TNM Mpamba is a mobile-money wallet used in Malawi, where payouts are made in Malawian kwacha (MWK). If you have family, friends or a business partner there, Coinepay Global Remittance lets you send money straight to their Mpamba wallet from almost anywhere in the world. This guide walks through the details you need to collect, the step-by-step sending flow, how your recipient sees the money arrive, and what to do if something goes wrong.
Before you start
TNM Mpamba is operated by TNM Mpamba Limited and is one of Malawi's main mobile wallets. Because Malawi's wallets are interoperable, sending to Mpamba is a different payout from sending to Airtel Money — so make sure you select the Mpamba option specifically in the sending flow, not a lookalike.
To send with Coinepay, first make sure you are set up:
- Register for an account and complete identity verification (KYC). You can create your Coinepay account or manage everything from the iOS app or Android app.
- Use your own real identity and billing details. Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations.
- Have your recipient's wallet details ready (see below).
What you need from your recipient
Accuracy here matters, because mobile-money credits are fast and a completed transfer to the wrong wallet is not guaranteed to reverse. Collect:
- The registered Mpamba phone number. TNM mobile numbers are written as 088 XXX XXXX inside Malawi, or +265 88 XXX XXXX in international format. Confirm the recipient's actual registered wallet number rather than assuming from the prefix.
- The recipient's full name exactly as registered on the Mpamba account. Malawi's e-money rules call for name-and-number verification where feasible, so a mismatch between the name you enter and the name on the wallet can hold up or block the payout.
- The destination country (Malawi) and payout currency (MWK).
If your recipient isn't sure their number is registered for Mpamba, they can register by dialing *444# on their TNM line and following the prompts. Note that registering for mobile money does not replace SIM registration — those are separate.
Step-by-step: sending to a TNM Mpamba wallet
- Open Coinepay and start a new transfer. In the app or dashboard, choose to send money and select Malawi as the destination country.
- Choose the mobile wallet payout method and pick TNM Mpamba. Select mobile wallet delivery in Malawian kwacha, then choose Mpamba specifically — not cash pickup, bank deposit or another wallet.
- Enter the amount. You can usually enter the amount you want to send or the amount you want the recipient to receive in MWK.
- Add the recipient's details. Enter the registered Mpamba phone number in full international format and the recipient's full name exactly as it appears on their wallet.
- Review the exchange rate and fees. Coinepay shows the exchange rate, the fees and the estimated arrival time clearly on screen before you confirm. Check the figures and the recipient name and number carefully.
- Confirm and pay. Once you confirm, Coinepay processes the transfer and generates a reference number for tracking.
Coinepay may ask for supporting documents — for example the purpose of the transfer or the source of funds — as part of its compliance checks. Providing these promptly helps your transfer clear without delay.
Tracking the transfer
Every Coinepay transfer has a status you can follow in the app or dashboard, from processing through to paid out. Keep the reference number in case you need to contact support or your recipient needs to raise a query with Mpamba. You'll be notified as the status changes.
How fast does it arrive?
Transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual time depends on the payout method and the destination country. The estimated arrival time for your specific transfer is shown in the app before you confirm, so check that estimate rather than assuming a fixed time.
How your recipient sees the money arrive
When the payout completes, the funds are credited to the recipient's Mpamba wallet balance in kwacha. Under Malawi's e-money rules, providers notify the customer of a successful transaction and keep a transaction record showing the amount, time, any charges and a reference number. Your recipient can check their balance and transaction history on their TNM line, typically via the *444# menu.
Wallet limits and verification
Mpamba wallets are subject to limits set by Malawian regulation, and these can change. In its November 2025 budget statement, Malawi's Ministry of Finance announced increases to mobile-money limits with immediate effect — raising the daily mobile-money transaction limit, the individual wallet holding (balance) limit, and the daily cash-out limit. These are separate limits and are not a guaranteed amount for any single transfer.
Important for receiving money: an incoming person-to-person payment counts toward the recipient's wallet-balance limit, not their daily outgoing-transaction limit. That means a wallet that is already near its holding limit may not be able to receive your transfer until the recipient cashes out or spends some balance. If you're sending a larger amount, it's worth asking your recipient to confirm they have room in their wallet.
Separately, Malawi introduced a levy on mobile-money transfers above a set threshold, paid by the sender, from late December 2025. For the current, exact limits, tiers and any applicable charges on the Mpamba side, your recipient should check with TNM Mpamba directly, as these figures change.
Troubleshooting
Wrong number entered
Double-check the number before you confirm. If you've already sent and the number was wrong, contact Coinepay support immediately with your reference number. Your recipient can also report a wrong-number transfer to Mpamba — its published contacts include 105 and +265 888 800 900. Be aware that automatic reversal of a completed wrong-number transfer is not guaranteed.
Name does not match the wallet
If the name you entered doesn't match the registered Mpamba account holder, the payout can be held or rejected. Ask your recipient for the exact name on their wallet and correct it, or contact Coinepay support to update the transfer.
Wallet limit reached
If the recipient's wallet is at or near its balance limit, the credit may be blocked. Ask them to cash out or spend some balance to free up room, then retry.
Unverified or lower-tier wallet
If the recipient's Mpamba registration isn't complete or sits at a lower tier, the amount they can hold or receive may be restricted. They can register or upgrade via *444# or by contacting TNM Mpamba.
Transfer rejected or delayed
A rejected transfer can be caused by an outgoing limit, insufficient room under the recipient's balance limit, or a service outage. Check the status and any error message against your transfer, and give it a little time if Mpamba's system is temporarily unavailable.
Compliance review
Coinepay screens customers and counterparties against sanctions lists and may request documents such as the purpose or source of funds. If your transfer is under review, respond to any requests quickly so it can continue. Coinepay cannot send to sanctioned persons or jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions.

FAQ
What details do I need to send money to a TNM Mpamba wallet?
You need the recipient's registered Mpamba phone number in international format (+265 88 XXX XXXX) and their full name exactly as registered on the Mpamba account. Select Malawi as the destination and TNM Mpamba mobile wallet as the payout method, with funds paid out in Malawian kwacha.
How long does a transfer to TNM Mpamba take?
Transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual time depends on the payout method and destination country. Coinepay shows the estimated arrival time before you confirm, and you can follow the status in the app.
Can I get my money back if I send to the wrong Mpamba number?
Contact Coinepay support immediately with your reference number, and ask your recipient to report the wrong-number transfer to Mpamba (105 or +265 888 800 900). Automatic reversal of a completed transfer is not guaranteed, so always verify the number before confirming.
Why can't my recipient receive the money even though their wallet is active?
An incoming payment counts toward the recipient's wallet-balance limit. If their wallet is at or near that limit, the credit can be blocked until they cash out or spend some balance. Lower verification tiers may also restrict how much they can hold.
What are the fees and exchange rate to send to TNM Mpamba?
Coinepay shows the exact exchange rate and fees clearly before you confirm the transfer. For Mpamba's own charges and current wallet limits, your recipient should check with TNM Mpamba directly, as these figures can change.
