ChatGPT Pro is OpenAI's top individual tier, sold on a monthly basis and often purchased on the web. If you want to pay for it with a Coinepay virtual card, this guide walks through what you need, how the sign-up and checkout flow works, and what to do when a payment is declined. Coinepay issues virtual cards with an instant card number, expiry date and CVV that you can use for AI subscriptions and other online purchases, all managed from the dashboard or the mobile app.

Before you start

A few things need to be in place before you reach the ChatGPT checkout:

  • A verified Coinepay account. Register and complete identity verification (KYC) first, since card services require it. You can create an account and finish verification in the Coinepay dashboard or app (iOS / Android).
  • A funded virtual card. Create a virtual card and load enough to cover the Pro tier you plan to buy. At the time of writing (October 2026), OpenAI's published U.S. prices are Pro 100 at US$100/month, Pro 200 at US$200/month and Pro 500 at US$500/month, but local prices and taxes differ by region — always confirm the amount on the official ChatGPT pricing page at checkout.
  • Your real billing details. Use the name and billing address tied to your identity. ChatGPT's bank and fraud checks compare these against your card, so accurate details reduce declines.
  • A supported region. OpenAI requires a supported country and a card issued by a bank in a supported region. If you are unsure whether your card meets a region requirement, contact Coinepay support to confirm before you buy. Never use fake addresses or try to bypass regional checks.
Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of comprehensively sanctioned jurisdictions, and some services are not available in every jurisdiction.

Create and fund your Coinepay virtual card

  1. Sign in to the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app.
  2. Open the cards section and create a new virtual card. Your card number, expiry date and CVV are shown instantly.
  3. Add funds to the card so the balance comfortably covers one month of your chosen Pro tier plus any local tax.
  4. Note the exact billing address Coinepay has on file for the card — you will enter it at the ChatGPT checkout.

Card issuance and fund services are provided by licensed partner financial institutions. For card-specific limits, supported currencies and features, check the Coinepay app or ask support — those details can vary.

Subscribe to ChatGPT Pro step by step

OpenAI recommends buying Pro on the web and managing it there. Pro is billed monthly only — there is no annual plan or multi-month prepayment.

  1. Go to chatgpt.com and sign in to your existing account, or create one. You can change plans from an account you already use.
  2. Open the ChatGPT pricing page and choose a Pro tier (Pro 100, Pro 200 or Pro 500). Prices shown update to your region's currency.
  3. On the checkout screen, select card as the payment method and enter your Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date and CVV.
  4. Enter the billing name and address exactly as held by Coinepay for that card.
  5. Review the total — the currency and any tax are shown here — and confirm. If your bank prompts a 3-D Secure step, approve it to finish.

Depending on your location and currency, the checkout may list other options such as a ChatGPT wallet balance for eligible U.S. USD purchases, or local methods in certain countries. Those don't change how you pay with a card. Note that India's UPI is listed for the Go and Plus plans, not for Pro.

Avoid buying through the app stores by mistake

If you subscribe inside the ChatGPT iOS or Android app, the purchase is billed and managed by the Apple App Store or Google Play rather than ChatGPT web billing — and your Coinepay card would only be charged if it is set as your store payment method. Buying on a second platform can also create a duplicate subscription. To keep card billing simple and manageable in one place, subscribe on the web.

Manage your subscription and payment method

For web-purchased personal plans, open the account menu and go to Settings → Billing to update your card, view billing history and see your current plan. Available plan changes appear under Settings → My Plan. To cancel a web subscription, use Settings → Billing → Cancel plan → Cancel; cancel at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid the next charge, and paid access normally continues through the current period. App Store or Google Play purchases must be cancelled in the corresponding store.

Cancelling stops future renewals but does not automatically refund past charges, which are generally non-refundable. A discretionary refund for an unused individual purchase may be available if requested within seven days, subject to eligibility; OpenAI notes additional rights for EU, UK and Turkey residents who cancel within 14 days, and separate rules for South Korean residents. Request web or Google Play refunds through OpenAI Support while signed in to the charged account, and Apple-purchase refunds from Apple.

Troubleshooting a declined card

OpenAI's checkout documents errors such as "authentication required," "card may be invalid or authentication may be needed," and "3D Secure attempt failed." Listed causes include incorrect card or billing details, insufficient funds, a bank block, failed authentication, and an unsupported location or card-issuing region. Work through these in order:

Insufficient balance

Confirm your Coinepay card holds enough for the full monthly charge plus local tax. Top up in the app and retry. Remember the amount may be higher than the published U.S. price once your currency and tax are applied.

Billing address or card detail mismatch

Re-enter the card number, expiry and CVV carefully, and make sure the billing name and address match exactly what Coinepay has on file. Small differences in address or postcode are a common decline cause.

3-D Secure / authentication required

If you see an authentication or "3D Secure attempt failed" message, complete the verification prompt from Coinepay (in the app or dashboard) and retry promptly. Check your Coinepay notifications in case an approval is waiting.

Region checks

A purchase needs a supported region and a card issued in a supported region; payment from an unsupported country can lead to a blocked or suspended account. If a decline mentions location or region, do not try to work around it with a VPN or false details. Instead, confirm with Coinepay support that your card is suitable for this purchase.

If the card still fails after these checks, contact Coinepay support through the help channel or Telegram so they can look into card-side issues, and contact OpenAI Support for checkout-side questions.

A note on Pro 200 allowances

As checked in October 2026, new Pro 200 subscriptions are available again after an earlier pause, and new subscribers generally receive a lower included usage allowance than the previous Pro 200 allowance. The monthly price remains US$200. Review the current terms on OpenAI's official Pro tiers help page before subscribing so you know what your plan includes.

FAQ

Can I use a Coinepay virtual card to pay for ChatGPT Pro?

You can enter a Coinepay virtual card at the ChatGPT web checkout like any other card, using the card number, expiry and CVV from your dashboard. OpenAI requires a supported region and a card issued in a supported region, so if you are unsure your card qualifies, contact Coinepay support before buying. Whether a specific merchant accepts a given card is never guaranteed.

Should I subscribe on the web or in the ChatGPT app?

Subscribe on the web (chatgpt.com) so billing and your card are managed in one place under Settings → Billing. In-app purchases on iOS or Android are billed by the Apple App Store or Google Play instead, and buying on a second platform can create a duplicate subscription.

Why was my card declined at the ChatGPT checkout?

Common causes OpenAI lists are incorrect card or billing details, insufficient funds, a bank block, failed 3-D Secure authentication, or an unsupported location or card-issuing region. Check your Coinepay balance, confirm the billing address matches your card, and complete any authentication prompt. Never use a VPN or false details to bypass region checks.

How much does ChatGPT Pro cost with a virtual card?

At the time of writing (October 2026), OpenAI's published U.S. prices are US$100/month for Pro 100, US$200 for Pro 200 and US$500 for Pro 500. Local prices and taxes vary, so confirm the exact amount in your currency on the official ChatGPT pricing page at checkout and keep that balance on your card.

How do I cancel or get a refund for ChatGPT Pro?

Cancel a web subscription under Settings → Billing → Cancel plan → Cancel, at least 24 hours before renewal; app-store purchases are cancelled in the store. Charges are generally non-refundable, though a discretionary refund for an unused purchase may be available if requested within seven days, with extra rights for EU, UK, Turkey and South Korean residents.
