You can enter a Coinepay virtual card when signing up for MUBI on the web, provided MUBI accepts the card at checkout. This guide covers choosing a membership, completing payment with your real billing details, and checking common reasons a card payment might fail.

What you need before subscribing

  • A Coinepay account and virtual card. Register and complete identity verification before using Coinepay card services. Your virtual card provides a card number, expiry date and CVV, which you can find in the Coinepay app or self-service dashboard.
  • Enough available funds. Check the amount shown at MUBI checkout, including any applicable tax. If you select annual billing, be prepared for the annual payment rather than a monthly installment.
  • Your real account and billing details. Use an email address you can access and enter your genuine name and billing address where requested. The details should match those associated with your payment method.
  • A plan available in your location. Check MUBI’s official membership page and checkout for the options, price, tax and payment methods offered to you.

MUBI lists several card types and other payment methods, but payment-method availability varies by country. Its list does not establish whether any particular Coinepay card will be accepted. If you need to confirm a card requirement before buying, contact Coinepay support.

Choose the right MUBI membership

On MUBI’s US membership page, MUBI Classic is the streaming membership, with monthly and annual billing options. MUBI GO combines streaming with an eligible cinema ticket each week, subject to participating cinemas. Before choosing GO, check the GO app for partner cinemas near you: GO is listed in the UK, Ireland and Mexico, and only in specified cities in the US and Germany.

MUBI also advertises a Student offer for eligible students, with a discounted monthly subscription and a 30-day trial. Follow MUBI’s student eligibility process if you want that offer; do not assume the standard trial applies to it.

At the time of writing (October 2026), the US membership page showed Classic at $14.99 monthly or $119.88 in one annual payment, and GO at $19.99 monthly or $167.88 in one annual payment. The US student page showed $9.99 monthly after its advertised 30-day trial. These are US advertised prices, not a quote for your checkout. Prices vary by region, and location-dependent taxes may be added. Check MUBI’s official pricing page and your final checkout total before confirming.

How to sign up and pay on the MUBI website

  1. Prepare your card. Register with Coinepay if you have not already, complete the required identity verification, and open your virtual card in the Coinepay app or dashboard. Check its available balance and copy the card details carefully.
  2. Start on MUBI’s official website. Open MUBI’s membership page, choose an available membership and select monthly or annual billing if that choice is offered. Check that MUBI GO has a useful participating cinema nearby before selecting it for the ticket benefit.
  3. Create your MUBI account. Enter your email address and follow the account-creation prompts. If a trial appears, read its eligibility terms and note when billing begins. MUBI advertises a standard seven-day trial for eligible users; it requires a valid accepted payment method and starts billing when the trial ends unless you cancel beforehand.
  4. Enter the Coinepay card. At checkout, choose the available card-payment option and enter the card number, expiry date and CVV. Supply your real billing name and address if requested. Review the membership, billing interval, trial terms if applicable, and total before submitting.
  5. Complete any verification prompt. If checkout asks you to authenticate the transaction, follow the prompt shown. Do not repeatedly submit payment while a verification step is unfinished.
  6. Check the result. Look for MUBI’s confirmation and check your account under Settings → Subscription. If the page displays an error, verify whether a membership or charge was created before trying again.

These steps describe a direct web subscription. If you subscribe through Apple, Google, Fire TV or Roku instead, that platform handles its own billing and cancellation process. To enter the Coinepay card directly in MUBI’s checkout, use the direct web flow where available rather than assuming an app-store subscription will use the same payment settings.

What to do if your card is declined

A decline does not, by itself, identify the cause. MUBI cites expired payment methods, insufficient funds and other failures to settle as possible reasons for a failed payment. Work through the checks below, then ask the relevant support team to investigate if the error persists.

Insufficient balance or an unexpected total

Compare your Coinepay available balance with the amount MUBI is attempting to charge. An annual plan is billed in one payment, and location-dependent tax can make the checkout total higher than the advertised membership price. Check the final amount rather than relying on a price shown on another country’s page. For questions about funding or your card’s available balance, use the Coinepay app or contact Coinepay support.

Card details or billing address mismatch

Re-enter the number, expiry date and CVV exactly as shown on your active virtual card. Check that your real billing name, address and postal code are accurate wherever MUBI requests them. Do not substitute an address in another country to try to pass a payment or regional check. If you recently changed cards after an expiry, make sure you are not reusing the old details.

3-D Secure or another authentication prompt

If an authentication window or approval request appears, complete it before returning to checkout. If it closes, times out or never appears, avoid repeated rapid attempts. Check the status of the payment and ask Coinepay support whether an authentication or card-provider block needs attention. The exact verification flow depends on the transaction; do not assume every MUBI payment will show the same prompt.

Merchant region or payment-method checks

MUBI says accepted payment methods vary by country. Its listed methods include PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and several credit or debit card types, but that list is not a promise that a specific virtual card will pass checkout. Confirm that the membership and payment option are offered in your actual location. If checkout indicates a card-type or country requirement, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets that requirement before you buy. Do not use a false billing location or another person’s details.

For a persistent error, MUBI recommends checking the entered details, asking the card provider, trying another available payment method, or contacting MUBI support with a screenshot. When seeking help, include the error text and the approximate time of the attempt, but do not send your full card number or CVV in a support message.

Manage renewals, payment details and cancellation

For a direct MUBI subscription, open Settings → Subscription to review your subscription details and invoices. To replace a card, go to Payment Details → Update payment method. Check that the update has saved before the next charge; changing a payment method does not itself cancel a membership.

MUBI describes monthly billing as every 30 days and yearly billing as every 360 days, rather than on the same calendar date each month or year. That means two separate 30-day renewals can sometimes appear within one calendar month. Review the subscription and invoice dates before treating two charges as a duplicate.

You can cancel a direct web subscription in MUBI’s subscription settings. To avoid the next renewal, MUBI’s terms require cancellation one calendar day before it renews. Paid access continues through the paid period. Payments are generally nonrefundable, with no credit for a partly used period, although MUBI may consider cases individually and refunds required by law still apply. If you believe a MUBI charge is erroneous, contact MUBI at [email protected]. For an Apple, Google, Fire TV or Roku subscription, use the originating platform’s cancellation mechanism instead.

FAQ

Can I use a Coinepay virtual card for a MUBI trial?

You can enter its details at direct web checkout, but MUBI requires an accepted payment method and acceptance is not guaranteed. Eligible users may see a standard seven-day trial; eligible students may see a separate 30-day student trial. Check the terms shown at checkout.

Why was my MUBI payment declined?

Possible causes include insufficient funds, expired or mistyped card details, inaccurate billing information, an incomplete authentication step or a merchant payment check. Check the checkout total and error, then contact support if the cause remains unclear.

Where do I update my card for a direct MUBI subscription?

In your MUBI account, open Settings → Subscription, then select Payment Details → Update payment method. Subscriptions billed through Apple, Google, Fire TV or Roku are managed through the originating platform.

When should I cancel MUBI to avoid another charge?

For a direct subscription, MUBI’s terms require cancellation one calendar day before renewal. Cancel in your subscription settings; paid access remains through the paid period.
