Outbrain (now operating under the Teads brand after the February 2025 acquisition) is a native advertising platform where you pay for traffic driven to your content. This guide explains what you need to add a Coinepay virtual card to an Outbrain Amplify advertiser account, how the sign-up and checkout flow works, and how to troubleshoot the most common card-declined messages. It covers advertisers buying ads, not publishers receiving payments.
What you need before you start
Outbrain is a billing-as-you-spend advertising service, not a fixed monthly subscription. Instead of a plan price, you set a campaign budget and Outbrain charges your card as spend accrues. Before you begin, get the following ready:
- A verified Coinepay account. Register at the Coinepay sign-up page and complete identity verification (KYC) first, then create a virtual card in the Coinepay app so you have its number, expiry date and CVV ready.
- Your real billing details. Outbrain asks you to select a country at sign-up, and that country must match your card's billing-address country. Always use your genuine name and address.
- A budget that meets Outbrain's minimums. At the time of writing (October 2026) the self-serve guide states a $20-per-day minimum budget and a $600 minimum monthly campaign budget, charged on a cost-per-click (CPC) basis. These are spend minimums, not a subscription fee. Confirm current figures on Outbrain's official help pages.
One important point: Outbrain's help center specifies it accepts Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express credit cards. Acceptance of debit, prepaid or wallet-funded cards is not confirmed in its documentation. Coinepay does not publish the card type that applies to your particular card, so before you commit a budget, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets Outbrain's requirement.
Billing currency and card processing costs
Self-serve card accounts bill in a currency set by account location: EUR in EU countries, GBP in the UK, BRL in Brazil, and USD elsewhere. These are billing currencies, not regional price lists. Outbrain also applies a card processing cost around 3% of media spend (its pages note 4% for Brazil-based clients in one place and 3% for all card accounts in another), plus country surcharges such as 2.05% for the UK and 3% for France, Italy and Spain, with taxes additional. Because these depend on where your ads serve and your account location, check the figures that apply to you on Outbrain's pricing and billing pages before you launch.
Step 1: Create your Outbrain Amplify account
- Go to Outbrain's official advertiser site and start the Amplify registration.
- Enter your country, email and password. Choose the country that matches your Coinepay card's billing address.
- Self-serve Amplify requires a billing address in a supported region. If your country is not eligible, Outbrain says you may instead qualify for a managed account with a country-dependent monthly spend requirement. Do not try to work around a regional restriction with false details or a VPN.
Step 2: Build and submit your first campaign
- Set your campaign objective, then add creative (headlines and images) and your content URL.
- Set your bid (CPC), budget and schedule, keeping within the documented minimums.
- Choose your targeting, then submit the campaign.
- Add your payment details when prompted. Launched content goes through a stated 1–3-business-day review before it serves.
Step 3: Add your Coinepay virtual card
- In the Amplify dashboard, open the left-hand Payments tab. This tab also shows balance and invoice information.
- Click the pencil icon beside Payment Method to enter or edit a card.
- Type the Coinepay card number, expiry and CVV exactly as shown in your Coinepay app, and enter the billing address that matches your card. Save the details.
The default billing route is Automatic Billing: Outbrain charges accrued spend at thresholds during the month (its own example charges $200 after $230 of spend). Keep enough balance on your Coinepay card to cover these charges, because a failed charge disables the account. If you have been granted Prepayment Billing eligibility through an account manager or Customer Success, you load funds via Payments → Add Funds; documented prepayment methods include those credit cards, wire transfer, US ACH and EU SEPA (bank transfers are restricted to USD for ACH and EUR for SEPA).
Troubleshooting a declined card
Outbrain documents the message "We were unable to process your credit card" (asking you to check card and address details), along with "unexpected technical error" and "unexpected error" messages. None of these identify a specific bank-decline code, so work through the common causes below.
Billing address mismatch
This is the most frequent cause. The address, city, postal code and country on Outbrain must match the billing details registered to your Coinepay card, and the account country you chose at sign-up must match the card's country. Open the Coinepay app to confirm the exact details and re-enter them.
Insufficient balance or missing card
Outbrain lists an expired card, insufficient funds and no card on file among its causes. Top up your Coinepay card so it covers upcoming threshold charges, and make sure a valid card is saved before a charge falls due.
Wrong card details
Double-check the number, expiry and CVV. Copy them directly from the Coinepay app rather than typing from memory, and remove any spaces.
3-D Secure and bank restrictions
Some transactions trigger an extra verification step or are blocked by restrictions on online payments. Make sure notifications are enabled in your Coinepay app so you can approve any confirmation prompt, and complete it promptly.
Browser issues
Outbrain also points to browser data or extensions causing failures. Try clearing your cache, disabling ad-blocking extensions, or using a different browser, then re-enter the card.
Watch the update limit
Do not retry endlessly. Outbrain states that three or more card updates within seven days automatically disable the account, so fix the underlying cause before you re-enter card details. If the card appears correct and funded but still fails, contact Coinepay support to check the authorization, and contact Outbrain support about the account.
Managing spend, cancellation and refunds
Remember that previously served ads can still receive billable clicks after a budget caps or a campaign is paused, so monitor charges in the Payments tab. To close an account, Outbrain says to disable all campaigns, then request cancellation from Customer Success or select Payments → Delete my account; an open balance is charged at month-end, and an account with pending payments cannot yet be deleted. The Teads Amplify Terms effective October 13, 2026 allow customer termination on two business days' written notice or within 12 hours through the dashboard, with accrued fees still payable; refund requests are assessed case by case at the company's discretion.
Keep your Coinepay card ready
For ongoing advertising, Coinepay lets businesses issue a dedicated virtual card for each ad account and set a custom spending limit per card, which makes it easy to ring-fence your Outbrain budget from other tools. Manage your cards anytime from the 24/7 dashboard or the Coinepay app on iOS and Google Play. For questions about your card, reach Coinepay support or the Coinepay Telegram.
