News24 is one of South Africa's best-known news brands, and a paid digital subscription unlocks premium articles, analysis and bundle options that combine News24 with titles like The New York Times or The Wall Street Journal. If you'd rather keep your main bank card separate from recurring media bills, a Coinepay virtual card gives you a dedicated card number, expiry date and CVV you can use at the News24 web checkout. This guide walks through what you need, how to subscribe, and how to fix the most common reasons a card is declined.

Before you start: what you need

 • A verified Coinepay account. You'll need to register and complete identity verification (KYC) before you can create and use a card.
 • A funded Coinepay virtual card with its card number, expiry and CVV, available in the Coinepay dashboard or the iOS or Android app.
 • Your real billing details (name and address). News24 requires accurate billing information, and using your genuine identity keeps your subscription and any refund request valid.
 • A News24 profile. Note that free registration is not a subscription — you still need to choose a paid plan.

News24 lists Visa and Mastercard credit or debit cards, bank-account debit order, Apple in-app payment on iOS and Google in-app payment on Android as accepted methods; EFT is not available. If your plan is billed through Apple or Google rather than News24 directly, you would manage payment there instead of entering a card on the News24 website. To pay with your Coinepay card, use the News24 web checkout.

Choosing a News24 plan

News24 offers a standalone News24 digital subscription, plus two combination bundles:

 • Globetrotter bundle — News24 together with New York Times All Access, offered as a standing monthly or annual plan.
 • Powerbroker bundle — News24 together with Wall Street Journal All Access. Per News24's July 2026 FAQ, this bundle is available only to existing standard-price News24 subscribers, not to Globetrotter subscribers.

Prices vary by region and by the store you subscribe through, and plan line items are not always labelled with their billing period. Rather than rely on a figure here, check the current price shown on the official News24 subscription page (news24.com) or in the app store listing for your country before you confirm. News24's subscription items appear in the South African, US and UK app stores; whether the web checkout accepts customers or cards in every country is best confirmed directly with News24.

Step-by-step: subscribe and pay

 1. Create your Coinepay card. Sign in to the Coinepay app or dashboard, create a virtual card, and add funds. Keep the card number, expiry and CVV handy, and note the billing name and address on the account.
 2. Create or sign in to your News24 profile. On news24.com, select Sign in, then Sign up for FREE to make a profile using a listed social sign-in or an email and password. If you already have a profile, just sign in.
 3. Start the paid subscription. Select the red Subscribe button and choose your plan — the standalone News24 subscription or an available bundle.
 4. Enter card details. At the payment step, choose the card option and type your Coinepay card number, expiry date and CVV. Enter the billing name and address exactly as they appear on your Coinepay account.
 5. Complete any verification. If a 3-D Secure (bank authentication) prompt appears, approve it in your Coinepay app or follow the on-screen confirmation.
 6. Confirm and check access. After the payment succeeds, your premium access should activate. You can review the charge later under your invoices.

Managing your billing after you subscribe

To update an existing card, open My Profile → My News24 Subscription → Billing → Edit on the desktop or mobile website. The Invoices tab holds your past invoices. News24 says card-detail changes cannot be made inside its app, so use the website for this.

Keep in mind that News24 does not let you switch the method of an active subscription — for example, from card to debit order — without cancelling and resubscribing. If your subscription is billed through Apple or Google, manage the payment details with that store instead.

If a payment fails, News24 may retry the collection and can suspend access; once you update your details it can collect any outstanding amount. Keeping your Coinepay card funded and its details current avoids an invoice showing as “Due.”

Troubleshooting: card declined at checkout

If your Coinepay card is turned down, work through these common causes before trying again.

Insufficient balance

A virtual card can only pay if it holds enough for the full plan amount in the correct currency. Top up in the Coinepay app and allow for any currency conversion, then retry. News24 lists insufficient funds among the reasons collections fail.

Billing address or details mismatch

The name and billing address you type at checkout should match the details on your Coinepay account. News24 cites expired or incorrect details as a failure cause, so double-check the card number, expiry and CVV for typos too.

3-D Secure not completed

Many card payments require an extra authentication step. If the approval prompt times out or you miss it, the payment is declined. Make sure notifications are enabled, open the Coinepay app promptly, and approve the request, then restart the checkout.

Merchant region or card-type checks

News24 accepts Visa and Mastercard credit or debit cards on its web checkout, and its subscriptions are listed in selected regional stores. If a plan is only sold in a particular store or to existing subscribers, the web card flow may not offer it. Because a merchant can apply its own region or card-type rules, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets News24's requirements before you buy, and confirm plan availability for your country with News24.

Still not working?

Try a different supported browser or clear the checkout and start again. If the charge keeps failing, reach Coinepay via the support centre or Telegram to confirm the card is active and not blocked, and contact News24 for any account-side issue.

Cancellations and refunds

For a subscription billed directly by News24, select Cancel my subscription at the bottom of My News24 Subscription. Apple- or Google-billed subscriptions are cancelled through the respective store. Paid access normally runs to the end of the period you paid for, though an outstanding balance can end it sooner.

News24's FAQ states payments are non-refundable with no credit for partial periods; its fuller terms separately allow a written request for a prorated refund of the unused portion of a six- or twelve-month upfront subscription, subject to stated deductions and a possible cancellation penalty. A bundle such as the News24 and New York Times combination cannot be partly cancelled or downgraded directly to standard News24 — you would cancel and resubscribe for that change. Check the current terms on news24.com before you decide.

Once your plan is active, you can keep using the same Coinepay card for renewals, or create a separate virtual card for each subscription you run to keep your spending easy to track. Manage it all any time from the Coinepay dashboard and app.

FAQ

Can I pay for News24 with a Coinepay virtual card?

You can enter a virtual card's number, expiry and CVV at the News24 web checkout, which accepts Visa and Mastercard credit or debit cards. Make sure the card is funded and your billing details are accurate. Whether a specific card is accepted can depend on News24's own checks, so contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the requirement before you buy.

Should I subscribe on the News24 website or through an app?

To pay with a Coinepay card, use the News24 web checkout. Subscriptions bought through Apple or Google are billed by that store, and News24 says card-detail changes can't be made in its app — so for card payments and edits, use the desktop or mobile website.

How much does a News24 subscription cost?

Prices vary by region and by the store you subscribe through, and billing periods aren't always labelled. Check the current price on the official News24 subscription page or your regional app store listing before confirming, rather than relying on an older figure.

Why was my card declined at the News24 checkout?

Common causes are insufficient balance, a billing-name or address mismatch, incorrect or expired card details, an uncompleted 3-D Secure step, or a merchant region or plan-availability check. Fix the detail in question and retry, or contact Coinepay support if the card keeps failing.

How do I update or cancel my News24 payment?

On the website, go to My Profile → My News24 Subscription → Billing → Edit to change card details, and use Cancel my subscription at the bottom of My News24 Subscription to stop a directly billed plan. Apple- or Google-billed subscriptions are managed in that store.
