You can enter a Coinepay virtual card at Claude.ai’s web checkout when subscribing to an eligible paid plan. Before you start, check Claude’s location and payment requirements, then review the price shown at checkout. Card acceptance is subject to Anthropic’s payment checks and is not guaranteed.
What you need before subscribing
- A Claude account in a supported location. Anthropic requires users to be physically in a location where Claude is available. Creating an account for a paid plan also requires a phone number from a supported location. Check Claude’s current location list rather than assuming access is worldwide.
- A Coinepay account and virtual card. Register and complete identity verification before using Coinepay card services. Your virtual card number, expiry date and CVV are available after issuance. You can manage the card in the Coinepay app or 24/7 self-service dashboard.
- Your real billing information. Use your actual name and billing address, and check that the details you enter are consistent with those associated with your payment method.
- An eligible payment method. Anthropic says web-bought individual subscriptions accept credit or debit cards only; PayPal and Venmo are not direct payment options. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets Claude’s requirement before you buy. A virtual card number alone does not establish that checkout will accept a payment.
Choose the web checkout at claude.ai if you intend to enter your Coinepay card there. Subscriptions purchased through the iOS or Android Claude app are billed through the respective app store, whose payment options and subscription controls differ from Claude’s web checkout.
Choose a Claude plan and check its price
Claude’s individual plans are Free, Pro, Max 5x and Max 20x. Pro offers monthly or annual billing; the two Max tiers are monthly, with no annual Max option. At the time of writing (October 2026), Anthropic listed U.S. web prices of $20 per month or $200 per year paid upfront for Pro, $100 per month for Max 5x, and $200 per month for Max 20x. Free was listed at $0. These are not promises of the price in your location: regional pricing varies, and tax may be included in the displayed price or added at checkout. Check Claude’s official pricing page and the final checkout total before subscribing.
If you are purchasing for an organization, do not treat an individual Pro or Max checkout as a Team purchase. Claude’s Team plan uses Standard and Premium seats, and a Team Owner or Primary Owner manages billing under Organization settings → Billing. This guide’s checkout steps focus on individual web subscriptions.
How to pay for Claude Pro on the web
- Prepare your card. In the Coinepay app or dashboard, find your virtual card number, expiry date and CVV. Check that you have enough available funds for the amount Claude shows at checkout, including any tax shown there.
- Sign in or create your Claude account. Go to claude.ai and continue with email or Google. Complete Claude’s account requirements using your real information.
- Open the Pro upgrade. In Claude, select Settings → Billing → Upgrade plan → Get Pro plan.
- Choose your billing period. Select monthly or annual billing. Read the amount and billing frequency displayed for your location; annual Pro billing is paid upfront.
- Enter your payment details. Type the Coinepay card number, expiry date and CVV into Claude’s checkout, along with your accurate billing details. Review the total before proceeding.
- Complete any verification and subscribe. If checkout presents a security challenge, follow its instructions. Select Subscribe to submit the purchase, then check Claude’s Billing page for the resulting subscription and invoice.
If you need to create a Coinepay account first, you can register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before accessing card services. Do not repeatedly submit a payment if its status is unclear; first check Claude’s Billing page and your Coinepay card activity.
How to pay for Claude Max
New Claude users may be offered Max during onboarding. Choose 5x or 20x and review the monthly price before entering payment details. If you already have a Claude account, go to Settings → Billing → Upgrade to Max, select the tier offered in the flow, provide payment information where required, and confirm the change. Read the checkout summary carefully if you are changing from an existing paid plan so you understand the amount Claude will charge.
What to do if your card is declined
A message such as “Payment failed. Please try again later” or “Your card has been declined” does not identify a specific cause. Users have reported these messages, but you need to check the payment details and, when necessary, ask the relevant support team to investigate. Work through these checks one at a time:
- Insufficient funds: Compare your available card funds with Claude’s full checkout total, including any applicable tax. If the card balance is too low, add funds through the options available in your Coinepay account before retrying. Check the app or contact support for account-specific funding details.
- Billing-address mismatch: Re-enter your real billing name, address and postal code carefully. Correct mistakes rather than substituting an address in another country. Also verify the card number, expiry date and CVV.
- Incomplete 3-D Secure verification: If a verification prompt appears, finish it before returning to checkout. If it times out or does not complete, check for an outstanding prompt and ask Coinepay support for help with the card-side result. Do not assume the subscription started until Claude confirms it.
- Merchant location checks: Anthropic identifies unsupported card-origin or billing locations as possible decline reasons. Confirm that you are physically in a Claude-supported location and that your account and billing details meet its requirements. Coinepay cannot bypass Claude’s regional rules; if you are unsure whether your card meets a location requirement, contact Coinepay support before another attempt.
- Payment-method or temporary issue: Claude’s web checkout accepts credit or debit cards only. If you have confirmed the details and funds but payment still fails, contact Coinepay support about the decline and Claude support about any checkout error. A temporary checkout problem is also possible, so check for an existing charge or subscription before trying again.
Manage billing after purchase
For Pro or Max bought on Claude’s website, open Settings → Billing to find invoices or use Update to change payment details. If you no longer want the plan, use Settings → Billing → Cancel. Anthropic says cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid billing period; cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing date to avoid renewal. If you subscribed through an app store instead, manage cancellation and payment details through that store.
Anthropic says payments are generally non-refundable unless its terms or applicable law provide otherwise. Eligible web purchasers can seek help through Claude’s Get help → Claude Refund Request flow. If you have a billing dispute, keep your Claude invoice, the displayed checkout total and relevant Coinepay transaction details available when contacting support.
