You can enter a Coinepay virtual card at Claude’s web checkout when subscribing to Max. Before you confirm, check the Max tier, the amount due, and whether your billing details meet Anthropic’s payment requirements. Card acceptance is decided at checkout, so having a virtual card does not guarantee that a payment will go through.

What you need before subscribing

  • A Claude account: Create one at claude.ai, or sign in to your existing Free or Pro account. Use your real identity and account details.
  • A Coinepay virtual card: Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. Once your card is available, its number, expiry date and CVV are shown in the Coinepay app or self-service dashboard.
  • Enough available funds: Check your available balance against the total shown at Claude checkout, including any applicable tax. Review any relevant card or funding details in the Coinepay app or ask Coinepay support before paying.
  • Your real billing address: Enter the address associated with your payment details, not a substitute address chosen to pass a region check.
  • An eligible location and card: Claude publishes a list of supported access locations, and Anthropic says a card’s billing address and country of origin must also be eligible for payment processing. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the relevant requirements before you buy. Do not use a different identity, address or location to bypass Claude’s rules.

Anthropic lists credit and debit cards as payment methods for web-purchased Max subscriptions. It does not offer ACH or invoice terms for Max, and says it does not accept PayPal or Venmo. This guide covers checkout on the Claude website; an iOS or Android in-app purchase is billed through Apple or Google instead.

Choose between Max 5x and Max 20x

Claude’s individual plans are Free, Pro, Max 5x and Max 20x. The two Max tiers are monthly-only; Team and Enterprise are separate organizational plans. At the time of writing (October 2026), Anthropic listed US-dollar web prices of $100 per month for Max 5x and $200 per month for Max 20x. Prices and the payable amount can vary by location and tax. Check Claude’s official pricing page and your checkout total before confirming. Mobile-app prices may differ from web prices.

Choose the tier that fits your intended use rather than assuming that “Max” is a single plan. Anthropic has also announced monthly Claude Platform API credits associated with Max 5x and Max 20x when a Console organization is linked. Those credits are separate from, and do not reduce, the Max subscription charge at checkout.

Subscribe to Claude Max on the web

If you are new to Claude

  1. Go to claude.ai and create your account using your real details.
  2. During onboarding, select Max and choose either Max 5x or Max 20x.
  3. Review the monthly charge and any tax shown at checkout. Make sure the selected tier is the one you want.
  4. Open your Coinepay app or dashboard and retrieve your virtual card number, expiry date and CVV. Enter them in Claude’s payment form along with your real billing details.
  5. Complete any payment verification requested during checkout, then confirm the subscription. Check Claude’s billing page to verify the result rather than repeatedly submitting the form if the outcome is unclear.

If you already use Free or Pro

  1. Sign in to claude.ai and open Settings → Billing → Upgrade to Max.
  2. Select Max 5x or Max 20x and review the amount presented. If you are upgrading from Free, enter your Coinepay card and billing information when prompted.
  3. Complete any requested verification and confirm the upgrade.

If you upgrade from Pro to Max on the web, Anthropic says the upgrade takes effect immediately and restarts your billing cycle. The charge for a Max cycle is reduced by a prorated credit for unused Pro time. Read the actual upgrade total before confirming; it may differ from the standard monthly price.

Check your card, invoices and renewal

For a web subscription, go to Settings → Billing in Claude to see the current card and invoices. Use Update beside the card when you need to change your payment details. Anthropic also emails invoices. Keep the card details current and review your available funds before the next monthly charge.

If you subscribed inside the Claude iOS or Android app, manage the payment method and receipts through the Apple or Google account that billed you. Changing a card on Claude’s web billing page is not the way to change an app-store purchase’s payment method.

Why was my Claude Max card payment declined?

A decline does not identify one definite cause. Anthropic lists the following possibilities for failed card payments; work through the relevant checks before trying again.

Possible causeWhat to check
Insufficient available fundsCompare the available amount shown in Coinepay with Claude’s full checkout total, including tax. If you are upgrading from Pro, check the adjusted amount displayed for that upgrade. Review funding options in the Coinepay app if needed.
Billing address mismatchCheck for mistakes in the name, address and postal code entered at checkout. Use your real billing details associated with the card; do not enter an invented address.
Incomplete 3-D Secure verificationFinish any authentication step presented during checkout. If it closes, times out or fails, check your Coinepay app or dashboard for relevant information and contact support if you cannot complete it.
Merchant region checksConfirm that your location is on Claude’s current supported-access list. Anthropic also checks whether the billing-address country and card-origin country are eligible. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before you buy; changing your stated location is not a remedy.
Unsupported payment method or temporary issueUse the web checkout’s card payment option, check the details you entered and, if appropriate, try again later. Anthropic does not receive detailed issuer decline reasons; contact Coinepay support about a card-side issue, or Claude support about its checkout.

If you see a general “declined” or “insufficient” message despite funds appearing available, do not assume the message proves that balance is the only issue. Check the total, billing details and verification steps, then ask the appropriate support team to investigate. Never share your CVV or a one-time authentication code with someone claiming they can manually approve your payment.

Cancel Max or ask about a refund

To cancel a web or desktop Max subscription, open Settings → Billing → Cancel. Anthropic says to cancel at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid the next charge; paid access normally continues until the end of the paid period. For an in-app subscription, use Billing → Manage subscription in the app or manage it through your Apple or Google account.

Anthropic says subscription payments are generally non-refundable unless its consumer terms or applicable law provide otherwise. For an eligible web refund request, use Get help → Send us a message → Claude Refund Request. Regional rights may differ: Anthropic says EEA and UK customers may receive a usage-prorated refund within 14 days of purchase, while its terms specify a seven-day cancellation right for residents of Brazil, Mexico, South Korea and Taiwan. Apple reviews App Store refund requests; Anthropic Support checks eligibility for Android purchases. Requesting an Apple refund does not itself cancel the subscription.

For questions about your Coinepay card, available funds or a card-side payment issue, use the Coinepay support page. For plan selection, Claude checkout, invoices or subscription status, use Claude’s own account settings and support.

How do I change the card for a Claude Max subscription?
