Roam Research is a networked note-taking and writing tool that many people use to build a connected knowledge graph. Its paid plans are billed online by card, which makes a Coinepay virtual card a convenient way to pay if you want a dedicated card number for your subscriptions. This guide walks through what you need, how to sign up and check out, and how to troubleshoot a declined payment.
What you need before you start
Have the following ready so checkout goes smoothly:
- A verified Coinepay account. You must register and complete identity verification (KYC) before you can use card services. Manage everything from the dashboard or the Coinepay app for iOS and Android.
- An active Coinepay virtual card with its card number, expiry date and CVV, which are issued instantly in the app.
- Enough balance on the card to cover the plan you pick, plus any tax or currency conversion applied at checkout.
- Your real billing details — the name and address linked to your Coinepay account. Use your genuine identity; do not enter fake addresses or try to work around regional checks.
Services related to virtual assets are not available to residents of mainland China, and some services are not available in every jurisdiction. Check the Coinepay app to confirm availability where you are.
Roam Research plans and pricing
Roam's public pricing page lists two paid tiers: Pro and Believer. For Pro, monthly and annual are billing choices rather than separate tiers.
At the time of writing (October 2026), the U.S. prices shown were $15/month or $165/year for Pro (about $13.75/month equivalent), and $500 for five years for Believer, charged immediately. Pro also advertises a 31-day free trial, charged afterward, limited to people who have never had a plan.
Prices, taxes and any currency conversion can vary by region, and local-currency totals for markets outside the U.S. are not something we can confirm here. Always check the current figures on roamresearch.com before you commit.
Step-by-step: sign up and pay
- Open your Coinepay app, go to your virtual card, and copy the card number, expiry date and CVV. Confirm the card has enough balance for the plan you want.
- Go to roamresearch.com and select Sign Up. Create an account with email and password, or with Google.
- Choose your plan — Pro (monthly or annual) or Believer. If you are starting the Pro free trial, note that card details are required up front; you will be charged when the 31-day trial ends unless you cancel first.
- At the billing step, Roam's checkout is handled through Stripe. Enter your Coinepay card number, expiry date and CVV.
- Enter the billing name and address that match your Coinepay account details exactly.
- If your bank or Coinepay prompts for 3-D Secure confirmation, approve it in the Coinepay app or via the verification method shown.
- Submit the payment and wait for the confirmation screen. Keep the receipt for your records.
Roam's help instructs customers to enter a credit card at checkout. Roam does not publish a current list confirming which card brands or card types (for example debit or prepaid) its checkout accepts. If you are unsure whether your card will be accepted, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the merchant's requirements before you buy.
Where to manage billing later
After you sign in, open the Billing page at roamresearch.com/#/billing, or navigate through Graphs & Settings → your Name/Email → Billing. Roam moved billing to this dedicated page in mid-2025, so older walkthroughs may show a different location.
Inside Billing, Manage Subscription opens the controls to add another card or change your plan. If you want to switch to a different Coinepay virtual card — for example, a separate card you keep just for software subscriptions — add it here.
Troubleshooting a declined card
If a payment does not go through, work through the most common causes below. A failed checkout on its own does not prove a country is excluded or that there is a fault with Roam.
Insufficient balance
Confirm your Coinepay card holds enough to cover the full charge, including any tax or conversion added at checkout. Believer is charged as a single $500 payment for five years, so it needs the full amount available at once. Top up in the app and try again.
Billing address mismatch
Stripe checks that the billing name and address you enter match what your card issuer has on file. Re-enter the exact details tied to your Coinepay account, with no typos in the postcode or country.
3-D Secure not completed
If an extra verification step appears and is not approved in time, the charge fails. Make sure you can receive the Coinepay app prompt or code, then retry and approve the confirmation promptly.
Merchant or region checks
Some online checkouts apply their own risk or region rules. Roam does not publish a confirmed country-by-country card-acceptance list, so if your card is declined while your balance and details are correct, contact Coinepay support to check whether the transaction was blocked on the card side, and review Roam's help resources on billing.
Reported error messages
Some Roam users have reported messages such as "Account Expired" and that a subscription payment "couldn't be charged," along with renewal buttons that did not respond. These reports do not identify a specific card-issuer reason. If you see one of these, check your Billing page, confirm the card on file is valid and funded, and add or re-enter your Coinepay card through Manage Subscription.
Cancellation, refunds and what happens to your notes
To cancel, go to Billing → Manage Subscription → Cancel Subscription. Cancelling during the free trial stops it without the subscription charge. According to Roam's help, after cancellation or non-renewal your notes remain readable and exportable, but you cannot add to or edit them without an active subscription. Account termination is a separate action, and Roam's terms state that server content is deleted 60 days after termination.
Roam's published terms say paid fees are non-refundable with no credit for partially used periods, though Roam may grant a refund case by case at its discretion. Note that parts of the terms are labelled June 2020 and still mention an older 14-day trial and older plan names; rely on the current pricing page for the 31-day trial and the Pro/Believer names.
Tips for managing subscriptions with Coinepay
- Keep a dedicated virtual card for recurring tools like Roam so renewals are easy to track in your Coinepay dashboard.
- Set a reminder before the 31-day Pro trial ends if you do not plan to continue, so you can cancel in time.
- Make sure your card has enough balance ahead of each renewal date to avoid a failed charge.
- If anything about card acceptance is unclear, reach out through support or Telegram before you subscribe.
With a verified account, a funded virtual card and your real billing details, paying for Roam Research is a straightforward checkout. Keep your plan, renewal date and balance in view from the Coinepay app, and you can manage the subscription on your own terms.

Why was my Coinepay card declined at Roam checkout?
The most common causes are insufficient balance, a billing address that doesn't match your Coinepay account, an incomplete 3-D Secure step, or a merchant-side check. Verify each, then contact Coinepay support if the charge still fails.

Pro advertises a 31-day free trial that requires card details up front and charges afterward. Cancelling during the trial via Billing → Manage Subscription → Cancel Subscription stops it without the subscription charge.
