You can send money from the United States to Jamaica with Coinepay Global Remittance. Before you start, ask your recipient how they want to receive the money: in a bank account, a mobile wallet or as cash for pickup. The details you need depend on that choice. This guide explains how to prepare those details, review the transfer and follow its status.
What you need before sending
You need a Coinepay account with identity verification completed. If you have not registered, create an account and follow the verification steps in the Coinepay app or self-service dashboard. Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and applicable local regulations. Coinepay may ask for documents explaining the purpose of a transfer or the source of funds.
Ask the recipient for their full legal name, exactly as it appears on their bank or wallet account or identification document. Confirm their contact information and the details for the payout method they intend to use. Use your real identity and accurate transaction information throughout. If the recipient is unsure of a bank code, account format or pickup requirement, they should check with their receiving bank or payout provider before you submit the transfer.
Jamaica’s local currency is the Jamaican dollar (JMD). When setting up the transfer, select the destination and a currency option offered in Coinepay for that payout method. Confirm what currency the recipient is expected to receive before you approve the transaction; do not assume that every bank account or payout location handles currencies in the same way.
Choose a payout method in Jamaica
Coinepay supports bank deposit, mobile wallet and cash pickup payouts. The choices available for a particular United States-to-Jamaica transfer appear during setup and may depend on the recipient and payout provider. Choose the method your recipient can actually access, then enter the information requested in the app.
Bank account deposit
For a deposit to an eligible Jamaican bank account, ask for the account holder’s full legal name, bank name and exact account number. The receiving bank or payout route may also require a branch name, branch or transit details, the recipient’s address or mobile number, and the bank’s SWIFT/BIC. For an international wire, obtain the receiving bank’s currency-specific instructions rather than relying on details from an earlier transfer. A bank may specify correspondent-bank information for a particular currency; that information is not a substitute for the recipient’s own account details.
Jamaica does not use a standard IBAN format. Do not create an IBAN or enter a US routing number as though it were a Jamaican account code. Use the receiving bank’s account-number format and any branch or transit code it provides. Requirements vary: a detail requested by one payout provider, such as a branch name or mobile number, is not necessarily required for every Coinepay bank deposit. Follow the fields shown in Coinepay and confirm unclear information with the receiving bank.
The recipient should check that their account can receive the selected currency and that the name they give you matches the account record. They may also want to ask their bank whether it needs any additional information to credit an incoming international payment.
Mobile wallet
If a mobile wallet option is displayed for your transfer, the recipient generally needs an active, eligible wallet and the mobile number registered to it. Ask them to confirm the name on the wallet, the number including the correct country code, and any other details requested during transfer setup. GK One is a documented wallet payout option on the United States-to-Jamaica corridor through some providers, but its appearance elsewhere does not establish that it is available for every Coinepay transfer. Check the wallet choices shown in Coinepay before promising the recipient a particular option.
The recipient should check any wallet registration or verification requirements with their wallet provider. A wallet number that is mistyped or not linked to the intended recipient can prevent a payout, so read it back to them before confirming.
Cash pickup
Cash pickup can be useful when the recipient does not want a bank or wallet deposit. Select an available cash-pickup option in Coinepay and enter the recipient’s legal name exactly as shown on the identification they will present. Check the pickup instructions provided for the transfer, including the available location and any reference information the recipient must bring.
The recipient should expect to present valid identification and may be asked for transaction details, such as the sender’s name, sending country or expected amount. Requirements depend on the payout provider: for example, Western Union cash pickups use a transfer control number, but you should share only the reference and instructions issued for your actual Coinepay transfer. Before travelling, the recipient should check the location’s opening hours and identification requirements.
How to send the transfer
- Sign in and start a remittance. Open the Coinepay app or 24/7 self-service dashboard and begin a new cross-border transfer. If you still need an account, complete registration and identity verification first.
- Choose the destination and currency. Set Jamaica as the destination from the United States, then select from the currency and payout options displayed. Ask the recipient which available method suits them before proceeding.
- Enter the recipient’s details. Supply their full legal name and the information requested for bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash pickup. For a bank transfer, compare the account and bank codes against the bank’s current receiving instructions. For a wallet, check the registered phone number. For cash pickup, match the name to the recipient’s ID.
- Review before confirming. Check the recipient, payout method, currency and transfer amount. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm the transfer. Read the displayed payout information and any instructions or requests for supporting documents; correct errors before submitting.
- Confirm and track. Confirm only when the information is accurate. Use the transfer’s status tracking in the Coinepay app or dashboard to follow its progress. Give the recipient only the pickup or receiving information relevant to their payout method.
Recipient-side checks and common problems
A Jamaican receiving bank, wallet or pickup provider may verify the recipient’s identity or request information before releasing funds. Local rules and the provider’s own requirements can affect processing. Tell your recipient the payout method and expected receiving currency so they know where to look for the payment. If they are collecting cash, they should wait for the applicable pickup instructions rather than assuming it is available as soon as you confirm.
- Wrong recipient details: A misspelled name, incorrect account number, missing branch information or wrong SWIFT/BIC can delay a bank payment or cause it to be rejected and returned. Check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer reference. Do not submit another transfer to compensate without first checking what happened to the original.
- Compliance review: Coinepay or a financial institution involved may need identity, purpose-of-payment or source-of-funds documents. Respond through the requested channel with accurate information. Transfers are screened against sanctions lists and remain subject to local regulations.
- A transfer appears delayed: Check its status first. Bank processing schedules, weekends, holidays, correspondent-bank steps, recipient verification and regulatory checks can all affect when a payout becomes available. Ask the recipient to check with their bank, wallet provider or pickup location if the status indicates a payout should be available but they cannot access it.
- A transfer is returned: A receiving institution may reject a payment because the name and account do not match or its receiving requirements were not met. Check the status and contact Coinepay support for the reason and next steps. Verify corrected details directly with the recipient and their provider before initiating a new transfer.
Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions. If you are uncertain whether a recipient or transaction is eligible, ask Coinepay support before sending.
