The Apple App Store is where you download games and apps and pay for their in-app purchases and subscriptions. Whether you are buying a one-time game, a non-consumable unlock or an auto-renewing subscription, the charge is billed through your Apple Account using the payment method on file. This guide shows you how to set up a Coinepay virtual card as that payment method, complete a purchase, and work through the most common reasons a card is declined.
Before you start, note that Apple lists "most credit and debit cards" as accepted but does not publish a complete accepted-card or prepaid-card list by market, so acceptance of any specific card depends on your card and your account region. If you want to confirm your card meets Apple's requirements before you buy, contact Coinepay support.
What you need before you start
- A verified Coinepay account. Register at the Coinepay sign-up page and complete identity verification (KYC) before you can use card services.
- A Coinepay virtual card issued from your dashboard, with its card number, expiry date and CVV visible in the iOS or Android app.
- Available balance on the card to cover the purchase.
- An Apple Account set to a country or region where the app and payment method you want are available.
- Your real billing details — use the same name and address that match your Coinepay account.
Services related to virtual assets are not available to residents of mainland China, and some services are not available in every jurisdiction. Card issuance and fund services are provided by licensed partner financial institutions.
Step 1: Create or sign in to your Apple Account
Open the App Store and create a free Apple Account if you do not have one. During setup you choose a country or region and verify your email. Apple lets you select "None" as the payment method at this stage and says you are not charged until you make a purchase, so you can finish creating the account first and add your card later.
Make sure the country or region on your Apple Account is accurate for where you live. App, media-service and payment-method availability varies by country, and a developer can also choose where its subscription is sold — so your account region affects both what you can buy and which cards are accepted.
Step 2: Add your Coinepay virtual card
On an iPhone or iPad, add or update your payment details at Settings → [your name] → Payment & Shipping. Then:
- Tap Add Payment Method.
- Choose the card option and enter your Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date and CVV exactly as they appear in the Coinepay app.
- Enter the billing name and address that match your Coinepay account details. A mismatch here is a common cause of declines.
- Save the method. Apple may run a small temporary authorization to check the card is valid.
Depending on your region, Apple's listed payment methods include Apple Account balance, Apple Pay, most credit and debit cards and PayPal; the US list also mentions Apple Card and Apple Cash, and the UK lists mobile-phone billing. You add a standard card under the credit/debit card option.
Step 3: Buy an app, game or subscription
Find the game or app you want. Apps may be free or paid, and paid content comes in three forms: auto-renewing subscriptions, one-time non-consumables and consumables.
- Paid app: Tap the displayed price, then confirm.
- Free app: Tap Get.
- In-app purchase or subscription: These are offered inside the app itself. Open the app and select the subscription tier or item.
Confirm the purchase by authenticating with your Apple Account password, Touch ID or Face ID. The charge is billed to the Coinepay card on file. Because each developer names and prices its own subscriptions, there are no store-wide App Store plan names — check the price shown in the app before you confirm, as developers can set prices by country or region.
If an app bills its purchase outside Apple's In-App Purchase system, Apple's subscription management and refund support do not apply to it. In that case, manage and cancel through the developer or its billing provider directly.
Step 4: Manage renewals and subscriptions
Auto-renewing subscriptions keep renewing until you cancel. To review or cancel them on iPhone, go to Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, tap the subscription, then tap Cancel Subscription. If you are on a free trial, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends to avoid the first charge.
One recent change to be aware of: on April 27, 2026, Apple introduced an optional monthly subscription with a 12-month commitment. With this type, canceling stops the next commitment rather than the remaining monthly payments, so you continue paying out the current year. Apple lists the US and Singapore as excluded from this option. Check the subscription terms shown before you buy so you know which type you are agreeing to.
Tip: set a per-card spending cap in your Coinepay dashboard so a renewing subscription never charges more than you expect.
Troubleshooting a declined card
If a purchase fails, work through these common causes.
Insufficient balance
Apple names insufficient funds as a possible failed-charge reason. Open the Coinepay app and confirm the card has enough available balance to cover the full price plus any applicable tax, then retry.
Billing address or details mismatch
If the name or billing address on your Apple Account does not match your Coinepay card details, the charge can be refused. Re-check every field under Settings → [your name] → Payment & Shipping against what is shown in the Coinepay app and correct any difference.
Expired card
Apple identifies expired cards as a failure reason. If your virtual card has reached its expiry date, issue or check for a current card in Coinepay and update the number, expiry and CVV in Apple's payment settings.
"Billing problem with a previous purchase" or "Verification required"
Apple documents these messages as signs of an unpaid balance that can block new purchases, free-app downloads and subscriptions. Settle any outstanding amount and update your payment method, then try again.
3-D Secure and bank authorization
Some purchases trigger an extra verification step from the card issuer. Approve any prompt that appears, and make sure you can receive confirmations on the device or channel tied to your Coinepay account.
Region and international-purchase checks
Apple says the card issuer — not Apple — can explain a specific decline, and that permission for international purchases may be relevant. If the card keeps failing and your balance and details are correct, contact Coinepay support to confirm the card works for this merchant and your account region. You can also reach the team via Telegram.
Refunds
Canceling a subscription does not by itself make you eligible for a refund. To request one, go to reportaproblem.apple.com, select the purchase and choose a reason. Apple says some purchases may qualify and that eligibility varies by region. Refunds are handled by Apple, not Coinepay.
Keep your card and account secure
Use your real identity and real billing details throughout — do not attempt to work around Apple's regional or payment checks. Manage your card limits, freeze or replace cards, and watch transactions from the 24/7 Coinepay self-service dashboard or mobile app, so you always know what the App Store is charging.

FAQ
Can I use a Coinepay virtual card for the Apple App Store?
Apple accepts "most credit and debit cards" but does not publish a complete accepted-card list by market, so acceptance depends on your card and account region. Add the card under Settings → [your name] → Payment & Shipping, and contact Coinepay support if you want to confirm it meets Apple's requirements before buying.
Where do I add or change my card for App Store purchases?
On iPhone or iPad, go to Settings → [your name] → Payment & Shipping to add or update payment details. Enter your Coinepay card number, expiry and CVV exactly as shown in the Coinepay app, with a billing name and address that match your account.
Why was my card declined at the App Store?
Common causes are insufficient balance, a billing address mismatch, an expired card, an unpaid balance (shown as "billing problem with a previous purchase" or "verification required"), or a 3-D Secure step. Apple says your card issuer can explain a specific decline; check your balance and details in the Coinepay app, then contact support if it continues.
How do I cancel an App Store subscription billed to my card?
Go to Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, tap the subscription, then Cancel Subscription. Cancel a free trial at least 24 hours before it ends to avoid the first charge. Note that for the newer monthly subscription with a 12-month commitment, canceling stops the next commitment rather than the remaining monthly payments.
Can I get a refund if I was charged by mistake?
Canceling does not itself guarantee a refund. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com by selecting the purchase and a reason. Apple says some purchases may qualify, with eligibility varying by region. Refunds are handled by Apple, not Coinepay.
