps, common reasons a card payment may fail, and where to manage the subscription afterward.

What you need before buying Power BI Pro

  • A work or school account. Power BI service self-sign-up requires a work or school email address; you cannot sign up directly with a consumer email address. Your organization may also disable self-service sign-up or purchasing. If it has, ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to arrange the license.
  • A Coinepay account and card. Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. You can find your virtual card number, expiry date and CVV in the Coinepay app or 24/7 self-service dashboard. Check the app for your available funds and applicable card details.
  • Permission to buy the right license quantity. Decide how many users need Pro before checkout. If your organization already provides Pro through Microsoft 365 E5 or Office 365 E5, confirm whether another purchase is necessary.
  • Your real billing information. Have the cardholder's correct name and billing address ready. Use details that match the card's records and your organization's legitimate account information.

Check card eligibility first: Microsoft's self-service purchase checkout accepts credit cards, not invoicing. Microsoft's business-account guidance also says the payment method must be issued in the same country or region as the tenant, and that prepaid cards are not accepted. Do not assume a virtual card satisfies those rules. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets Microsoft's requirements before you buy; your Microsoft 365 administrator can help verify the tenant's country or region. Acceptance remains subject to Microsoft's checkout and payment checks.

Choose the Power BI license and review the price

Microsoft lists three per-user license names: Fabric (Free), Power BI Pro and Power BI Premium Per User (PPU). Select Power BI Pro if that is the license your organization needs; PPU is a different license. The pricing page also lists Power BI Embedded and Microsoft Fabric capacity options, which are not the standalone Pro per-user purchase described here.

At the time of writing (October 2026), Microsoft's United States pricing page displayed Power BI Pro at US$14.00 per user per month, paid yearly. That displayed rate is not a verified checkout total. Prices and taxes depend on the purchasing region and terms, so check Microsoft's official Power BI pricing page and the amount shown at checkout before placing an order. Review the subscription term as well as the number of licenses: a per-month display does not, by itself, mean a month-to-month commitment.

How to subscribe and pay with your Coinepay virtual card

  1. Confirm your buying route. Sign in with your work or school account. Eligible users may begin from Buy now on Microsoft's Power BI pricing page, an in-product upgrade prompt, or Account manager in the upper-right of Power BI. Pro can also be purchased through the Microsoft 365 admin center. If your organization manages software purchases centrally, follow your administrator's process rather than making a separate self-service purchase.
  2. Select Power BI Pro. Check that the offer says Power BI Pro rather than Power BI Premium Per User. If Microsoft asks you to sign in again or validates your existing organization account, complete those steps using your real account.
  3. Choose the quantity and review the order. In an eligible self-service checkout, enter the number of licenses you need. Read the displayed purchase price, billing term, taxes and any trial terms before continuing. Some trials request a card and convert to a paid subscription; do not treat a trial as free of future charges without checking its terms.
  4. Enter the card information. Retrieve your Coinepay card number, expiry date and CVV from the app or dashboard. Enter the requested card and genuine billing details carefully. Self-service checkout asks for a credit card; if your card does not meet that requirement, use an eligible payment arrangement approved by your organization rather than repeatedly submitting it.
  5. Complete any payment verification. If an authentication prompt appears, follow the on-screen instructions for that payment. Keep the checkout open until it confirms the outcome. If a verification step fails or never arrives, check the guidance below instead of assuming the order succeeded.
  6. Verify the purchase. Check Microsoft's confirmation and your organization's license assignment. For a self-service purchase, look in the Microsoft 365 admin center under Billing → Your products → Self-service. If you cannot see the subscription or use Pro features, ask your administrator to check which account holds the purchase and whether the license has been assigned.

Some purchasing routes are restricted. Microsoft says self-service purchase is unavailable for India, government and education tenants; this is a restriction on that checkout route, not a general statement that Pro cannot be purchased. Ask your administrator about the appropriate purchasing channel if it applies to your organization.

What to do if the card is declined

Start with the exact message shown at checkout and check whether Microsoft sent a declined-payment email. A message does not always identify the underlying cause. Purchasers have reported wording such as “Check that the details in all fields are correct or try a different card” and “Something went wrong on our end. Select Place order to try again”; these reports do not establish why a particular payment failed.

  • Insufficient available funds: Compare the available amount shown in Coinepay with the actual checkout total, including applicable tax and the billing term. A displayed per-user, per-month rate paid yearly may not equal the amount due now. If funds are insufficient, add funds through an available option shown in your Coinepay account before trying again.
  • Billing details do not match: Recheck the card number, expiry, CVV, cardholder name and billing address for typing errors. Use your genuine billing details; do not substitute an address to make a regional check pass. Microsoft identifies mismatched card or billing information as a possible decline cause.
  • 3-D Secure or another bank security check: If checkout requests authentication, complete the prompt promptly and check whether it was approved. A failed or interrupted security check can prevent a payment from completing. If there is no prompt or you cannot complete it, contact Coinepay support with the time and amount of the attempted charge, without sending your full card number or CVV in a support message.
  • Merchant or tenant-region checks: Ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to confirm the tenant country or region, and ask Coinepay support whether your card meets Microsoft's same-country-or-region issuance rule and other card restrictions. Do not change your account or billing details to evade a restriction.
  • Inactive card or payment-method restriction: Check your card's status in Coinepay. Remember that Microsoft specifies credit cards for self-service checkout and does not accept prepaid cards for business accounts. If eligibility is the issue, work with your administrator on an appropriate Microsoft purchasing route or eligible payment method.

If the message is “Something went wrong on our end. Select Place order to try again,” first check whether an order was created before resubmitting it. For a persistent checkout error, contact Microsoft billing support through your organization's normal support route; for a card-status or authentication question, contact Coinepay support. Keep a record of the error text, time and order status.

Manage renewals, invoices and cancellation

Self-service purchases renew automatically at the end of their subscription term. In the Microsoft 365 admin center, find a self-service subscription under Billing → Your products → Self-service; invoices and cards are under Billing → Bills & payments. A self-service buyer can open the subscription and use More actions → Cancel subscription. Merely unassigning a user's license is not the same as cancelling the subscription.

Before cancelling, read the terms for your actual agreement and purchase channel. Microsoft's business-subscription cancellation and credit rules differ by agreement, and an annual commitment paid monthly may still be payable for its term. If an administrator or reseller bought the license, ask that purchaser to check the applicable billing and cancellation options. You can manage your Coinepay card separately in the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app, but card management does not cancel a Microsoft subscription.

FAQ

Can I sign up for Power BI Pro with a personal email address?

Power BI service self-sign-up requires a work or school email address. Ask your organization about access if you only have a personal email.

Will a Coinepay virtual card work at Power BI Pro checkout?

Do not assume it will. Microsoft specifies credit cards for self-service checkout, requires a payment method issued in the tenant's country or region for business accounts, and does not accept prepaid cards. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the requirements before buying.

Why is the checkout total different from the displayed monthly price?

Microsoft's displayed Pro rate may be per user per month paid yearly. Check the license quantity, billing term, applicable taxes and actual total shown before placing the order.

Where can I cancel a self-service Power BI Pro purchase?

In the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Billing → Your products → Self-service, open the subscription, then choose More actions → Cancel subscription. Check your purchase terms for billing consequences.
