Databricks is a cloud data and AI platform billed through your chosen cloud (AWS, Google Cloud or Azure) and, for AWS pay-as-you-go, directly by Databricks. If you want to keep this spending separate from your personal accounts, a Coinepay virtual card gives you an instant card number, expiry date and CVV you can dedicate to the subscription. This guide walks through what you need, how to add the card at checkout, and what to do if a charge is declined.
Before you start: how Databricks billing works
Databricks does not sell a fixed monthly plan. Its paid purchasing options are Pay as you go and Committed Use Contracts, and your cost depends on usage measured in DBUs. New AWS accounts default to the Premium platform tier, with Enterprise as the higher tier. Remaining Standard workspaces on AWS and Google Cloud were scheduled for automatic upgrade to Premium on October 1, 2025.
At the time of writing (October 2026), the Databricks calculator shows AWS/Premium examples such as US$0.15 per DBU for Lakeflow Jobs Classic, US$0.40 per DBU for Lakeflow Jobs Serverless and US$0.55 per DBU for All-Purpose Compute. Classic-compute estimates exclude required AWS charges, and prices vary by cloud, tier and region. Azure Databricks is priced and billed by Microsoft, so do not assume its tiers or figures match AWS or Google Cloud. Always confirm current numbers on the official Databricks pricing page before you commit.
A few things worth knowing up front:
- Databricks Free Edition is a no-cost, usage-limited option that needs no payment method and cannot be upgraded in place to a paid account.
- The separate 14-day free trial offers eligibility for up to US$400 in credits and also requires no card to start.
- You only need a card once you move to direct pay-as-you-go billing on AWS.
What you need
- A verified Coinepay account. Register at Coinepay and complete identity verification (KYC) first; card services are not available until KYC is approved.
- A Coinepay virtual card created in the Coinepay dashboard or the mobile app (iOS / Android), with its number, expiry and CVV ready.
- Enough balance on the card to cover accruing fees, since direct pay-as-you-go charges are generally monthly but may occur more often as usage builds up.
- Your real billing name and address exactly as held by Coinepay.
- A Databricks account on your chosen cloud.
Databricks' published billing pages do not identify accepted card networks or confirm whether debit or prepaid cards are accepted. Because of that, check the Coinepay app for your card details and, if you are unsure, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card is suitable before you rely on it for billing.
Step by step: create the card and sign up
- Create your Coinepay virtual card. In the dashboard or app, issue a card and note the number, expiry date and CVV. You can create a dedicated card just for Databricks to keep this cost isolated.
- Choose your Databricks path. On AWS, express setup takes an email, account name and a selected location, then opens a serverless workspace without needing an existing cloud account. AWS Marketplace sign-up instead links an existing AWS account, after which Marketplace billing is handled in AWS.
- Google Cloud route. Sign-up requires an active Google Cloud billing account and goes through the Marketplace listing: select a billing account, review the terms, click Subscribe, then finish Databricks sign-up. In that model, charges flow through your Google Cloud billing account, not a card entered in Databricks.
- Start with the trial if you like. No card is needed to begin the 14-day trial, so you can explore before adding payment.
Step by step: add your card and pay (AWS direct billing)
Direct card entry applies to AWS pay-as-you-go. Use these steps:
- If you started with an AWS express trial, open the workspace and use Manage trial to add a credit card for direct Databricks billing (or link AWS for Marketplace billing).
- For ongoing settings, an account admin goes to Account console → Settings → Subscription & billing → Add payment method.
- Enter your Coinepay card number, expiry and CVV, and the billing name and address that match your Coinepay profile. Note that only one credit card can be stored at a time on an AWS account.
- Complete any 3-D Secure confirmation your card issuer prompts (for example an app approval or one-time code).
- Save. Direct pay-as-you-go charges are accompanied by an invoice; invoice or commitment billing is arranged by contacting Databricks.
Keep enough balance on the Coinepay card for the whole billing cycle. All usage through termination remains payable even if you later cancel, so top up before charges accrue.
Troubleshooting: card declined or payment won't complete
Insufficient balance
Because charges can land more than once a month as fees accrue, a card without enough available balance will be refused. Check your usage, top up the card in the Coinepay app, and retry.
Billing address mismatch
Enter the billing name and address exactly as they appear in Coinepay. A mismatch is a common cause of a verification failure. Correct the details and save again.
3-D Secure not completed
If you miss or dismiss the issuer's identity prompt, the charge can fail. Watch for a push notification or one-time code in the Coinepay app when you submit, and approve it promptly.
Bank or issuer flags the charge
One community user reported their bank rejected a Databricks charge as suspicious, after which payment failed and a warning email arrived. This is a single user report, not a general rule, but if a payment is blocked, check your Coinepay app for any security hold and contact Coinepay support if the card itself is restricting the transaction.
"You've already accepted this offer"
On AWS Marketplace, this message means that AWS account is already linked to another Databricks account. It is not a card decline, so changing cards will not fix it; use a different AWS account or review your existing link.
Checkout won't finish
Another user reported checkout not completing with two cards on different networks; the exact cause was not documented. If a card entry fails without a clear error, confirm the details, make sure 3-D Secure completed, and reach out to Coinepay support to check the card is active and suitable for recurring platform billing.
Region and eligibility checks
Databricks availability is cloud-, region- and feature-specific, and a displayed price does not mean the product is available in your region. Use is also subject to export controls and trade sanctions, and the Databricks agreement prohibits use where access is legally prohibited. Enter your real identity and billing details and do not try to work around a regional restriction. Coinepay likewise screens customers against sanctions lists and cannot be used to bypass a merchant's regional checks.
Cancelling and what happens next
For AWS pay-as-you-go, cancel at Account console → Settings → Manage your plan → Cancel plan. Cancelling only the AWS Marketplace subscription removes that payment method but does not cancel the Databricks plan. On Google Cloud, use the Marketplace order's Cancel purchase action; contracted customers contact their Databricks account team. Cancellation removes access to workspaces and data, and customer content tied to the subscription is deleted within 30 days, so export anything you need first. All usage up to termination remains payable, and there is no general prorated-refund entitlement for ordinary pay-as-you-go cancellation.

FAQ
Do I need a card to try Databricks?
No. Databricks Free Edition needs no payment method, and the separate 14-day free trial (with eligibility for up to US$400 in credits) also requires no card to start. You only add a card when you move to AWS direct pay-as-you-go billing.
Where do I add my Coinepay card in Databricks?
On AWS, an account admin goes to Account console → Settings → Subscription & billing → Add payment method, or uses Manage trial in an express-setup workspace. Only one credit card can be stored at a time.
Will my Coinepay virtual card definitely be accepted?
Databricks' billing pages do not list accepted card networks or confirm debit/prepaid acceptance, so we cannot promise it. Check your card details in the Coinepay app and contact Coinepay support to confirm your card is suitable before you rely on it.
What does "You've already accepted this offer" mean?
On AWS Marketplace it means that AWS account is already linked to another Databricks account. It is not a card decline, so switching cards won't help; use a different AWS account or review the existing link.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Cancellation removes access to workspaces and data, and customer content tied to the subscription is deleted within 30 days. Export anything you need first, and note that all usage up to termination remains payable.
