Coinepay Global Remittance supports transfers from the United States to Ghana. You can choose a Ghanaian bank deposit, mobile-wallet payout or cash pickup, subject to the options shown for your transfer. This guide explains what to prepare, how to review the transfer before sending it and what to do if a payout needs attention.
What you need before sending
Start with a Coinepay account and complete any identity verification requested in the app. Have your recipient’s full legal name exactly as it appears on their bank or wallet account, or on the identity document they will use for cash pickup. Ask the recipient to confirm the payout details directly rather than copying them from an old transfer.
For a bank deposit, you will commonly need the recipient’s bank name and account number. Some routes may also ask for the bank’s SWIFT/BIC, a local bank or branch code, and the purpose of the transfer. Ghana does not use a national IBAN format, so do not invent an IBAN for a Ghanaian account. Ghanaian banks use six-digit bank and branch sort codes, but whether you need to enter one depends on the fields shown for your transfer. Follow those fields and check unfamiliar codes with the recipient or their bank.
For a mobile-wallet payout, ask for the recipient’s registered wallet number, wallet provider and name as registered on the wallet. For cash pickup, confirm the recipient’s legal name and make sure they can present valid photo identification and the pickup reference or instructions provided for the transfer.
Choose how your recipient gets paid in Ghana
Ghana’s local currency is the Ghanaian cedi (GHS). Check the payout currency and the amount the recipient is expected to receive on Coinepay’s review screen. Available payout partners, locations and required fields can depend on the transfer, so use the choices presented in the app rather than assuming that every option is available for every recipient.
Bank account deposit
Choose bank deposit when the recipient wants funds sent to their Ghanaian bank account. Enter the account holder’s legal name, bank name and account number as requested. If the form requests a SWIFT/BIC or six-digit local sort code, obtain it from the recipient’s bank rather than guessing. Check every digit before confirming: an incorrect account number or mismatched name may lead to a delay or rejection by the receiving bank.
If the recipient is a business, verify the permitted route before sending. Ghana’s rules for registered international money-transfer operators restrict inward remittance payouts into business or corporate accounts; a business payment may require a different eligible route. Contact Coinepay support if you are unsure which route applies.
Mobile-money wallet
Mobile money can be useful when the recipient uses a Ghanaian wallet rather than a bank account. Main local services include MTN Mobile Money, AirtelTigo Money and Telecel/Vodafone Cash. Choose the provider offered for your transfer, then enter the recipient’s registered wallet number and name. Ask the recipient to check that the wallet is active and able to receive the payout. A phone number that is valid for calls is not necessarily the number registered to their wallet.
Wallet providers and payout partners may impose their own account requirements. If you are sending to a business wallet, check eligibility before confirming; do not assume a personal-wallet payout route accepts business mobile-money accounts.
Cash pickup
Choose cash pickup if it appears as an option and the recipient can visit an eligible payout location. Enter the recipient’s name exactly as it appears on their valid photo ID. Once the transfer is ready for collection, share the pickup reference and any location instructions shown for the transfer directly with the recipient. They should check the required ID and collection details before travelling. A reference for one pickup service or location may not work at another.
How to send the transfer with Coinepay
- Sign in and start a remittance. Use the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app. If you are new to Coinepay, register and complete the requested identity checks first.
- Select the route. Choose the United States as the sending country and Ghana as the destination. Enter the amount and select the currencies offered for the transfer; check whether the recipient will receive GHS.
- Choose a payout method. Select bank deposit, an available mobile wallet or cash pickup. Enter the recipient’s real legal name and the details required for that method. Provide a transfer purpose if prompted.
- Review before confirming. Check the recipient’s details, payout method, currency and expected recipient amount. Coinepay shows the applicable exchange rate and fees before you confirm. Make sure you understand the final review screen before proceeding.
- Confirm and track. Submit the transfer after checking the information. Use its status tracking in the dashboard or app to follow progress. Keep the transfer reference so support can identify it if you need help.
Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and applicable local regulations. Coinepay may ask for documents or information about the purpose of a payment or the source of funds. Provide accurate information through the requested channel; do not ask someone else to send on your behalf to avoid a review.
What the recipient should check
For bank deposit, the recipient should confirm that the account is active and that the account name and number they gave you match their bank’s records. For mobile money, they should verify the wallet provider, registered name and wallet number. For cash pickup, they should retain the pickup instructions and take the required ID to the specified eligible location. They should not share a pickup reference publicly.
Recipient banks, wallet operators and cash-pickup partners may carry out their own checks. Ghana’s remittance rules require regulated operators to keep transaction records and use approved payout channels. The recipient may be asked to clarify the reason for a payment. Tax treatment depends on what the money represents: for example, a payment connected with work, business or investment may be treated differently from family support. If the recipient has a tax question, they should seek advice suited to their circumstances rather than assume all incoming transfers have the same treatment.
Troubleshooting a Ghana transfer
- Wrong name, account number or wallet details: Check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the reference. Do not assume you can edit a transfer after confirmation. Ask the recipient to confirm the correct details, and wait for guidance before starting another transfer.
- Compliance review: If Coinepay requests identity documents, a transfer purpose or evidence of the source of funds, respond accurately through the indicated channel. A review does not by itself mean the payout details are wrong.
- Status has not changed: Check whether Coinepay is waiting for information from you. Funding, receiving-bank processing, weekends and public holidays can affect progress. For cash pickup, confirm that the recipient has the correct reference and payout-location instructions.
- Transfer is rejected or returned: An incorrect account number, name mismatch or receiving-side issue may prevent payout. Check the status and contact support for the reason and next steps. Review all details before attempting a replacement transfer; do not assume a returned transfer will be re-sent automatically.
You can manage and track transfers through Coinepay’s 24/7 self-service dashboard or its mobile app for iOS and Android. If a status or requested document is unclear, use your transfer reference when contacting support.
