WIRED covers technology, science, culture and business, and a subscription unlocks its full digital archive and reporting. This guide walks through subscribing to WIRED and paying with a Coinepay virtual card, from preparing your details to finishing checkout, and what to try if a payment is declined.
What you need before you start
Get these ready so checkout goes smoothly:
- A verified Coinepay account. Register at Coinepay and complete identity verification (KYC) before you can create and use a card.
- A Coinepay virtual card. Once issued, you get a card number, expiry date and CVV instantly in the Coinepay app or dashboard.
- Enough balance on the card. Fund it to cover the plan price plus any applicable tax, which WIRED adds on top of the US-dollar prices it displays.
- Your real billing details. Use the name and billing address that match your Coinepay account, because WIRED's payment processor may check them.
- A WIRED account email. You will sign in or create an account during the order.
Coinepay card and fund services are provided by licensed partner financial institutions, and some services are not available in every jurisdiction. Virtual-asset-related services are not available to residents of mainland China.
Choose a WIRED plan
WIRED sells its subscriptions through its offer page at wired.com. The plans named there and in WIRED's FAQ include Annual Digital Access, 4 Week Digital Access, Print + Digital and WIRED Digital All Access (a bundle that covers WIRED and several other Condé Nast brands, with The New Yorker selectable at additional cost).
At the time of writing (October 2026), the US web offer showed Annual Digital Access with a first month free, then US$24 for the first year, renewing automatically at US$48 per year, while the same page separately listed US$99 as the regular digital-only annual rate. The 4 Week Digital Access offer showed US$4 for four weeks, renewing at US$4 per four weeks. These are displayed US offers, not a guarantee of what you will see, and prices vary by region. Always confirm the current price and the renewal rate on WIRED's official offer page and at checkout.
The displayed introductory web offer is limited to customers who have not subscribed within the previous 18 months. Prices are stated in US dollars with applicable tax added.
Step-by-step: pay for WIRED on the web
- Create your Coinepay virtual card. Open the Coinepay app or dashboard, issue a card, and top it up so the balance comfortably covers the plan price plus tax.
- Open WIRED's subscription page. Go to wired.com, find the subscription or offers page, and pick the plan you want (for example Annual Digital Access or 4 Week Digital Access).
- Select the offer and continue. Choose Get Digital Access on the offer you want.
- Sign in or create an account. A WIRED website login and a magazine subscription can be separate things, so use an email you control. If existing access is not recognized later, you can sign in and link the subscription using its number or shipping address.
- Enter your card details. Type your Coinepay card number, expiry date and CVV. WIRED lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, PayPal, Apple Pay, Amazon Pay and mailed checks as accepted methods, though not every option appears for every country or offer.
- Enter billing information that matches your card. Use the real name and billing address tied to your Coinepay account.
- Complete any security check. If a one-time passcode or 3-D Secure prompt appears, approve it through the method linked to your Coinepay card.
- Place the order and keep the confirmation. WIRED says access starts immediately, cards are charged when the order is received, and a confirmation email normally arrives within 24 hours. A renewal-rate reminder is emailed before any renewal.
The exact authenticated checkout fields and the final payment screen can change, so follow the on-screen labels WIRED shows at the time.
Paying through the iOS app instead
If you subscribe inside the WIRED iOS app, you select Subscribe and then Monthly or Annual. In that flow Apple processes the order and bills the payment method on your Apple account, not WIRED's web billing. At the time of writing (October 2026) the App Store listing showed US$3.99/month or US$39.99/year in the US, with different amounts in Canada, the UK and Australia; these are in-app purchase prices, separate from the web offers. An Apple-billed subscription must be managed or canceled through Apple's settings, not through WIRED. If you want to pay with your Coinepay card directly to WIRED, use the web checkout above.
If your card is declined
WIRED's payment FAQ lists accepted methods but does not publish a decline-code guide, so specific error wording is not documented. Work through the common causes below.
Insufficient balance
Confirm the card balance covers the full charge, including tax added on top of the listed US-dollar price and any currency conversion. Top up in the Coinepay app and retry.
Billing address or name mismatch
Make sure the billing name and address you enter at WIRED exactly match what is on your Coinepay account. A mismatch is a frequent reason an otherwise valid card is refused.
3-D Secure or verification prompt
If a 3-D Secure or one-time code step does not complete, the payment will fail. Check the Coinepay app for an approval request and finish it, then submit the order again.
Merchant region checks
WIRED says subscriptions are available from most countries, but a complete eligible-country list and the availability of each payment method by country are not published. Use your real details; do not use a VPN, an address that is not yours, or any workaround to bypass a regional or payment check. If you believe your region is eligible but the order still fails, contact WIRED customer service.
Card-type restrictions
At least one user reported that WIRED's online checkout rejected a privacy-focused virtual card and a Visa gift card in 2025. WIRED's official FAQ does not confirm a blanket ban on any card type, and the exact reason is not documented. If your Coinepay card is declined and the causes above are ruled out, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card details are correct, and check with WIRED on whether your card type and region are accepted before trying again.
Managing or canceling your subscription
For direct subscriptions bought on the web, WIRED directs customers to My Account → Manage Subscription to manage or cancel, with account details under My Account. You can cancel at any time; WIRED states that cancellation refunds are not offered, access continues through the paid billing term, and there is no further charge after you cancel. For eligible new iOS-app subscribers WIRED describes a seven-day trial and advises turning off auto-renewal in Apple settings at least 24 hours before the trial ends, since no refund is available once the post-trial charge is made.
Because renewal can later be charged at a higher rate than the introductory price, set a reminder before the renewal date and keep your Coinepay card funded if you intend to continue. If you plan to stop, cancel before renewal.
A note for UK and Amazon readers
WIRED's FAQ now includes a "WIRED UK Website Closure" section telling UK digital subscribers to sign in at wired.com, while UK print subscriptions continue. It also notes that Amazon subscribers have limited access and that new Kindle issues are no longer available. If you fall into these groups, follow WIRED's current sign-in instructions before assuming a payment problem.
Keep your Coinepay card organized
You can manage everything from the Coinepay 24/7 self-service dashboard or the mobile app on iOS and Google Play. Dedicating one card to your media subscriptions makes it easier to track the WIRED charge and the later renewal. If anything goes wrong at checkout, reach the team through Coinepay support or Telegram.

FAQ
Which WIRED plan can I pay for with a Coinepay card?
On WIRED's web offer page you can choose plans such as Annual Digital Access, 4 Week Digital Access, Print + Digital or WIRED Digital All Access, then pay with your card at checkout. Prices vary by region, so confirm the current price and renewal rate on WIRED's official page.
Why was my Coinepay card declined at WIRED checkout?
Common causes are insufficient balance, a billing name or address that doesn't match your card, an unfinished 3-D Secure prompt, or a region or card-type check. Fix those and retry, and contact Coinepay support if you need to confirm your card details.
Does WIRED charge my card immediately?
WIRED says access starts immediately, your card is charged when the order is received, and a confirmation email normally arrives within 24 hours. A renewal-rate reminder is emailed before any automatic renewal.
How do I cancel a WIRED subscription paid with my card?
For direct web subscriptions, go to My Account then Manage Subscription to cancel anytime. WIRED does not offer cancellation refunds, but access continues through the paid term with no further charge. App Store subscriptions must be canceled through Apple.
Can I pay for WIRED in the iOS app with my Coinepay card?
The WIRED iOS app bills through your Apple account's payment method, not WIRED's web billing. To pay WIRED directly with your Coinepay card, use the web checkout at wired.com instead.
