Le Monde is one of France's leading daily newspapers, and its digital subscriptions give you unlimited articles across its apps and website. This guide walks through subscribing to Le Monde with a Coinepay virtual card: what to prepare, how the checkout works, which plan fits your situation, and what to do if your card is declined. Coinepay issues virtual cards with an instant card number, expiry date and CVV that you can use for online subscriptions like this one.

What you need before you start

Have these ready so the checkout goes smoothly:

  • A verified Coinepay account. Register and complete identity verification (KYC) first. You can create an account, then manage everything from the iOS or Android app or the 24/7 dashboard.
  • A Coinepay virtual card with its number, expiry and CVV, plus enough balance to cover the first charge and the recurring renewal.
  • Your real billing details. Use the name and address linked to your account exactly as they appear; mismatched billing data is a common reason online payments fail.
  • A Le Monde account, or your email to create one during checkout.

Le Monde's terms list Carte Bleue, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Eurocard and international Visa as accepted card types, and the subscription page also shows Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal. Availability can depend on the specific offer. Because Coinepay does not publish which network or issuing bank applies to a given card, and no merchant guarantees acceptance, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets these requirements before you buy.

Choose the right Le Monde plan

At the time of writing (October 2026), Le Monde's current terms took effect on 15 September 2026 and list these standard French digital tiers. Always confirm the live price on the official Le Monde subscription page, as prices and promotions vary by region.

PlanAccountsMonthlyYearly
Essentiel1€13.99€152.99
Duo2€18.99€208.99
Famille4€23.99€263.99
Essentiel étudiants et enseignants1€7.99€87.99
Essentiel + HBO Max (France only)1€17.99€215.99

A few important conditions from the terms:

  • The student and teacher rate requires proof of status within 15 days.
  • The HBO Max bundle requires residence in metropolitan France.
  • Outside France, the Offre internationale – Le Monde Édition anglaise gives English-edition access only. Its terms list €9.99/month; the offer page also showed introductory first-year prices, but which variant your country receives depends on its location-specific checkout, so check the price shown to you.
International English-edition eligibility is decided by your IP geolocation at checkout and excludes orders placed in France. Use your real location and real billing details; do not attempt to disguise where you are.

Step-by-step: subscribe and pay

  1. Open the offer. Go to the official Le Monde subscription site and select the plan and billing cycle (monthly or annual) you want.
  2. Create or sign in to your Le Monde account. For a direct online order you'll need an account; enter your email and set a password, or log in.
  3. Enter your contact and billing details. Provide the requested name and billing address. Match them to your Coinepay account details.
  4. Create your Coinepay virtual card. In the Coinepay app or dashboard, generate the card (or open an existing one) and copy the card number, expiry date and CVV. Make sure the balance covers the first payment plus renewals.
  5. Choose bank card as the payment method and enter the Coinepay card details. Online checkout does not accept cheques.
  6. Complete any 3-D Secure step. If the payment triggers an extra verification, approve it through the method Coinepay prompts you to use.
  7. Accept the terms and validate the order. Le Monde confirms an accepted order on-screen and by email. Keep that confirmation.

If you subscribe through the Le Monde app on a third-party app store instead, that purchase is billed and managed by the platform (Apple or Google), not by Le Monde's own checkout, so your card setup is handled in that store account.

If your card is declined: troubleshooting

Le Monde does not publish a public list of issuer decline codes, but its terms flag expired cards and payment incidents, and note that an unpaid order may be suspended and cancelled after up to 15 days. Work through these common causes:

Insufficient balance

Confirm your Coinepay balance covers the exact amount, including any currency conversion, and that it also covers the recurring renewal. Top up in the app and retry.

Billing address mismatch

The name and address on the Le Monde order must match what's on file for your card. Re-enter them carefully and remove typos or autofill errors.

3-D Secure not completed

European merchants often require strong customer authentication. If the verification screen times out or you miss the prompt, restart the payment and keep your Coinepay app open to approve it promptly.

Card details entered incorrectly

Double-check the card number, expiry and CVV. A single wrong digit will cause a decline.

Expired or changed card

If your virtual card expired or you replaced it, direct subscribers can update card or bank details in their Le Monde account, or contact Le Monde customer service. The exact billing-settings menu label can vary in the interface.

Merchant region or offer checks

The English-edition international offer is gated by IP geolocation at checkout and excludes France; the HBO Max bundle requires metropolitan France residence. If you don't meet the offer's eligibility, the correct fix is to choose a plan you qualify for, not to mask your location. If you suspect the issue is on the card side, contact Coinepay support and have the approximate time of the attempt ready.

Managing, renewing and cancelling

Your Le Monde subscription renews automatically each period, so keep enough balance on the Coinepay card before each renewal date to avoid an interrupted subscription. A rolling monthly plan can be cancelled at any time, normally effective at the end of the current paid period, online or through customer service. A prepaid fixed-term subscription is generally not cancellable mid-term and its lump-sum price is generally non-refundable, subject to applicable law. The 14-day withdrawal right excludes digital subscriptions once performance has begun with your agreement and express waiver, so read the checkout boxes carefully.

A note on how Coinepay cards work

Coinepay cards are managed entirely from the app and dashboard, where you can track spending and set up a dedicated card for a specific service. Card issuance and fund services are provided by licensed partner financial institutions. Some services are not available in every jurisdiction, and virtual-asset-related services are not available to residents of mainland China. If you're unsure whether your card suits Le Monde's accepted card types, confirm with support before subscribing.

FAQ

Which Le Monde plan should I pick if I'm outside France?

Outside France, the Offre internationale – Le Monde Édition anglaise gives English-edition access only. Eligibility is set by your IP geolocation at checkout and excludes orders placed in France. The price shown depends on your country's checkout, so review it before confirming.

Will my Coinepay virtual card be accepted by Le Monde?

Le Monde's terms accept Carte Bleue, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Eurocard and international Visa, depending on the offer. Because card acceptance is never guaranteed, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the requirement before you subscribe.

Why was my card declined at checkout?

Common causes are insufficient balance, a billing address that doesn't match your card, an incomplete 3-D Secure step, mistyped card details, or an expired card. Fix the detail and retry, or contact Coinepay support with the time of the attempt.

Can I get a refund if I cancel?

A monthly plan can be cancelled anytime, usually effective at the end of the paid period. A prepaid fixed-term plan is generally non-refundable mid-term, and the 14-day withdrawal right excludes digital subscriptions once service has begun with your express waiver.

How do I update my card if it expires?

Direct subscribers can update card or bank details in their Le Monde account on the Le Monde site, or contact Le Monde customer service. Keep enough balance on your Coinepay card before each renewal to avoid interruption.
