You can use a Coinepay virtual card to attempt a web subscription to Perplexity Max, Perplexity’s individual plan above Pro. This guide covers what to check before paying, the web checkout steps, and what to do if your card is declined. A payment remains subject to Perplexity’s checkout requirements and the card issuer’s approval.

What you need before subscribing

  • A Perplexity account. Sign in to your existing account or create one on Perplexity’s official site. Individual customers can upgrade from Standard (Free) or Perplexity Pro to Perplexity Max. Enterprise Max is a separate business tier.
  • A Coinepay virtual card. Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. Once issued, your virtual card has a card number, expiry date and CVV, available through Coinepay’s self-service tools.
  • Enough funds for the amount shown at checkout. At the time of writing (October 2026), Perplexity lists Max at $200 per month or $2,000 per year. The annual option is available only on the web. These are published U.S.-dollar prices, not a quote for every location; taxes and the amount presented at checkout may differ. Check Perplexity’s official pricing page before confirming.
  • Your real billing details. Use your own name and an accurate billing address. Check that the country and other details you enter meet the checkout’s requirements; do not substitute an address from another region to try to make a payment pass.

Perplexity’s consumer billing guidance lists Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit or debit cards among its payment methods. That does not establish that a particular virtual card qualifies or will be accepted. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the applicable card requirements before you buy. If Perplexity presents a country-specific requirement, check it directly with Perplexity as well.

How to pay for Perplexity Max on the web

  1. Prepare your card. Open the Coinepay app or dashboard and locate your virtual card’s number, expiry date and CVV. Review the amount you expect to pay, allowing for the checkout total rather than relying on the published plan price alone.
  2. Sign in to Perplexity in a browser. Use the account that should receive Max access. If you already pay for Pro, first determine whether that subscription was purchased on the web or through an app store.
  3. Open the upgrade screen. In Perplexity, go to Settings → Account → Subscription → Upgrade Plan. Select Perplexity Max, not Enterprise Max or the separately billed API Platform.
  4. Choose the billing option. Review the monthly option or, on the web, the annual option. Read the displayed total, billing currency, taxes if applicable, and renewal terms. Where Perplexity offers a choice between USD and a local currency, consider it before confirming: Perplexity says the chosen currency carries over to renewals. For recurring web subscriptions in India, Perplexity specifies USD-only billing rather than INR.
  5. Complete the Stripe checkout page. Enter the Coinepay card details and your accurate billing information in the payment fields presented. If checkout requests an additional authentication step, follow the legitimate on-screen instructions. Review the final amount before submitting the payment.
  6. Confirm the result. Wait for checkout to report success, then check your Perplexity account’s Subscription section for the active plan. Do not repeatedly submit a payment merely because the page is slow; first check whether the subscription or a charge is already visible.

If you have a web-billed Pro subscription, upgrade to Max on the web rather than starting an upgrade in the mobile app. Perplexity says a web upgrade carries over the remaining balance and bills a prorated amount; using the app can instead create a separate subscription. An App Store or Google Play purchase is billed and managed in that store, not in Perplexity’s web billing portal. Check where your current subscription is billed before changing it.

Why might a Perplexity Max card payment be declined?

A decline does not, by itself, identify the cause. Read the message shown at checkout, check whether any charge or subscription was created, and then work through the relevant possibilities below. Avoid making multiple rapid attempts while the outcome is unclear.

Insufficient funds or a higher-than-expected total

Compare the funds available for the card with the final checkout amount, not just Max’s advertised price. Taxes or a different displayed billing currency can change what you need to cover. If the amount is higher than expected, return to the plan selection and review the billing interval and currency. Use the Coinepay app or dashboard for information about your funds; contact Coinepay support if you cannot determine why a charge was refused.

Billing address or card details do not match

Re-enter the card number, expiry date and CVV carefully, and check the billing name, address and postal code against your real details. If the form flags a field, correct that field rather than changing your country to one where you do not live. If your billing information needs updating after a successful web purchase, look under Account/Settings → Subscription → Manage Plan or Manage Subscription → Billing and Shipping Information.

An authentication or 3-D Secure step fails

If checkout asks you to verify the payment, complete the prompt using the method legitimately offered for your card. A closed verification window, expired prompt or failed approval can prevent checkout from finishing. Start a fresh checkout session if needed, but first confirm that the previous attempt did not create a subscription or charge. If you never receive an expected authentication prompt, ask Coinepay support what verification applies to your card; if the checkout itself will not proceed, contact Perplexity support.

Merchant region or card-eligibility checks

Perplexity may apply payment-method, billing-country or service-availability checks. Its terms also restrict use involving embargoed locations and restricted parties. A card payment cannot override those rules. Use accurate account and billing information, review any restriction displayed at checkout, and ask Perplexity support whether the subscription is available for your circumstances. If the message points to a card-type requirement, ask Coinepay support whether your card meets it before another purchase attempt. Neither support team can promise that a payment will be approved.

Manage billing after you subscribe

For a web-billed Max subscription, go to Account/Settings → Subscription → Manage Plan or Manage Subscription to find billing information and Invoice History. To stop renewal, use Manage Subscription → Cancel subscription. Ordinary cancellation leaves access through the current billing period; deleting your Perplexity account does not cancel billing. If you bought through the App Store or Google Play, manage the subscription and payment method in the store where you purchased it.

Check Perplexity’s refund terms promptly if you need a refund, as eligibility depends on purchase location and timing. For web purchases, Perplexity describes a route through Manage Subscription → Cancel Plan → request a refund, or Help → Contact Support when the refund option is absent. Refund requests for store purchases follow the applicable store or Perplexity support process. If a Coinepay card charge appears but Max access does not, save the checkout message and transaction details and contact Perplexity support before trying to pay again.
