YouTube advertising is billed through Google Ads, not as a named monthly subscription. Whether you use the simplified Promote tool inside YouTube Studio or build a full Video campaign in Google Ads, you set a budget and Google charges your saved payment method as your ads run. This guide shows how to add a Coinepay virtual card, complete checkout, and troubleshoot the most common card declines.
This article is about buying ads on YouTube. It does not cover paying for YouTube Premium, which is a separate consumer subscription.
Before you start
To pay for YouTube Ads with a Coinepay virtual card, make sure you have:
- A verified Coinepay account. Register at the Coinepay sign-up page and complete identity verification (KYC) before you try to use a card. You can manage everything from the Coinepay dashboard or the mobile app on iOS and Google Play.
- A Coinepay virtual card issued in your dashboard, with the card number, expiry date and CVV ready.
- Enough balance on the card to cover a small verification authorization plus your intended ad spend.
- Your real billing details — the name, address and country that match your Coinepay profile. Use your genuine identity and billing information.
An important card-type restriction
Google documents credit and debit cards generally, and states that prepaid cards are not accepted for postpay (the setting formerly called automatic payments). If you plan to use a postpay billing setup, this matters. Coinepay does not publish whether its card is prepaid, debit or credit here, so before you commit budget, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets Google's requirement for the billing setting you intend to use. Where it is available in your country, the prepay setting (formerly manual payments) works by adding funds before ads run, which can be an alternative to check during setup.
Step 1: Set up or sign in to Google Ads
YouTube's Promote tool links to a Google Ads account for billing, so you will need one either way.
- Go to the Google Ads website and sign in, or create an account by entering your business information.
- Choose a campaign goal and set your budget. Google may create a first campaign as part of onboarding.
- When prompted, enter your billing country and set up your payments profile, then add a payment method.
- Select Submit to finish setup. Google may request a temporary card authorization or a small refundable verification prepayment at this stage.
Your billing country and currency are usually fixed once the payments profile is created, so pick carefully and make sure they match your real location.
Step 2: Add your Coinepay virtual card
In Google Ads, open Billing → Settings → Payment methods to add or change a card.
- Select the option to add a payment method and choose Card.
- Enter the Coinepay card number, expiry date and CVV exactly as shown in your Coinepay dashboard.
- Enter the billing address that matches your Coinepay account. A mismatch here is a frequent cause of declines.
- Save the card. If you want it used automatically, set it as the primary payment method.
Use Billing → Summary at any time to see your balance, payments made and any applicable refund information.
Step 3: Launch your YouTube ad
Using the Promote tool in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, go to Content → Promotions → New Promotion.
- Link or create a Google Ads account when asked.
- Choose your goal, targeting, budget and end date.
- Complete Google Ads billing if you have not already.
- Select Promote to launch.
Using a Google Ads Video campaign
For more control, create a Video campaign directly in Google Ads. You set a daily or campaign-total budget during campaign creation, and charges follow the bidding strategy you choose — for example per TrueView view or per 1,000 impressions. Note that Google upgraded Video Action Campaigns to Demand Gen by May 2026, and the old "Views" metric was renamed "TrueView views" in October 2025 without changing how billing works.
How and when you are charged
There are no fixed YouTube Ads subscription prices; what you pay depends on your campaign budget and chargeable events. For current cost guidance, check Google's official pricing resources rather than relying on a quoted figure. When Google actually charges your card depends on your billing setting:
| Setting | When you pay |
|---|---|
| Postpay (automatic) | On the first of the month or when your account reaches its payment threshold, whichever comes first. |
| Prepay (manual) | You add funds first, and ads draw down from that balance as they run. |
| Monthly invoicing | Approved accounts receive an invoice; this requires an application and credit approval and is not a route most new advertisers use. |
Monthly invoicing is not a minimum spend requirement for ordinary YouTube Ads. Its stated eligibility includes a registered business of at least one year, an account in good standing for six months, and at least US$5,000 monthly spend in three of the previous 12 months (or local-currency equivalent).
Troubleshooting a declined card
If a charge fails, Google may show instructions to contact your financial institution or choose another method, and the decline reason, when available, appears under Billing → Summary. The issuer ultimately decides each decline. Common causes Google lists:
- Insufficient funds or exceeded limits. Make sure your Coinepay card has enough balance for the verification authorization plus your ad spend. Top up in the Coinepay app if needed and retry.
- Billing address mismatch. The address in Google Ads must match the one on your Coinepay profile. Re-enter it carefully, matching country and postal code.
- Incorrect number, expiry or CVV. Copy the details directly from your Coinepay dashboard to avoid typos.
- Failed required authentication (3-D Secure). Some transactions trigger an extra verification step. Approve the confirmation through the Coinepay app or the method shown, and keep notifications enabled so you do not miss the prompt.
- Issuer restrictions on internet or international transactions, or charge-frequency limits. Check your card controls in the Coinepay app, and contact Coinepay support if a legitimate charge is being blocked.
- Card type not accepted. Remember that prepaid cards are not accepted for postpay. If declines persist on a postpay account, confirm with Coinepay support whether your card suits that setting, or try the prepay setting where it is available in your country.
- Expired card. If your Coinepay card has reached its expiry, issue or update the card and re-enter the new details.
Google Ads is also unavailable to advertisers in certain sanctioned regions, including Cuba, Iran and North Korea, and ads are paused for users in Russia. If you are in one of those locations, the service itself — not your card — is the blocker.
Managing spend and stopping ads
To pause a single Promote campaign, open its details in YouTube Studio and select Pause promotion, or set its end date to today. To close the account entirely, an admin can go to Admin → Preferences → Account status → Cancel my account; Google says ads stop within 24 hours. In both cases, costs already accrued still have to be paid.
Eligible unused account funds are generally refunded to the original payment method after cancellation, though promotional credits are not refundable. Google says card refunds are typically processed within about two weeks, with up to ten more business days on the financial institution's side, and its broader estimate spans 4–12 weeks end to end. Keep your Coinepay card active until any refund lands.
Tip for businesses running multiple ad accounts
If you manage several ad accounts, Coinepay lets businesses issue a dedicated virtual card for each one and set custom spending limits per card. That keeps your YouTube Ads spend separate from other campaigns and makes reconciliation easier. You can create and adjust these cards from the Coinepay dashboard at any time.
For anything specific to your card — balances, limits, authentication prompts or card type — check the Coinepay app or reach out through support or Telegram.

FAQ
Can I use a Coinepay virtual card for YouTube Ads?
You can add a virtual card to Google Ads under Billing → Settings → Payment methods to pay for YouTube Ads. Note that Google does not accept prepaid cards for postpay (automatic payments). Because card type details are specific to your card, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card suits the billing setting you plan to use before committing budget.
How much does it cost to advertise on YouTube?
YouTube Ads are not sold as fixed-price subscription plans. You set a daily or campaign-total budget, and charges follow your bidding strategy, such as per TrueView view or per 1,000 impressions. Check Google's official pricing resources for current guidance, as costs depend on your campaign and market.
Why was my card declined when paying for YouTube Ads?
Common reasons Google lists include insufficient funds, exceeded limits, a billing address that does not match your card profile, an incorrect number or CVV, failed 3-D Secure authentication, or issuer restrictions on international or online transactions. The reason, when available, shows under Billing → Summary. Fix the detail and retry, or contact Coinepay support.
When does Google charge my card for YouTube Ads?
It depends on your billing setting. Postpay charges on the first of the month or when your account hits its payment threshold, whichever comes first. Prepay draws down funds you added before ads run. Approved monthly-invoicing accounts receive an invoice instead.
How do I stop my YouTube ad and get a refund?
Pause a single Promote campaign in YouTube Studio via Pause promotion, or cancel the whole account under Admin → Preferences → Account status. Ads stop within 24 hours, but accrued costs remain payable. Eligible unused funds are usually refunded to the original payment method; promotional credits are not refundable.
