You can enter a Coinepay virtual card when paying for a KLM flight, subject to the payment options shown for your booking and the usual card checks. This guide covers what to prepare, how to complete KLM checkout, and what to do if a payment does not go through. KLM tickets are one-time purchases, not subscriptions; the separate Flying Blue Extra subscription is covered below.

Before you book

Register for Coinepay and complete identity verification before using its card services. You can manage your card through the Coinepay app or 24/7 self-service dashboard. Once your virtual card is issued, its card number, expiry date and CVV are available immediately. If you have not registered, start at Coinepay registration.

Have your passenger details, travel dates and genuine billing details ready. Enter each passenger’s name as required by their travel documents, and use your real billing information at checkout. Make sure you have enough available funds for the full amount KLM displays, including applicable taxes, fees and any extras you select. The final amount can change as you adjust your itinerary or add options, so check it immediately before paying.

KLM’s payment methods depend on the country, how close you are to departure, and whether you book on its website or app. Its published flight-checkout card list includes American Express, Diners Club, Discover, JCB, Maestro, Mastercard, Visa, Visa Electron and UATP/AirPlus, among others. That list does not establish which methods will appear for your particular booking or whether a particular card will be accepted. Check the options displayed at checkout. If you need to confirm your Coinepay card details or eligibility for a payment requirement, contact Coinepay support before you buy.

Step by step: pay for a KLM ticket

  1. Search for flights on KLM. On KLM’s official website or app, enter your origin, destination, dates and number of travelers. Select the flight that suits your schedule and review its itinerary carefully.
  2. Choose a fare. KLM offers Economy Basic on selected routes and Economy Light, Standard and Flex on most routes. Premium Comfort and Business Class tickets may also be available. Compare the baggage, change and cancellation conditions shown for the specific fare rather than assuming every ticket in a cabin has the same rules.
  3. Enter traveler details and choose extras. Follow the booking prompts, using accurate names and contact information. Review any optional services before adding them; they affect the amount due.
  4. Review the total. KLM displays the applicable fare, taxes and fees during checkout. There is no booking fee for booking on klm.com, but the overall ticket price varies by itinerary and booking. Check the currency, amount, passengers, flights and fare conditions before continuing.
  5. Select a card payment option if one is offered. Enter your Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date and CVV exactly as displayed in Coinepay. Provide your real billing details, and check every field for typing errors before submitting.
  6. Complete any authentication prompt. Some card purchases require 3-D Secure authentication provided by the card issuer. Follow the on-screen instructions and do not close the checkout while authentication is in progress. If the prompt fails or never appears, use the troubleshooting steps below.
  7. Verify the booking. Wait for KLM’s payment and booking confirmation rather than assuming a submitted form—or a temporary card authorization—means the ticket was issued. KLM’s confirmation email and My Trip show the price breakdown. Check that the trip appears there and that the passenger and flight details are correct.

If you want to save a preferred payment method for a later KLM purchase, KLM says its account profile can store or delete one preferred method. You do not need to save a card to follow the booking steps above.

Is Flying Blue Extra the same as a KLM ticket?

No. Flying Blue is the loyalty program associated with KLM, while Flying Blue Extra Essential and Flying Blue Extra Extended are separate paid benefit bundles. Neither bundle is a flight ticket. Explorer, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Ultimate are Flying Blue loyalty status levels, not Extra subscription choices. Likewise, Light, Standard and Flex describe ticket fares, not Extra plans.

To subscribe to Extra, use Flying Blue’s official website, sign in to your Flying Blue account, compare Essential and Extended, and follow the online subscription checkout. Each bundle lasts 12 months; Flying Blue says benefits appear in the member account within 24 hours. At the time of writing (October 2026), Flying Blue’s Spain-localized page showed Essential at €379 per year and Extended at €699 per year. Those are Spain-page subscription prices, not KLM airfares or quotes for other markets. Check Flying Blue’s official pricing page for the price and availability applicable to you.

Flying Blue Extra’s published terms specify payment in full before the subscription begins, by credit card or PayPal. Do not assume that a Coinepay virtual card satisfies the credit-card requirement. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets it before you buy, and check the options presented by Flying Blue at checkout. KLM’s broader flight-checkout payment list should not be treated as a list of methods accepted for Extra.

If your KLM card payment is declined

A declined payment does not, by itself, identify the cause. Work through these checks without repeatedly submitting the same purchase while its status is unclear:

  • Insufficient available funds: Compare the available amount shown in Coinepay with KLM’s final checkout total, including taxes and selected extras. If the amounts differ or you see a pending authorization, check the card activity in Coinepay before trying again. KLM notes that a bank may place an authorization hold before a charge is finalized; a hold alone is not proof of a confirmed booking.
  • Billing-detail mismatch: Recheck the card number, expiry date and CVV, then review the billing name and address you entered. Use real details and correct mistakes rather than entering an unrelated address to try to make a payment pass.
  • 3-D Secure did not complete: Follow any authentication request through to its result. If it times out, fails or does not open, check your Coinepay app or dashboard for information and ask Coinepay support for help with the card-side check. Return to KLM only after you know whether the first attempt resulted in a booking.
  • Country or merchant checks: KLM varies its available payment methods by country and booking channel. Use your actual country and billing details, and look at the methods offered for your itinerary. If a card option is unavailable or a transaction is declined after your details are correct, ask KLM about the booking-side result and Coinepay support about any card-side decline information. Do not try to bypass regional or payment restrictions.
  • Checkout page problem: If payment fields do not load, try KLM’s other official booking channel or return later. First check your email and My Trip so you do not accidentally purchase the same ticket twice.

If you have a booking reference but no clear payment confirmation, check My Trip and contact KLM before making another booking. Tell Coinepay support the attempted amount, currency, time and any displayed error if you need help investigating the card transaction. Do not share your full card number or CVV in a support message.

Changes, refunds and subscription cancellation

Read the conditions attached to your exact KLM fare before paying. KLM says voluntary cancellation of Economy and Premium Comfort Light and Standard tickets is generally non-refundable; Flex refund conditions depend on the fare. Unused airport taxes may be recoverable. If your plans change, check your booking in My Trip for its applicable conditions and next steps.

Flying Blue Extra follows different rules. Its published terms say it does not renew automatically and ordinarily cannot be canceled during its one-year term; unused benefits are non-refundable. For an online purchase, the terms provide a 14-day withdrawal period from the start of the subscription period if no benefits have been used. The request goes through Flying Blue contact using its cancellation form, with reimbursement to the original payment method; issuance fees may still apply. Review the current terms before subscribing, particularly if you expect to use a benefit soon after purchase.

FAQ

Can I pay for a KLM ticket with a Coinepay virtual card?

Enter the card details if an applicable card option appears at KLM checkout. Acceptance depends on the booking and payment checks; confirm the result in KLM’s confirmation email and My Trip.

Why do I see an authorization but no KLM confirmation?

An authorization hold is not proof that a ticket was issued. Check your email and My Trip, then ask KLM about the booking and Coinepay support about the card activity before trying again.

Can I use the same card for Flying Blue Extra?

Flying Blue Extra’s terms specify credit card or PayPal payment. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the credit-card requirement before purchasing; check Flying Blue’s checkout options.

Does Flying Blue Extra renew automatically?

Its published terms say no. Each Essential or Extended subscription lasts 12 months; review the current terms before you subscribe.
