Skillshare is an online learning community with thousands of classes in design, illustration, photography, business and more. This guide walks through subscribing to a Skillshare membership and paying with a Coinepay virtual card, where to find the right settings, and how to troubleshoot a card that gets declined at checkout.
Before you start: one important card restriction
Skillshare publishes its accepted payment methods in its Help Center. For membership enrollment it lists Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Apple Pay, Google Pay on Android, SEPA and PayPal, and availability depends on your location. Crucially, Skillshare states that it does not accept iDEAL, Maestro or prepaid cards for membership enrollment.
Because Skillshare restricts prepaid cards, you should confirm your card meets this requirement before you try to subscribe. Contact Coinepay support to check that your Coinepay virtual card is suitable for Skillshare's enrollment rules before you buy. You can reach the team from the support page or Telegram. Doing this first saves you a failed charge and a cancelled membership.
What you need
- A registered, KYC-verified Coinepay account. If you do not have one yet, register with Coinepay and complete identity verification first.
- An active Coinepay virtual card with its card number, expiry date and CVV visible in your dashboard or the Coinepay app (iOS / Android).
- Enough available balance on the card to cover the plan you choose, plus a little headroom for any currency conversion.
- Your real billing details — name, address and country — exactly as they appear on your Coinepay profile.
Skillshare says it serves over 180 countries and regions but is unavailable in a specific list of jurisdictions, including Belarus, China, Cuba, Eritrea, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Russia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria and Venezuela. Use your genuine location and billing information; do not try to work around regional availability.
Skillshare plans and pricing
Skillshare says prices vary by location and asks prospective buyers to create an account to see their regional price, so always confirm the figure on the official pricing page before you pay. At the time of writing (October 2026), the public U.S. web price for an Individual membership was $167.88 USD per year, shown as $13.99/month but charged annually after any trial — $13.99 is not a standalone monthly web option. Skillshare says month-to-month billing is available through its mobile app and is managed by the relevant app store.
Other options include:
- Gift Memberships — non-renewing 3-, 6- and 12-month options; purchase is currently limited to the United States.
- Skillshare for Teams — listed at $159 USD per user per year on an annual contract with no monthly option, for teams of 2 or more; teams of 30+ are directed to sales.
App Store listings in some regions show different annual prices, but each listing contains several differently priced products, so the exact price offered to a new user is not something to assume. Check the price shown to your account at checkout.
Step-by-step: subscribe and pay
- Open your Coinepay card details. In the Coinepay app or dashboard, select your virtual card and note the card number, expiry date and CVV. Confirm the available balance is enough for the plan.
- Create your Skillshare account. Go to Skillshare's official website and sign up with your email, or sign in if you already have an account.
- Choose a subscription. Pick the Individual membership (or the Teams plan if you are buying for an organization). Skillshare will display the regional price for your account and any trial offer.
- Enter your payment details. At the card payment step, type your Coinepay card number, expiry and CVV. Enter the cardholder name and billing address exactly as they appear on your Coinepay profile.
- Complete any 3-D Secure check. If prompted, approve the payment through the confirmation method configured for your Coinepay account.
- Confirm and review. Submit the order, then check your email for confirmation. If you started a trial, note the renewal date — unless you cancel before the trial ends, it converts to a paid subscription and your card is charged.
Skillshare processes web card payments through a Stripe billing portal. When you later update a card, you follow a Payment Settings link from Account Settings and complete the change in that portal.
Manage your subscription and payment method
For a web subscription, find everything under Account Settings → Membership & Payments. To change the card on file, use the Payment Settings link there and follow the email into the Stripe billing portal. If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, that purchase is managed by the store, not inside Skillshare.
To cancel a website subscription, go to Account Settings → Membership & Payments → Cancel membership; your paid access continues through the current billing period. Cancel Apple or Google subscriptions through that store — deleting the app does not cancel billing.
Refund and renewal policies to know
- After a 7-day trial, Skillshare allows a one-time refund if you contact Support within 48 hours of the charge and have not used the service since. Charges after trials of 14 days or longer, and renewals, are generally non-refundable.
- Skillshare notes possible EU and UK 14-day cooling-off rights, with the trial counting toward that period, and says a SEPA direct-debit payer can request a refund within eight weeks of the initial payment.
- Teams: unused seats are non-refundable, and contracts renew annually unless auto-renewal is disabled through your customer-success contact or [email protected].
Troubleshooting a declined card
If Skillshare won't accept your card, work through these common causes before retrying.
Prepaid-card restriction
Skillshare does not accept prepaid cards for enrollment. If your payment is refused on that basis, do not try to disguise the card type. Instead, contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets Skillshare's requirement, and ask about alternatives.
Insufficient balance
Annual plans charge the full year up front, which can be a large single amount. Make sure your Coinepay card holds enough to cover the regional price plus any conversion, then try again.
Billing address mismatch
The name and billing address you enter on Skillshare must match what is on file for your Coinepay card. A mismatched postcode or country is a frequent decline reason — re-check each field against your Coinepay profile.
3-D Secure not completed
If a verification prompt appears and is missed or times out, the charge fails. Ensure your Coinepay app notifications are enabled so you can approve the payment promptly, then resubmit.
Expired card or failed retry
Skillshare says an expired card can trigger a failed-card email; it retries the charge seven days after the first attempt and may temporarily cancel the membership if the details are not updated. If this happens, update your card under Account Settings → Membership & Payments via the Payment Settings link.
Region checks
Skillshare and its app stores apply regional availability rules. If a plan or payment method isn't offered, it may not be available in your location. Use your real country and billing details; don't attempt to bypass these checks.
If the card still won't go through after these steps, confirm the card status and balance in the Coinepay app, then reach out to Coinepay support for help on the card side and to Skillshare's Help Center for the merchant side.
