Sending money to Tigo Pesa means sending it to a mobile-money wallet in Tanzania. The wallet is now called Mixx by Yas, although a remittance service may still display the older name, Tigo Pesa. With Coinepay Global Remittance, you can check the available payout options for Tanzania, review the transfer details and track its status after sending.

Before you start: confirm the wallet and recipient details

Tigo Pesa, now Mixx by Yas, is a Tanzanian mobile-money service. The recipient receives funds in Tanzanian shillings (TZS) in their registered wallet, rather than through a bank-account deposit. Ask the recipient to confirm that their account is registered with Mixx by Yas before you create a transfer.

Get these details directly from the recipient:

  • The wallet phone number or account ID: use the identifier requested by the payout form. Tanzania’s country code is +255, and national mobile numbers have nine digits. Follow the format shown in the Coinepay app rather than assuming whether to include a prefix.
  • The recipient’s full name: enter their first and last name exactly as registered on the wallet. Do not substitute a nickname, your own name or the name of someone who can access their phone.
  • Confirmation of the wallet provider: ask whether their account is Mixx by Yas, formerly Tigo Pesa. Tanzania has other mobile-wallet networks, so selecting the wrong provider could prevent delivery.

Have the recipient check their registered name and number in their wallet records if they are unsure. A working phone number alone does not establish that it belongs to the intended wallet holder. Use your own real identity and accurate transfer details; the recipient’s information should match their account.

How to send to a Tigo Pesa or Mixx by Yas wallet

  1. Sign in to Coinepay. Open the Coinepay app or self-service dashboard. If you are new, register with Coinepay and complete the identity-verification steps required for your transfer.
  2. Start a Global Remittance transfer. Choose the country you are sending from where prompted, then set the destination to Tanzania. Check that the recipient and transaction are eligible under the options presented in the app.
  3. Select a mobile-wallet payout. Look for Tigo Pesa or Mixx by Yas in the available wallet-provider list. The provider’s displayed name and availability can vary. Do not select a different wallet or a bank deposit just because the expected name is missing; contact Coinepay support if you cannot identify the correct payout option.
  4. Enter the recipient’s details. Add their registered wallet phone number or account ID in the format the form requests, then enter their full registered name. Review every digit, the provider and the spelling with the recipient before continuing.
  5. Review the quote and delivery estimate. The Coinepay app shows the exchange rate, fees and estimated arrival time before you confirm. Check the amount the recipient is expected to receive in TZS and make sure the details match what you intend to send.
  6. Confirm the transfer. Complete any on-screen authorization or document requests. Keep the transfer reference shown in Coinepay so you can identify the payment if you need help.
  7. Track its status. Open the transfer in the Coinepay app or dashboard to follow its progress. Tell the recipient to check their Mixx wallet when the transfer is shown as delivered.

Transfers can arrive in as little as 10 minutes, but the actual time depends on the payout method and destination country. Use the estimate displayed for your transfer, not a general delivery claim, when telling the recipient when to check.

How the recipient checks that the money arrived

The recipient should check the Mixx by Yas wallet associated with the number you entered. They can look at their balance and transaction history in the Mixx Super App or through the wallet access method they normally use. A wallet message or notification may also help them identify an incoming payment, but they should verify the transaction in their own account rather than relying solely on a message.

Ask them to compare the received amount and transaction details with the information you shared. If Coinepay shows a completed transfer but the recipient cannot find it, first confirm that they are checking the same registered wallet number and provider that you used. Keep the Coinepay reference and any relevant wallet transaction details available when contacting support. The recipient should not share their wallet PIN with you or anyone claiming to help trace the payment.

Wallet verification and limits

Mixx wallet accounts are subject to registration, identity-verification and transaction rules. Mixx publishes different conditions for fully registered accounts, including limits on how much a wallet can receive or hold. A recipient should not assume that an unverified or incompletely registered wallet has the same capacity as a fully registered one. Applicable limits may also affect whether a particular incoming transfer can be credited.

Before sending an unusually large amount, ask the recipient to check their current wallet status and applicable limits with Mixx by Yas. Check the transfer options presented in Coinepay as well. Do not split a payment to get around a wallet limit or a compliance check; resolve the underlying restriction before trying again. Coinepay may request documents about the purpose of the transfer or the source of funds, and transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations.

Troubleshooting a Tigo Pesa transfer

Wrong phone number or wallet provider

If you have not confirmed the transfer, go back and correct the number or select the proper provider. If you have already confirmed it, check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the reference and the details you entered. Do not send a second transfer until you understand what happened to the first. A correction or recovery cannot be assumed. Mixx’s self-reversal menu concerns transactions made from a Mixx wallet; it is not a substitute for reporting an international Coinepay payout problem to Coinepay.

Recipient name does not match

Ask the recipient for their full name exactly as recorded on their Mixx account, including the correct order and spelling. If a transfer is pending or rejected, follow the instructions shown in Coinepay or contact support before resubmitting it. Do not change the name to someone else’s merely to make a form accept it.

Wallet limit reached or wallet not verified

The recipient may need to complete Mixx registration or identity checks, or wait until their wallet can accept an incoming payment under its applicable limits. They should ask Mixx by Yas about their own account status. Check Coinepay for the transfer’s current status before making any new attempt; a pending transfer is not the same as a failed one.

Transfer is under review

Follow any request for information in the Coinepay app and provide accurate documents if asked. Screening and local rules can affect a transfer even when the wallet number is correct. Use status tracking or contact support for an update; do not use another person’s wallet to bypass a review.

Final check before confirming

For a Tigo Pesa payout, the essential match is Tanzania, the correct Mixx by Yas wallet, the recipient’s registered number and their exact registered name. Read the exchange-rate and fee information in Coinepay before confirming, then retain the transfer reference and track the payment until the recipient can verify it in their wallet.

FAQ

Is Tigo Pesa the same as Mixx by Yas?

Yes. The Tanzanian wallet formerly called Tigo Pesa is now Mixx by Yas. A payout list may still use the older name.

What currency will the recipient receive?

A Tanzanian Mixx by Yas wallet receives Tanzanian shillings (TZS). Review the recipient amount and exchange rate shown in Coinepay before confirming.

What if I entered the wrong Tigo Pesa number?

If you have not confirmed, correct it before sending. If you have confirmed, contact Coinepay support promptly with your transfer reference; do not assume the payment can be reversed.

Why has the recipient not received the transfer?

Check the Coinepay transfer status and confirm the registered wallet number, provider and name. Wallet verification, limits or a compliance review may also affect delivery.
