Vonage sells two very different product lines: Vonage Business Communications (VBC), a subscription phone and unified-communications service, and the Vonage Communications APIs, which are usage-priced developer services for SMS, voice and more. They bill differently and accept different payment methods, so this guide covers both and shows where a Coinepay virtual card fits. Before you start, remember that whether any given merchant accepts a particular card is decided at checkout, not in advance.

What you need before you start

  • A verified Coinepay account. Register at the Coinepay sign-up page and finish identity verification (KYC) first, then create a virtual card in the Coinepay app (iOS or Google Play). Your card number, expiry and CVV appear instantly.
  • The card's billing address exactly as it is held in Coinepay. Vonage validates the billing details you enter against your card.
  • A Vonage account for the correct product and region.
  • Enough balance on the card to cover the charge plus any taxes or fees Vonage adds at checkout.

Important: which Vonage product are you paying for?

A card is only one of several accepted methods, and it depends on the product and country:

  • US VBC accepts Mastercard credit/debit, Visa credit/debit and American Express credit. Discover credit/debit is not accepted. ACH and paper check require contacting Vonage to set up.
  • UK VBC monthly service is paid by Direct Debit only. Cards are accepted only for hardware ordered at sign-up, not for the monthly subscription. If you are in the UK, a card will not cover your recurring VBC bill.
  • Communications APIs (prepaid) can be funded by credit card, PayPal or bank transfer; checks are not accepted. Postpaid API accounts default to bank transfer and must request card payment through an account manager.

Because these rules restrict card types, check that your Coinepay card meets the requirement before you buy. Contact Coinepay support if you need help confirming your card details.

Step-by-step: paying for US VBC

  1. Go to Vonage's unified-communications page and choose a plan. The US plan names are Mobile, Premium and Advanced. At the time of writing (October 2026), the standard one-line prices shown were US$19.99, $29.99 and $39.99 per line/month before taxes and fees, with annual-contract promotional prices of $13.99, $20.99 and $27.99 displayed separately. Prices and promotion dates change, so confirm the current figure on Vonage's official pricing page.
  2. Select Buy now to continue online, or request a sales conversation. The annual-plan promotional code is described as applied automatically at online checkout.
  3. Create or sign in to your Vonage account and complete the authenticated checkout. Enter your real name and the billing address registered to your Coinepay card.
  4. Enter your Coinepay card number, expiry and CVV from the Coinepay app.
  5. Complete any 3-D Secure confirmation if prompted, then submit. Review the order so you know the recurring charge and billing date.

Managing or changing your VBC card later

To add or update a card, sign in to the Admin Portal → Billing → Payment Info. One method must be set as default. Recurring service charges are billed in advance, and usage appears on the next invoice. Only Super Users, Account Administrators and Billing Administrators can manage payment information, and Vonage lists a $6 service charge for staff-assisted card or ACH changes with a US billing address, subject to its stated exceptions. If an automatic payment fails, Vonage leaves a balance due and directs you to update the method if Pay Now does not clear it.

Step-by-step: funding a Communications API account

The Communications APIs are generally usage-priced rather than sold as the three VBC tiers. Published starting rates at the time of writing (October 2026) included US$0.00860 per SMS and US$0.01538 per Voice API minute using a PSTN leg; destination- and account-specific charges vary, so check Vonage's API pricing page.

  1. Sign up for the API trial, which Vonage advertises without a credit card.
  2. When you are ready to pay, open Dashboard → Billing & Payments → Add Funds.
  3. Choose your payment method and the amount to add.
  4. Enter your Coinepay card details and select Confirm & Pay.

Troubleshooting a declined card

For API top-ups, Vonage documents the message "The top-up transaction didn't go through. Try another payment method." and lists common causes. US VBC may instead simply leave a balance due after a failed payment. Work through these:

Insufficient balance

Recurring charges are billed in advance and can include taxes and fees, so the authorised amount may be higher than the headline plan price. Top up your Coinepay card to cover the full total and retry.

Billing address mismatch

Enter the billing address and postcode exactly as they appear in your Coinepay profile. A mismatch is a frequent cause of declines. Vonage also notes that incorrect card details trigger failures, so double-check the number, expiry and CVV.

3-D Secure / issuer fraud screening

If a security confirmation is requested, complete it in the Coinepay app. Issuer fraud screening can block an unexpected charge; Vonage advises contacting your issuing bank for persistent declines.

Unsupported card type or region checks

Vonage's guidance notes that unsupported prepaid cards can be rejected, and US VBC does not accept Discover at all. VBC services and features are also not available in every location, and some flows (for example UK monthly billing by Direct Debit) do not take cards. If your card is declined repeatedly, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets Vonage's requirement, and confirm the product is offered in your country.

Cancellation and refunds

For US VBC, a Super User or Account Administrator can cancel by phone; online cancellation through Admin Portal → Account Details is available only to accounts originally opened via online self-service. Vonage states that monthly contracts have no early-termination fee but no refund on cancellation, while ending an annual contract early can incur fees up to the remaining contract price. Removing a service mid-cycle does not produce a prorated refund. API prepaid customers seeking a remaining-balance refund are directed to Vonage support. Because charges may be non-refundable, review the plan terms before you confirm.

Paying Vonage from abroad with Coinepay

If you work with Vonage services as a business buyer, Coinepay also offers Global Remittance and international-trade settlement, so you can pay overseas partners in their local currency with compliant transaction records. The exchange rate and any fees are shown clearly in the app before you confirm, and every transfer has status tracking. Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations, and Coinepay may request documents such as the purpose or source of funds. Note that Coinepay's virtual-asset-related services are not available to residents of mainland China, and some services are not available in every jurisdiction.

Keep your Coinepay app handy during checkout for your card details and any 3-D Secure prompt, and reach out to Coinepay support or on Telegram if a payment needs troubleshooting.
