You can send money to Honduras with Coinepay Global Remittance and choose from the payout options shown for your transfer. This guide explains what to collect from your recipient, how bank deposit, mobile wallet and cash pickup work, and what to check if a transfer needs attention.
What you need before you start
Set up your Coinepay account and complete identity verification before starting a transfer. Have your recipient’s full legal name exactly as it appears on their bank account, wallet profile or identity document. You may also need their address and contact details, depending on the payout method and the information requested in the transfer form. Use your own real identity and accurate recipient details throughout.
Honduras’s local currency is the lempira (HNL). When you select Honduras as the destination, check the available payout currencies and methods in the Coinepay app or self-service dashboard. The receiving currency and method can affect what details the recipient must provide.
- For bank deposit: Ask the recipient for the account holder’s legal name, account number and receiving bank’s name. For international bank instructions, the bank may also provide its SWIFT/BIC, the recipient’s address and, where applicable, correspondent-bank details. Have the recipient confirm which identifiers their bank currently accepts.
- For mobile wallet: Obtain the mobile number linked to the recipient’s active wallet and their legal name as registered with the provider. Confirm the wallet can receive the type of remittance offered in the transfer form.
- For cash pickup: Obtain the recipient’s legal name as shown on their government-issued photo ID and any other contact details requested. Before you confirm, check the pickup location and the instructions displayed for that option.
Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay may request supporting documents, such as evidence of the transfer’s purpose or source of funds. It does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions.
Choose a payout method in Honduras
Bank-account deposit
With bank deposit, the payment goes to the recipient’s account rather than requiring them to visit a pickup agent. The recipient should check the account number and account-holder name directly with their bank before sharing them. If the transfer form requests a SWIFT/BIC or additional bank information, use the receiving bank’s current incoming-transfer instructions rather than guessing a code.
Honduras has a registered 28-character IBAN format: it begins with HN, followed by two check digits, a four-letter bank identifier and a 20-character account component. Do not assume that every Honduran account already has an operational IBAN. Ask the receiving bank whether to provide an IBAN or its existing account number for this particular transfer. Likewise, enter a local bank code only if the transfer form requests one and the receiving bank confirms the correct value; do not substitute a code used in another country.
For a foreign-currency bank payout, local rules require credit to an authorized foreign-currency deposit account in the beneficiary’s name. The recipient should check with their bank whether their account can accept the selected payout currency. Otherwise, review the HNL option and the terms displayed before confirming.
Mobile wallet
A mobile-wallet payout credits an eligible recipient wallet instead of a bank account. Select this method only if it appears among the available options for your Honduras transfer, and check the wallet provider and currency shown before you proceed. The recipient should verify that their wallet is active, registered in their own name and able to receive an international remittance.
Tigo Money is a local example: it accepts certain eligible international remittances into wallets in lempiras. Its published recipient conditions include Honduran nationality, being at least 18 years old, a valid national ID and an up-to-date wallet profile. Those conditions describe Tigo Money’s eligible remittance service; they do not mean that a Tigo Money payout will appear for every Coinepay transfer. If the recipient uses Tigo Money, ask them to check their wallet’s eligibility and balance restrictions with Tigo before you choose it. A blocked or suspended wallet or a name mismatch can prevent a credit.
Cash pickup
Cash pickup lets the recipient collect money from a participating payout location when that option is available in the transfer form. Check the displayed location or pickup network and share the pickup instructions with the recipient. They should bring a valid government-issued photo ID with a name matching the transfer. If the transfer provides a pickup reference or code, share it privately with the intended recipient; the location may require it to release the funds. The recipient should confirm the location’s requirements and availability before travelling.
How to send the transfer step by step
- Sign in to your verified Coinepay account. Use the Coinepay app or 24/7 self-service dashboard to start a Global Remittance transfer. If you have not registered, create an account and complete the required identity verification first.
- Choose Honduras and the payout currency. Enter the amount and select Honduras as the destination. Review the currencies and payout methods offered for this transfer; HNL is Honduras’s local currency.
- Choose how the recipient will receive the money. Select bank deposit, a listed mobile wallet or cash pickup, then enter the details requested for that method. Copy the recipient’s legal name from their account or ID, and check account numbers, wallet numbers and bank codes against information supplied by the recipient or their provider.
- Review before confirming. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm. Check the amount the recipient is set to receive, the payout currency, recipient details and any instructions or requests for additional information. If something does not match, go back and correct it.
- Confirm and track. Submit the transfer only when the review is accurate. You can follow its status in the Coinepay app or dashboard. Keep the transfer details available in case you need to answer a verification request or contact support.
What the recipient should expect
Receiving steps depend on the method selected. For bank deposit, the recipient can check their account activity and contact their bank if it requests information to identify or credit the payment. For a wallet, they should check their registered profile and wallet activity. For cash pickup, they should follow the transfer’s pickup instructions and bring the required ID.
A remittance in Honduras may be paid in lempiras or, where permitted under the applicable arrangements, in foreign currency. Do not assume that every account, wallet or pickup location handles both. Check the payout currency in the transfer review, and ask the recipient to confirm that their chosen method can receive it. Receiving institutions may verify the beneficiary and ask questions about a payment under local requirements.
Troubleshooting a Honduras transfer
- Wrong recipient name or account details: A mismatch can delay a bank credit or cause a return. If you notice an error after confirming, check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer details. Do not assume submitted details can be changed; wait for instructions before attempting another transfer.
- Transfer under review: Respond to requests in your account for identity information or documents about the purpose or source of funds. Transfers must pass sanctions screening and applicable local checks. Provide accurate information rather than asking someone else to receive the payment for you.
- Recipient has not received it: Check the tracked status first. Ask the recipient to confirm their bank account, wallet eligibility or pickup requirements. A receiving bank or payout provider may need to resolve an account, identification or service issue.
- Transfer returned or cannot be completed: A closed account, incorrect account number, beneficiary-name mismatch or compliance issue may prevent payout. Review the status and any message from Coinepay, then contact support about the next steps. Verify corrected details with the recipient’s bank or provider before starting a new transfer.
If you are unsure which Honduras payout option to select, compare the methods presented in your transfer and confirm the recipient’s current requirements with their bank, wallet provider or pickup location before you confirm.
