Cloudflare Registrar charges for domain registrations, renewals and transfers rather than a separate Registrar subscription. If you want to pay with a Coinepay virtual card, prepare your verified Coinepay account, check the domain’s checkout total, and make sure the card is the primary payment method Cloudflare will use for Registrar charges.

What to check before you start

  • A Coinepay account and card: Register and complete identity verification before using Coinepay card services. Coinepay provides the virtual card number, expiry date and CVV in its app and 24/7 self-service dashboard. Check the app for your available balance and any card-specific details you need before checkout.
  • A Cloudflare account: Create one or sign in, and verify its email address. Have your real registrant and billing details ready.
  • An eligible domain: Cloudflare supports many extensions, but not all can be newly registered. Internationalized domain names are unsupported, and Registrar domains must use Cloudflare nameservers. Some extensions impose eligibility rules: for example, a .us registrant must satisfy US-nexus requirements.
  • A payment method Cloudflare can process: Cloudflare lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and UnionPay cards among its billing-profile methods. Check your card details in Coinepay and contact Coinepay support if you need help confirming whether your card meets a merchant requirement. Merchant acceptance is determined at checkout.

Cloudflare warns that gift or prepaid cards without an associated billing address may not be accepted. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets Cloudflare’s billing-address requirement before you buy. Use your actual billing information; changing it to an unrelated address is not a remedy for a decline.

Understand the domain price before paying

Cloudflare Registrar has no separately named plans. The amount depends on the extension and the transaction: registering, renewing, transferring or restoring a domain can have different charges. Cloudflare says its Registrar pricing uses registry and ICANN list prices without a Registrar markup; taxes or localized fees may also apply. Its Free, Pro, Business and Contract site-service plans are separate from Registrar domain fees.

For illustration, at the time of writing (October 2026), Cloudflare’s published dollar-denominated extension list showed .com at $10.46 for registration, renewal or transfer, and .uk at $5.30 for registration or renewal, with a $0 transfer price. The same list showed a discounted first-year .io registration at $32 and a $50 renewal. These are published extension prices, not a quote for your particular checkout. Check Cloudflare’s official Registrar pricing page and the final purchase screen for your domain’s current price, currency, term and total. A promotional registration price need not be the renewal price.

How to register a domain and pay with your Coinepay card

  1. Set up Coinepay. Register with Coinepay if needed, complete identity verification, and access your virtual card details through the Coinepay app or dashboard. Make sure the available balance can cover the total displayed at Cloudflare checkout, including any applicable taxes or fees.
  2. Sign in to Cloudflare. Create or access your Cloudflare account and verify the account email. Use accurate account, registrant and billing details that you are entitled to provide.
  3. Find the domain. In the Cloudflare dashboard, go to Register domains → Search. Search for the name and extension you want. Search results are not the final availability check; Cloudflare checks again during purchase, so do not treat a result as a reservation.
  4. Start checkout. Select Purchase for the domain. Choose the registration term and check the updated price and expiration date. Read any extension-specific eligibility requirements before continuing.
  5. Enter registrant and payment details. Supply your real registrant information, then select payment and enter the Coinepay virtual card details where Cloudflare offers card payment. Enter the associated billing information accurately. If Cloudflare asks you to complete card authentication, finish that step rather than closing or bypassing it.
  6. Review and submit. Check the spelling of the domain, extension, term, total and agreements, then select Complete purchase. Completed domain registrations are non-refundable, including registrations of a mistaken name, so take a final look before confirming.

Dashboard registrations have auto-renew switched on by default. After checkout, review the domain’s registration and renewal settings rather than assuming this was a one-time payment.

Set the right card for future Registrar charges

In Cloudflare’s account dashboard, billing is under Manage Account → Billing, with payment methods under Subscriptions → Payment methods. Cloudflare’s Registrar FAQ says Registrar transactions use only the primary payment method. If your Coinepay card is merely an additional method, do not assume Cloudflare will try it when a domain charge fails. Check which method is primary before a purchase or renewal.

To inspect a domain’s fees and registration details, go to Manage Domains → [domain] → Registration. Domain charges and auto-renew do not belong under Active Subscriptions, even though payment methods appear in a Subscriptions menu. If Cloudflare will not let you remove a payment method, check whether it is tied to an active paid service, pending transaction or imminent Registrar renewal before seeking help.

What to do if Cloudflare declines the card

Cloudflare documents messages including “The payment has failed. Please contact your bank or use a different payment method” and “Payment error: authorization failed for [‘example.com’].” These messages do not by themselves identify the cause. Work through the checks below, then ask Coinepay support about an issuer-side decline or Cloudflare billing support about an account-side error.

  • Insufficient balance or an unpaid Cloudflare balance: Compare your available card balance with the final checkout total, not just a published extension price. An unpaid Cloudflare balance can also block a new purchase; review Manage Account → Billing.
  • Card or billing-detail mismatch: Recheck the card number, expiry date, CVV and billing details for typing errors. Use your real billing information and check that it matches the details associated with your payment method. Cloudflare may reject a gift or prepaid card that lacks an associated billing address; contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets that requirement.
  • Incomplete 3-D Secure: If card authentication is required, complete the prompt and return to checkout. Cloudflare notes that issuer-required 3-D Secure applies in regions including the EU and India. If no prompt arrives or it fails, ask Coinepay support for help rather than repeatedly abandoning checkout.
  • Merchant region or eligibility checks: Check whether the domain extension has registrant rules, such as the .us US-nexus requirement, and whether Cloudflare offers the chosen payment option for your account. For example, Cloudflare lists Instant Bank Payments via Link for US-based self-serve accounts. Do not change your address or identity to get around a restriction.
  • Issuer controls or repeated attempts: Cloudflare notes that issuer declines and bank rate-limiting can cause failures, and separate domain charges may trigger fraud controls. Avoid rapid repeat attempts. The issuer must identify its specific decline reason; ask Coinepay support to review the attempted payment if the other checks do not resolve it.

Because Registrar charges use the primary payment method, also verify that the intended card—not another saved method—is primary. If Cloudflare reports an account billing error or a blocked purchase, contact Cloudflare billing support with the exact message and the domain involved. Do not share your full card number or CVV in a support message.

Manage auto-renew and avoid an unwanted charge

Cloudflare turns on auto-renew by default for domains registered through its dashboard. Review Manage Domains → [domain] → Registration after purchase. If you do not want the domain to renew, Cloudflare says to switch off Manage Domains → [domain] → Auto-renew at least 30 days before expiration and let the registration lapse. Transferring the domain out also ends the Registrar agreement for that domain.

Turning off auto-renew does not reverse a completed charge. Cloudflare says completed registrations, renewals and transfers are non-refundable. Decide whether you want to keep or transfer a domain before its next renewal, and check its current expiration date and payment method in the dashboard.

FAQ

Is Cloudflare Registrar a monthly subscription?

No. Registrar charges depend on the domain extension and transaction, such as registration, renewal or transfer. Cloudflare site-service plans are separate.

Will Cloudflare use my Coinepay card if it is saved as an additional payment method?

Do not assume so. Cloudflare says Registrar transactions use only the account’s primary payment method. Check which method is primary before checkout or renewal.

Why did Cloudflare decline my virtual card?

Possible causes include insufficient balance, incorrect billing details, incomplete 3-D Secure or an issuer decline. Check the exact error and ask Coinepay support to review an issuer-side decline.

Can I get a refund if I register the wrong domain?

Cloudflare says completed registrations, renewals and transfers are non-refundable, including registrations of a mistaken domain name. Review the name before selecting Complete purchase.
