Coinepay Global Remittance lets you send money to India from your verified account, with the exchange rate and any fees shown clearly before you confirm. India's local currency is the Indian rupee (INR), and your recipient can be paid into a bank account, through a mobile wallet, or by cash pickup where eligible. This guide walks through what you need, how each payout method works, and what to do if a transfer is delayed.
Before you start
To send to India you need a Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. Every transfer is subject to sanctions screening and local regulations, and Coinepay may ask for supporting documents such as the purpose or source of funds before releasing a payment. Get started here:
- Create or verify your account: register with Coinepay.
- Manage transfers from the iOS app, the Android app, or the 24/7 self-service dashboard.
Use your real identity and real details, and ask your recipient for the exact information their bank or wallet shows, not an approximation.
What the sender needs
At a minimum you will need your recipient's full legal name exactly as it appears on their bank account or wallet, and the payout details that match the method you choose. Depending on the method, that can include:
- Bank account credit: the complete account number and the branch's IFSC code (an 11-character code that identifies the Indian bank branch). Account-number length varies by bank, so copy it exactly.
- International bank wire: the receiving bank's SWIFT/BIC code, plus any correspondent-bank details the bank specifies.
- Mobile wallet or cash pickup: the recipient's registered name and the identifiers the payout partner requests at confirmation.
India does not have a national IBAN format, so you will not use an IBAN for the receiving Indian account. Likewise, CLABE and US-style routing numbers are not used to identify the Indian account; a sending or correspondent bank may separately apply its own clearing details.
Payout methods you can choose
Bank account deposit
This is the most widely used option. Funds are credited to the recipient's Indian bank account using the account number and IFSC; the domestic leg may run over networks such as IMPS. Confirm both the account number and IFSC with your recipient before sending, because an inaccurate value can stop the credit. Note that payouts under the authorised money transfer scheme (RDA/MTSS) must be credited to a bank account rather than paid in cash.
Mobile wallet
India permits wallet payouts only through an eligible issuer's full-KYC prepaid instrument, and there is a regulatory cap on how much of an individual remittance may be loaded to a wallet this way; amounts above that go to a bank account instead. UPI and IMPS can carry the domestic leg of an inward remittance into an eligible bank account, but not every wallet app accepts a direct international transfer. In the Coinepay app, choose the wallet option if it is offered for your recipient and follow the on-screen prompts; availability of any specific wallet brand depends on the payout partner.
Cash pickup
Cash collection is available under the money transfer scheme for eligible transfers, subject to a per-remittance cash ceiling set by regulation. Your recipient collects the funds using valid identification in their legal name, which must match the name on the transfer exactly. If the Coinepay app shows cash pickup for India, you will select a payout location or provider during setup.
Step by step: send money to India
- Open Coinepay and start a transfer. In the app or dashboard, choose Global Remittance and select India as the destination.
- Pick the payout method. Choose bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash pickup. The fields you are asked to fill change with the method.
- Enter the recipient details. Add the full legal name and the matching payout details (account number and IFSC, or SWIFT/BIC for a wire, or wallet/pickup identifiers). Double-check every character.
- Set the amount and currency. Enter what you want to send; the app shows the amount in INR your recipient is set to receive.
- Review the rate and fees. Coinepay displays the exchange rate and any fees before you confirm. Read this summary carefully.
- Provide any required information. You may be asked for a purpose of remittance and supporting documents as part of verification and sanctions screening.
- Confirm. Once you approve, the transfer is submitted for processing.
- Track the status. Follow the transfer in the app's activity or transfers list until it shows as paid out.
Recipient-side considerations
The receiving bank or payout partner in India may require a purpose code, recipient identification, or declarations before crediting funds. Certain scheme-based payouts are limited to personal remittances such as family maintenance and cannot be used for trade, property purchases, investments, charitable donations or credit to particular account types; those uses need a different, appropriate channel.
India also has reporting rules: regulated entities report larger cross-border wire transfers to the financial-intelligence authority. This is a reporting step, not a limit on what your recipient can receive. Separately, a non-exempt monetary gift may be taxable to the Indian recipient once gifts received without consideration pass a yearly threshold, with exemptions for gifts from specified relatives. Encourage your recipient to keep their own records and seek advice on their tax position where relevant.
Troubleshooting
Wrong or incomplete recipient details
Inaccurate account numbers, an incorrect IFSC, or a name that does not match the account are the most common causes of a failed or returned credit. Stop and re-check these with your recipient before sending. If a transfer has already gone out with an error, contact Coinepay support promptly with your transfer reference.
Compliance review
Transfers are screened against sanctions lists and may be held while checks are completed. Respond quickly if Coinepay asks for the purpose or source of funds, or any identity document, so your transfer can continue.
Delays on the recipient side
A missing or invalid purpose code, or outstanding declarations and supporting documents, can leave an incoming wire on hold pending the recipient's response. Ask your recipient to check with their bank and provide whatever the bank requests.
Returned transfers
A payment can be returned if recipient information is incomplete or inaccurate, if the account does not meet applicable KYC requirements, or if the transfer was attempted through a scheme for a purpose or amount that scheme does not allow. Review the status note in the Coinepay app and correct the details, then send again through the correct method.

FAQ
What details do I need to send money to an Indian bank account?
You need the recipient's full legal name, their complete account number and the branch's 11-character IFSC code. For an international wire you also need the receiving bank's SWIFT/BIC and any correspondent-bank details it specifies.
Does India use an IBAN?
No. India has no national IBAN format, so you use the account number and IFSC for domestic credit, or the SWIFT/BIC for an international wire. Follow the recipient bank's own account instructions.
Can my recipient receive the money in a mobile wallet or as cash?
Where available, yes. Mobile-wallet payouts are permitted only through eligible full-KYC prepaid instruments and are capped per remittance by regulation, with larger amounts going to a bank account. Cash pickup is available for eligible transfers up to a regulatory ceiling. Check the Coinepay app for what is offered for your recipient.
Will I see the exchange rate and fees before I send?
Yes. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and any fees before you confirm, so you can review the full summary and the INR amount your recipient will receive before approving the transfer.
Why might my transfer to India be delayed or returned?
Common reasons include incorrect account or IFSC details, a name that doesn't match the account, a missing purpose code or declaration, a recipient account that doesn't meet KYC, or a compliance review. Check the status note in the app and contact Coinepay support if needed.
