Neon is a Postgres database platform with Free, Launch, and Scale plans. If you want to pay for a Neon organization with a Coinepay virtual card, the key is to add the card to the correct organization’s billing settings and keep it ready for usage-based monthly charges. This guide covers the setup, checkout, and what to check if a payment fails.

What you need before you start

  • A Neon account and the right organization: Sign up through Neon’s official site and use the Neon Console to select the organization you intend to bill. You can start on Free without a credit card. To manage billing or pay an invoice, make sure you have the necessary organization permissions.
  • A Coinepay account: Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. Your card number, expiry date, and CVV are available when your virtual card is issued; you can manage the card in the Coinepay app or self-service dashboard.
  • Accurate billing details and available funds: Enter your real name and billing information. Check the funds available for the card in Coinepay, and remember that a paid Neon plan can generate charges after the month in which you use it.

At the time of writing (October 2026), Neon lists Free at US$0 per month, Launch compute at US$0.106 per compute-unit hour, and Scale compute at US$0.222 per compute-unit hour. Launch and Scale also list database storage at US$0.35 per GB-month. These are usage rates, not a fixed monthly subscription total; check Neon’s official pricing page for current rates and other chargeable usage before choosing a plan. Neon also describes an Agent Plan for qualifying agent platforms, but the steps below concern its standard self-service plans.

How to sign up and add your Coinepay card

  1. Create or access your Neon account. Go to Neon’s official site, follow its Console sign-up flow, and complete the account steps shown there. If you are still evaluating Neon, you can begin on Free without adding a card.
  2. Choose the organization you want to pay for. In the Neon Console, open the profile menu at the top right and select the relevant organization. Check its name before making billing changes, particularly if you belong to more than one organization.
  3. Review the plan. Open Billing → Change plan to compare or change tiers. Review the current pricing and any estimate Neon displays before selecting Launch or Scale. Because paid-plan fees depend on usage, plan selection does not by itself establish your final monthly bill.
  4. Open the payment-method settings. For the selected organization, go to Billing → Payment info → Payment method → Edit. Follow the secure payment flow presented by Neon; Neon says its billing system uses Stripe Checkout.
  5. Enter your virtual card details. Copy the card number, expiry date, and CVV from Coinepay. Provide your genuine billing details as requested in checkout, review the information, and submit it. If the checkout asks you to authenticate the payment, complete the prompt rather than closing it.
  6. Confirm the result in Neon. Return to the organization’s Billing area and check whether the payment method appears to have been updated. If you changed plans, verify the plan shown there as well. Do not assume an unsuccessful checkout saved the card.

Neon calculates self-service fees from usage, invoices monthly in arrears, and automatically charges the payment card on record on or around the first of the following month. Keep enough funds available when that charge is due, not just when you enter the card. Use Neon’s billing information to monitor charges and the Coinepay app or dashboard to check your card. The appearance of a saved payment method does not guarantee that every future charge will succeed.

How to pay an unpaid Neon invoice

If an automatic payment fails, Neon may request an updated payment method. An organization admin can open Billing → View/Pay invoices → Pay invoice to reach the secure payment page for an unpaid invoice. Review the invoice and use the payment options offered on that page. After submitting payment, check the invoice’s status in Neon rather than repeatedly paying while an earlier attempt may still be processing.

Important for customers in India: Neon says its Stripe Checkout setup does not support the e-mandates needed for automatic recurring payments by Indian customers. If an automatic payment fails for this reason, ask Neon support for an invoice link to pay manually. Adding a different card should not be treated as a way around the applicable recurring-payment requirements. Use your real billing details and follow the payment process Neon provides.

Why a Neon card payment might be declined

Neon documents failed automatic debits but does not publish a definitive list of card-decline messages. The checks below are troubleshooting possibilities, not a diagnosis of a particular decline. Start with any explanation shown by Neon’s checkout, your invoice, or Coinepay, and avoid repeated submissions until you know what to change.

Possible causeWhat to check next
Insufficient available fundsCheck the amount due in Neon and the funds available for the card in Coinepay. Usage-based invoices may be larger than an earlier month’s charge. If you need information about card funding or applicable limits, check the Coinepay app or contact Coinepay support.
Billing details do not matchRecheck the name, address, postal code, and other fields requested by checkout. Correct typing mistakes and use your real billing information; do not substitute a fabricated address to make a payment go through.
Authentication was not completedIf checkout presents a 3-D Secure or other authentication step, follow its instructions and wait for a clear result before retrying. If no prompt appears or it fails, ask Coinepay support whether there is an authentication issue with your card, and give Neon support the checkout outcome if needed.
Merchant or regional payment checksConfirm that your Neon account and billing details comply with Neon’s requirements. Payment methods and regional rules can affect checkout; contact Neon support about its payment requirements and Coinepay support about your card. Do not use a false location or other workaround.
Card information changed or expiredCompare the saved payment method with the current details in Coinepay. If necessary, return to Billing → Payment info → Payment method → Edit and update it through Neon’s checkout.

When contacting support, provide the organization name, invoice reference if applicable, the time of the attempt, and the exact error you saw. Do not send your full card number or CVV in a support message. If a payment method cannot be added, ask Neon which requirements apply to its checkout and ask Coinepay support to help investigate the card side.

How to stop future paid-plan charges

Neon’s Console guidance says to downgrade an organization to Free to prevent further paid-plan charges. First remove resources that exceed Free plan limits, then use Billing → Change plan to downgrade and verify the result. Deleting projects alone is not Neon’s documented way to cancel a paid plan.

Plan changes and cancellation may also be subject to Neon’s current terms: its October 2026 platform terms describe a 14-business-day advance cancellation requirement for monthly self-service subscriptions. Review the terms and your billing status well before the end of a subscription month, and ask Neon support if you are unsure when a change takes effect or whether an invoice remains payable. Do not assume a downgrade automatically refunds charges already incurred.

FAQ

Do I need a card to start using Neon?

No. Neon says its Free plan does not require a credit card. Review billing requirements in the Console when you move to a paid plan.

Where do I change the card used for Neon billing?

In Neon Console, select the organization from the top-right profile menu, then go to Billing → Payment info → Payment method → Edit.

When does Neon charge for Launch or Scale?

Neon calculates self-service fees from usage, invoices monthly in arrears, and automatically charges the card on record on or around the first of the following month.

What if my Neon invoice was not paid automatically?

An organization admin can go to Billing → View/Pay invoices → Pay invoice. If you are an Indian customer affected by recurring-payment e-mandate requirements, ask Neon support for a manual invoice link.
