If someone in India asks you to send money to their Paytm account, first clarify where they expect the money to arrive. Paytm Wallet cannot receive new transfers from another person. Paytm’s current mobile-number and UPI transfers generally send money to a UPI-linked bank account instead. This guide explains how to check the recipient’s details, look for an eligible payout route in Coinepay Global Remittance and track your transfer without treating a Paytm Wallet top-up as an available option.
Can you send money directly to Paytm Wallet?
No. Paytm Wallet was a prepaid payment instrument issued by Paytm Payments Bank Limited (PPBL). Since March 15, 2024, PPBL wallets have not been allowed to accept top-ups or new transfers from other people; cashback and refunds are exceptions. The Reserve Bank of India subsequently cancelled PPBL’s banking licence effective at the close of business on April 24, 2026. Paytm says its separate app and UPI services continue through partner banks.
That distinction matters when choosing a payout method. A payment to a bank account that the recipient uses with Paytm UPI is not a deposit into Paytm Wallet. Do not select a payout merely because it has a Paytm-related label and assume it will fund the old wallet. Before confirming, check the destination account shown in Coinepay. If a Paytm mobile-wallet payout appears but its destination is unclear, ask Coinepay support whether that specific route is currently available and where it credits funds.
Where is Paytm used, and what currency should you expect?
Paytm is used in India, where the local currency is the Indian rupee (INR). Coinepay Global Remittance supports cross-border transfers and multiple currencies, but the payout methods available for a particular transfer must be checked in the app or self-service dashboard. Select India as the destination and review the payout currency and recipient details displayed for your chosen route before proceeding.
Coinepay can send to countries and regions other than those under comprehensive sanctions, subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Availability for a particular recipient and payout method is determined during the transfer process.
What details should you get from the recipient?
Ask the recipient to confirm whether they mean their old Paytm Wallet or a bank account linked to the Paytm app for UPI payments. If they mean the wallet, explain that it cannot accept a new person-to-person credit and ask for another eligible way to receive the transfer.
- For an eligible mobile-number or account-ID route: get the recipient’s registered phone number or account ID, as requested in the Coinepay form, and their full name exactly as registered. Have the recipient check the details themselves rather than relying on a number saved in your contacts.
- For bank deposit: ask for the bank-account details and full account-holder name requested by Coinepay. A Paytm-registered phone number or UPI ID alone should not be treated as a substitute for bank details when the selected payout method is bank deposit.
Paytm lets people sending money within its app choose “To Mobile or Contact”, a UPI ID or a UPI QR code. For a mobile-number UPI transfer, the number must be linked to UPI, and the sender should check the recipient displayed before authorizing. Those are Paytm’s domestic UPI instructions, not a promise that Coinepay can send an international transfer using a phone number, UPI ID or QR code. Use only the fields and payout methods actually offered for your transfer in Coinepay.
How to send the transfer with Coinepay Global Remittance
- Open Coinepay. Sign in through the self-service dashboard or mobile app. If you are new, register and complete the identity verification required for your transfer.
- Choose the destination. Start a cross-border transfer and select India. Enter the amount you want to send or the amount the recipient should receive, according to the options shown.
- Check the payout methods. Look for the payout route the recipient can actually use. If a Paytm-labelled mobile-wallet method appears, do not assume it credits Paytm Wallet: confirm its destination before proceeding. Otherwise, if bank deposit is offered and the recipient has supplied their bank details, choose that route. Do not select an unrelated wallet simply to get past this step.
- Enter and verify the recipient’s details. For any eligible mobile-wallet route, enter the registered phone number or account ID and the full registered name in the fields requested. For bank deposit, use the recipient’s bank details and account-holder name. Compare each character with the information the recipient provided.
- Review before confirming. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm a transfer. Check those, the payout currency, the amount, the method and the recipient information. If the destination is not what you intended, stop and ask support rather than confirming.
- Confirm and track. Submit the transfer only after the details are correct. Use its status tracking in Coinepay and keep the transfer reference for any follow-up.
Coinepay may request documents about the purpose of the transfer or source of funds as part of its checks. Respond with accurate information; do not send through someone else or split a transfer to avoid a review.
How will the recipient see the money arrive?
The answer depends on the payout method confirmed in Coinepay. For a bank deposit, the recipient should check the receiving bank account and its transaction history. If that account is linked to Paytm UPI, the recipient may use Paytm to view account-related activity, but the funds belong to the bank account, not to a newly topped-up Paytm Wallet. Ask them to check the actual credited account rather than relying only on a notification.
If Coinepay offers a distinct, eligible mobile-wallet route and support confirms where it pays out, the recipient should check the destination identified for that route. Until the recipient confirms receipt, use Coinepay’s transfer status and reference when asking for help. A completed sender-side step should not be mistaken for proof that an old PPBL wallet has accepted a new credit.
Do verification levels or wallet limits matter?
They can, but they do not reopen Paytm Wallet for incoming person-to-person transfers. Under the general rules for prepaid instruments, a small or minimum-detail wallet cannot make funds transfers, while a full-KYC wallet can generally make them. The PPBL-specific restriction on new incoming wallet credits still applies regardless of that distinction. If the recipient has an existing wallet balance or a question about what their account can do, they should seek guidance from Paytm support for their case.
UPI payments have separate bank-dependent transaction and daily restrictions; these are not Paytm Wallet top-up allowances. An applicable limit could affect a recipient’s proposed domestic UPI route, but it does not establish that an international Paytm payout is available. Check the available transfer options and any requirements shown by Coinepay before confirming.
Troubleshooting a Paytm-related transfer
- Wrong phone number or account ID: stop before confirming and get the correct registered details directly from the recipient. If you have already submitted the transfer, check its Coinepay status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the reference. Do not assume a completed payment can be reversed.
- Name mismatch: compare the entered full name with the name registered for the selected receiving method. Ask the recipient to confirm their real account details; do not change a name merely to make it pass a check.
- Wallet limit reached or wallet top-up rejected: distinguish a route-specific limit from the PPBL prohibition on new wallet credits. Retry only after you know which restriction applies. If the recipient can receive a bank deposit, check whether that method is offered instead.
- Unverified wallet: verification levels can restrict wallet functions, but upgrading a PPBL wallet is not a workaround for the ban on incoming person-to-person credits. The recipient should check their options with Paytm.
- Compliance review or pending transfer: check Coinepay’s status tracking before submitting another transfer. Provide any requested identity, purpose-of-payment or source-of-funds documents through the appropriate channel. Transfers remain subject to sanctions screening and local regulations.
If the issue concerns a separate UPI payment made inside Paytm, rather than your Coinepay remittance, Paytm directs users to Profile → Help & Support in its app. The Paytm user should retain the transaction reference, date and amount, especially for a pending, failed, debited-but-not-credited or mistaken UPI payment.

FAQ
Can I send money from abroad directly into Paytm Wallet?
No. PPBL wallets cannot accept new transfers from another person. Ask the recipient for an eligible receiving method, such as a bank account, and check the options offered in Coinepay.
Is a Paytm phone number enough to send a Coinepay transfer?
Only if an eligible payout method in Coinepay specifically requests it. You will also need the recipient’s full registered name. Bank deposit requires the bank details requested in the transfer form.
Will a transfer to the recipient’s Paytm-linked bank account appear in Paytm Wallet?
No. A bank deposit credits the bank account, not the former Paytm Wallet. The recipient should check the credited account and its transaction history.
What should I do if I entered the wrong recipient details?
If you have not confirmed, correct the details first. If submitted, check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with its reference; do not assume a completed transfer is reversible.
